@LouiseAllard18
I did 120 hour weeks
No med school debt
Free accommodation
Mess with Sky TV and snacks
Separate dining room
House in London 65k
I'm 💯 behind my colleagues
Why not back the future of the NHS, instead of dumping on them in public?
Just a thought
I'm voting for industrial action
I'm not worth 1/3 less than I was in 2008
I'm voting to stop my colleagues from retiring early or just leaving the country
I'm voting to save the NHS from Tory privatisation
I'm voting to get waiting lists down
@ShazBMA
@BMA_Consultants
@MPritchardUK
Bit rich coming from an MP! I'm having my bathroom done at the moment and not a single patient of mine volunteered to pay for it. Imagine that..🤨
The GMC are asking the public whether they're OK with people doing a 2 year course should be used as substitutes for doctors
It takes a minimum of 10 years to become a GP and 13 to become a consultant....
Today, we’ve launched our public consultation about the rules, standards and guidance needed to implement the regulation of physician associates (PAs) and anaesthesia associates (AAs).
Legislation has been passed for us to regulate PAs and AAs. We’re now consulting on proposals…
On strike today because we want the gvt to see that 15 years of imposed pay cuts is driving people out of the profession
Waiting lists have been rising for over a decade
We have 9000 medical vacancies
EDs are overcrowded
They are destroying the NHS on purpose
@DPJHodges
Cheated on his wife and left her and their 3 kids
Inaction as SoS killed thousands
Dodgy PPE contracts
Broke his own lockdown rules
A real prince
@NHSDDICB
They are NOT medically trained
You need to go to medical school and get your MBBS before you can call yourself medically trained
Stop conning the public
A 2 year degree course with an exam with a 100% pass rate is not medical training
@pritipatel
@BorisJohnson
I'm ashamed to have the same surname as you. My dad came from East Africa and became a newsagent too but, unlike the pair of you, didn't become a sellout and patsy for xenophobics pulling the ladder up after themselves
@ColinaCoco
PAs are not HCPs
Come and do GEM and do it right
Unregulated and their scope creep is a danger to patients
I don't recognise the training and wouldn't have them in my ED apart from as scribes and low complexity procedures
ACPs on the other hand add massive value to the team
@Dr_BellaR
I've just watched a YouTube video of a UK trained FY3 comparing payslips between Oz and here
She didn't like it here and she did in fact "sod off" elsewhere
How many just like her?
Surely its cheaper to pay JDs properly and retain them? I need them to care for me when I'm old
@noconne
@srturaga
What an awful take on this issue
Doctors make massive sacrifices along the way accruing huge debts and then suffering accelerating pay erosion
You forget that consultant pay is eroding at a far quicker rate
@DacreJane
I have no PA
No desk
No office
We hot desk on a first come, first served basis
Our pay has fallen by a third in the last 15 years
And now I pay to go work because of the AA issue
I'm losing friends and colleagues to other countries
Other than that, it's great
@AcmeDR
Old fart here: you need to get paid for your time. Vocation it may be, but it's also a job and we are all being exploited. Claps don't pay the rent
@Doctors_Vote
If you're expected to be available to work, then you are de facto on call and should be paid for it
We had this when I was an SHO where we carried a bleep for 1 week on our nights off and were expected to be available to work
The BMA threatened to sue
We got large cheques
@RidgeOnSunday
As a practising doctor, I am becoming increasingly disillusioned by some of the statements made by Mr Streeting and Sir Keir. They clearly don't understand that working WITH doctors, instead of alienating them, is the key to sorting out the mess that the Tories have made
@DrHoenderkamp
Can we just agree that many , many GPs have worked themselves into the ground combining F2F with remote consulting? There are some local issues , but the vast majority have worked themselves into the ground. And I'm an ED consultant,before you ask
@mmamas1973
The GMC are unfit regulators and we that fund them (including their private healthcare plans) must see that they answer to the public for endangering them
@DrNeenaJha
Wholly agree. Cathryn has failed to acknowledge her role in this debacle and misrepresentation of data.
I think sanctions are warranted, not a happy escape to further prosperity
@DrEilidhMaria
Just insulted 55000 doctors with just one sentence
Over promoted backbencher with a prior track record of a massive COI,who is in way over her head
@UMAPsUK
The undergraduate degree has zero equivalence with medicine
A false equivalence
Medical training is rigorous and strictly validated
The PA degree is a wild west free unvalidated free for all with an exit exam which is so easy, it is embarrassing
@Thornton_health
Another ridiculous take on this issue
Yes, we are leaders
But we are tired of being trodden on by a monopoly employer which has corrupted the DRBB & imposed 15 years of real terms pay cuts on us
We're not demeaning ourselves
We're standing up for ourselves
Together
Jog on
@DrUmeshPrabhu
Have you bothered to actually gauge the widespread concerns expressed by the profession, the media and the BMA, and the scope creep and lack of regulation?
Training bottlenecks ?
ARRS?
Unemployed GPs?
@dr_merritt
Then why are there training bottlenecks for JDs?
Anyone who fits the criteria for HST should get a training number
There is no need for PAs unless we need a scribe or help with low complexity tasks
@Parody_RCGP
Years of experience as a doctor?
Want to work in PC ?
Nah!
Unvalidated 2 year course with a 💯 pass rate after a degree in zoology?
COME ON IN!
@mjv__1
Terribly sorry to hear this, Michaela
I'm the son of 2 factory workers and have never had to worry about this
I'll be encouraging all my colleagues to advocate for JDs and end this PA/AA experiment
@KayBurley
Kay,
We are not asking for a pay rise. We are asking for our pay to be restored to 2008 levels. It is the gvt who have inflicted 15 years of real terms pay cuts on us who are at fault
@Xeon4f145d96s1
1. PA is by definition NOT a profession
2. Doctors take responsibility, not avoid it ,because we are trained to
3. The profession is waking up to this insidious threat to patient safety and the training of REAL doctors
4. PAs SHOULD fear the BMA.
@ShaunLintern
The profession is slowly waking up and realising we are NOT going to be taken for mugs
Infantilised at work
Undermined by our own RCs and regulatory body
Gaslit by an NHS hating gvt
Gongchasers selling the profession down the rivet
@thomaswoodcock
@TheBMA
We've got doctors stuck in artifical bottlenecks
Doctors losing heart and leaving
And some consultants are selling them down the river to train up unqualified people
Looked at some doctor rotas, lately?
@ClareGerada
@DeanEggitt
@TheBMA
@BMA_GP
I don't have a single PA in our ED and haven't met a single one in my hospital
Nor do I think they should practise independently. That is for GPs and consultants
We love our multidisciplinary team , but the buck stops with doctors. Our ACPs are well supervised
@Xeon4f145d96s1
My understanding from RCEM is that they haven't decided on the PA scope
As a fellow, I would expect a say in the matter
If not, I would be considering whether I wanted to continue paying my subscription
@ERunswickBMA
@RCollEM
@RCEMpresident
Do we need to comment ?
As a RCEM Fellow , examiner and trainer, I am concerned with the perception that any non doctor shares equivalency with our HSTs
@timricketts_
@ShaunLintern
In my defence , I once staged a one man sit in when medical staffing told me I'd have to wait until next month for my salary
I got the money that day
How is a doctor's assistant being offered twice the pay of the doctor's?
To the public: do you want real doctors treating you or their unqualified and unregulated assistants who have a fraction of the training and are often paid more?
How is this acceptable
@BucksHealthcare
?
Doctors are NOT worth half a Physician Associate.
FY1s, this is how they value you. Look how they value your replacements.
STRIKE.
@NickTriggle
A dreadful article
Sloppily written and omitting key facts
Then again, the organisation you work for doesn't appear to have any standards, does it?
That's my parents arriving in the UK in 1967. Came here with nowt and had to put up with some really poisonous attitudes.
Worked hard all their lives including working 7 days a week, glass ceilings, racism & being treated as 2nd class citizens.
They were indomitable
Watching
#Defiance
makes me so sad & angry for what my parents had to endure so they could give us a better life. I'm forever grateful for their tenacity.
@BucksHealthcare
So why pay people who can't initiate treatment, prescribe or order radiological tests more than F1 and F2s and the same as some registrars?
By that logic you must pay medical students £60 per hour during IA
