โฉ tough decision to strike. Done at mumโs, who needs cheering up given her limited time left. She served Nye Bevan when working in Victoria & has had fabulous care from the NHS over her 87 years. A rare but treasured smile.
I met people from all walks of life today passionately united in campaigning to save our NHS. Junior doctors have taken the unprecedented & tough decision to strike for 72 hours from Monday. It is better to lose junior doctors for 72 hours than to lose them forever.
Thank you to the thousands of people who came out to the
#SOSNHSDEMO
today! Your presence sent a message to the govt that we will no longer tolerate the destruction of our NHS. Here are some of my fav photos from the march.

Politicians play politics. Doctors treat patients. Daily harm in health care from not enough beds or staff - fact. HMG refused to implement independent advice on pay last year for juniors. Doctors do whatever it takes to deliver care; political choice to fund or not fund - fact.
I urge the BMA to end its strikes immediately.
They only harm patients and put immense pressure on other NHS colleagues who must cover extra work, on top of their own.
These fair, independently recommended pay rises, which start this month, are final ๐
So
@SteveBarclay
stating offer to
@BMA_JuniorDocs
was same as to other staff - completely forgetting that they only gave 2% last year when the independent pay body said 4.5%, & spent 3 weeks with no offer for 22-23 at all. Could talk about lost pay & how to keep Drs, but wonโt.
Biggest frontline issue - being valued. For
@BMA_JuniorDocs
@BMA_Consultants
@BMA_SAS
thatโs acknowledging pay erosion & commitment to pay restoration. A pay dispute is about pay! Expertise has a cost; more being spent not settling. Bonkers - & stop bashing GPs; theyโre pivotal!
Doctors lead teams. Every team member has a role & deserves courtesy & respect, free from abuse or bullying. Thatโs cleaners, porters. HCSWs, PAs & AAs, colleagues & peers. None must be put in an unsafe position working unsupervised above agreed competencies or mislead patients.
Extremely disappointing that Peers have tonight waved through legislation that will blur the lines between PAs and doctors, with potentially dangerous consequences for patients.
We thank Peers who urged Government to heed the warnings of the medical profession.
The cost of everything has gone up. So has the cost of a doctor. Too many doctors are leaving for this not to be recognised. Too many patients are suffering EVERY day for this not to be afforded
@10DowningStreet
. This needs to be resolved ASAP please.
At least
@guardian
has some perspective on what should be top of today's news agenda - the longest strike action in NHS history. Time for the government to have serious discussions with
@TheBMA
on
#payrestoration
not further sub inflationary pay cuts
How double pay rise for senior doctors is backfiring on government - BBC. Sub-inflation pay is an effective PAY CUT โฆ
@NickTriggle
โฉ. The need to utilise & value the unique expertise of doctors & get the NHS working again is recognised all round.
The time of learned helplessness & victimisation must end; it devalues, demotivates & destabilises the next generation of doctors our patients so desperately need. These are skilled professionals; threatening them feels very much like bullying. Essential to be in a union
@TheBMA
Unacceptable behaviour from
@NHSLanarkshire
I am aware that this is being investigated by
@BMAScotland
.
Threatening doctors is going to stop now. Weโve had enough of the gaslighting, the infantilising and the guilt tripping.
Treat us like highly qualified professionals.
Huge number of cancellations & safety issues on non-strike days, so thanks
@10DowningStreet
for making extra funding available so NO appointments are EVER cancelled & ensuring safe staffing all year. If youโre so committed on strike days, you must mean non-strike days as well?
900,000 appointments have been cancelled due to strike action this year.
Weโre considering introducing minimum service levels to keep the public safe during periods of strike action.
Essential services must be available to those that need them.
