Passing gas safely since 1996. Recipient of 1 / 1,164,729th share of George Cross (& some clapping). Adherent to the BMA Consultants’ Rate Card. Grimpeur. 🦀
Hey
@bbcnickrobinson
, look at the graph below; at least 50% of the long waiting lists arose BEFORE the pandemic & relate to
@Conservatives
’ austerity underfunding the NHS. Why did you fail to mention this?
#r4today
.
@SteveBarclay
I’m delighted to hear from you in your capacity as SoS for Health that I’ll be getting a tax free pension of £73k p.a. As a former solicitor you’re no doubt aware that a verbal contract can be legally binding… or would you like to publicly retract your falsehood?
Question for
@SteveBarclay
: MPs have salaries of £86,584 plus generous expenses & pension, & subsidised food & drink at work - why do so many of you feel the need to have second / third jobs?
@thetimes
@TheBMA
@MattHancock
Hi Matt. Consultant Anaesthetist here, doing resident oncall tonight again. Actually you CAN thank me enough: reverse the decade of sub-inflation pay, return the entirety of my pension to ‘95 scheme & remove AA limit for DB pensions.

Hi, Lance. NHS Consultant Anaesthetist here (we’re the ones that know how to operate ventilators/CPAP machines & deal with critical illness). Worked through the 1st surge, incl. resident night shifts despite my age. VERY happy to sit this second wave out at home for 80% salary.
@LozzaFox
How would you feel about an endotracheal tube, urinary catheter, arterial line, central line, prone ventilation or ECMO? My colleagues & I Just want to be clear in case it should come to that.
@sophielouisecc
I’d have been more than happy to take the 20% pay cut & swap places with those enjoying the fabulous 2020 spring weather, instead of working on the NHS frontline in out of date PPE.
Maths question for
@RishiSunak
:
If med students incur interest charges of RPI + 3% on student debt, & once qualified their pay falls behind CPI by 25% over 12 yrs; how much will Australian tax payers save on the cost of training drs to staff their hospitals?
#JuniorDoctorsStike
@MattHancock
As SoS for Health, how would you feel if drs went ahead with an operation based on a consent form signed 3yrs ago when the patient had not been appropriately counselled and it subsequently turned out their signature had been forged? That is what you are attempting to do!
@mancunianmedic
I’m delighted neither of my daughters are studying / planning on studying medicine. They’re both smart (eldest reading chemistry at Oxford) & would have been an asset to the NHS, but their welfare must come first & currently the NHS is an “abusive” employer.
@EmergencyBod
@DrNeenaJha
This ⬇️ is where my GP wife has gone; now running her own private aesthetic clinic at the bottom of our garden. After 20+ yrs of being an over worked & under appreciated inner city GP she decided enough was enough.

The BBC was only able to secure a maximum of 2 free-to-air live-streams after Discovery Channel bought the rights for 2018-24 for £900m. Try doing some homework for once before running your mouth off!
@Telegraph
There are 2 ways to look at this:
1. If you genuinely believe your own headline, then you have just demonstrated that these drs are crucial for the health of the nation, & they should therefore be paid generously to end the industrial action & stem the overseas exodus.

@BigHammo
@bbcnickrobinson
@Conservatives
If you’re referring to immigration, in my experience as a Consultant Anaesthetist for the past 20 yrs I’m far more likely to be working alongside drs & nurses from overseas than I am to be treating someone from overseas. Without these key staff we’d be even more buggered.
@dotcom_nufc
@EdConwaySky
@bankofengland
Well this isn’t news for long serving senior NHS drs like me; successive Conservative Chancellors have been destroying our pensions for the past 12 yrs. Welcome to the club, everyone!
@SiobhanBenita
@Conservatives
spend an additional 8hrs / wk out riding my bike.
Of course this outcome probably hasn’t been great for those on NHS waiting lists, but the
@TheBMA
have vociferously highlighted this problem & the public kept voting Tory, so I can only conclude this is what the public want.
@HMRCgovuk
Lads, you’re targeting the wrong chap with this ad; I’m a PAYE NHS Consultant with no private practice.
Instead, why don’t you go have a chat with Sajid Javid about his time at Deutsche Bank?
@drphilhammond
It’s all pointless purgatory.
The module my employer has added on is how to spot patients at risk of falls.
I’m an anaesthetist; ALL my patients are at risk of falling after I’ve finished with them, that’s why I send them ➡️ wards on a trolley rather than letting them walk! FFS!
@SiobhanBenita
My work-life balance. I’m an NHS Consultant Anaesthetist who used to work 12 PAs / week, but thanks to successive

When we were part of the EU there was some compulsion on the French Government to prevent their further progress. Now we’ve left, partly thanks to your misguided efforts, the French will just wave them through and out of the EU! You didn’t really think that through, did you?
@EthersonKevin
@BMA_JuniorDocs
Sounds like you need to introduce a more robust policy in your dept regarding Consultant leave. Who has authorised 60% of the Consultants to be on annual leave simultaneously? I’d have a word with the Clinical Director if I were you.
@Iromg
Who needs them?
Well, based on my 20 yrs experience as a Consultant Anaesthetist, I’d say overweight men well into their 60s need them more than most!
@Francis36258734
Having done 28yrs in the NHS & also worked in the private sector for 15 of those yrs, let me tell you something.
Private medical insurance is like a surgical gown: you only think your arse is covered!
@NadineDorries
@DailyMailUK
As a nursing student in the 1970s you would have surely received a full bursary, yet apparently you worked as a trained nurse in the NHS for only 3 yrs before quitting to work in the private sector as a sales rep.
Did you return the bursary?
Schrödinger's NHS staff: simultaneously so vital to the nation that they are to be exempted from self isolation if identified as a C19 contact, yet so undervalued that they are worthy only of pay deflation & denuded pensions!

Speaking as a medic who works in both the NHS & Private sector, I’d like to give you this advice: private healthcare is like a surgical gown; you only think your arse is covered.
Private medicine won’t be there for you in a true medical emergency, but the NHS is.
@MattHancock
Funny thing is, in the 25yrs I've been an NHS dr I've never experienced a problem with a fax, but the rest of the IT system falls over on an almost daily basis. Perhaps there's a reason we still rely on fax machines?
@ESHTNHS
“A Physician Associate is a generalist healthcare specialist trained to a medical model.”
Meaningless word salad designed to obfuscate & mislead the public / patients.
@drphiliplee1
I think it’s time (late) middle aged medics started reciprocating with ill-informed opinions / advice on subjects such as: which fake tan to choose, is mauve the new taupe for soft furnishings this season, this year’s Love Island winner’s preferred brand of worming tablets, etc..
@LanceForman
@RishiSunak
BTW, my salary has already fallen about 20-30% in real terms, relative to equivalents in the private sector since about 2010. Who should I speak to about that?
@NadineDorries
@DailyMailUK
I see you’re about as knowledgeable on medical workforce training as you were on Channel4’s financial arrangements. That £500k figure includes their salaries whilst in training grades, during which time they provide a massive amount of service commitment.
@armyemdoc
@BryanGlezerson
Ridiculously unnecessary & highly likely to add a load of naso-pharyngeal bleeding to further complicate your second attempt at intubation!
@alastairmiller3
I presume you’ll therefore forego any uplift to your own salary which would have resulted from the industrial action?
To do otherwise would be hypocritical.
@JimBethell
Jim, looks like you’ve got a new iPhone. I switched from an iPhone 8 to a 12 last week, & guess what?

Too late; the cat’s out of the bag now. You’re going to have to provide the exact same working conditions / perks in the exact same proportions to the number of eligible employees, for all clinical staff.

“Bloated , inefficient NHS” Consultant Anaesthetist here. Spent most of last night getting an elderly lady through major lifesaving surgery. 🤔 I don’t recall the private sector being keen to get involved in this kind of work. Just remember that & be careful what you wish for.
@FaisalMajid3

And you have an overinflated opinion of your own expertise in this area.
If you wish to socially engineer the composition of medical school applicants (without downgrading the NHS with Noctors) try reintroducing FULL grants for tuition fees / living expenses.

Ultimately Dyson contributed f’all to the UK Covid response yet sought & received tax concessions from

By way of contrast I offer this:
We live in Wales but my daughters both go to a private school over the border in England.
Both were vaccinated by the Welsh NHS weeks before the school was doing so.
@MattHancock
My wife leaves General Practice in March, she’s 46 and has had enough of the workload, escalating patient demands, falling salary (despite being a senior partner) and political interference. Have you ever thought about asking someone like her what it would take to make her stay?
@nikkijfox
Funny how bankers & CEOs must be paid high salary due to “market forces” but the same logic is eschewed when it come to addressing staff shortages in the health & social care sector. This is the inevitable result of 12 yrs of sub inflation pay in this sector. Stop voting Tory!
@johnredwood
Sorry, mate, this anaesthetist won’t help you out with extra clinical activity until you reverse a decade of sub-inflation pay & remove AA & LTA taxes from my 1995 NHS pension. Tell
@RishiSunak
to let me know when he’s ready. Until then I’ve plenty to do in my spare time…
