Funny thing about this photo
The photographer said ‘you’re sitting like a man, maybe change your leg position’
I smiled and said ‘no, this is how I like to sit, that’s the whole point of the article’
🫠
Sure Amanda,
Let me know when you’ve had to rush a young man to theatre at 1am who’s pelvis is crushed and his limbs partially amputated
And not left the operating theatre for 8 hours
It’s the same
Matt Hancock:
‘The best thing about leaving the jungle will be seeing my girlfriend’
Not his children, who’s lives he’s thrown into turmoil by having a public affair, leaving and breaking up his marriage
Sigh…
I am absolutely raging, shivering and I don’t even know what
In the supermarket with my kids and a well to do woman walks up to me and shouts that ‘I’m conditioning my kids’ because I’m wearing a mask
How privileged these people must be not to have seen the death we have
Stripping ur clothes off outside your front door, asking your husband to clear a path and make sure kids weren’t in it…
… in order to run to the shower and wash and disinfect, horrified you might infect your 2 babies and your husband
I remember that
I’m finding it hard to stomach Dominic Raab defending
@BorisJohnson
& Downing St as a “cockpit for people working phenomenally hard under phenomenal strain.”
Oh really? Try 13 hour shifts in full PPE. Try iPad farewells. Try terror & grief & trauma & horror.
You have NO idea.
The Consultants of Dorset hospital have written a letter to
@SteveBarclay
They strike tomorrow
This letter is incredible
I challenge anyone to refute a single point in it
Worth a read for you too
@wesstreeting
I live in london and I speak Farsi
Does anyone know where and if afghan families will be placed in London or the surrounding area and if I can be of any help
Thanks x
Selfish. Junior doctors who risk lives aren’t fit to be doctors and I hope they don’t get any pay rise. Morality means you save lives regardless of pay. If you save lives to get paid, then you’re in the wrong profession
#JuniorDoctorsStrike
On a survey of all male surgeons I know, a vast majority of them have partners who work part time:don’t work (I know some who’s partners do, but majority don’t)
Of female surgeons I know all their partners work full time
Let’s think about what this means for women in surgery?
My medical timeline is full with personal and colleague examples of healthcare staff unable to get back to work in the NHS
No PCRS
No Lat flows
We need action QUICKLY otherwise patients will be the ones who suffer
What’s your plan
@sajidjavid
@BorisJohnson
Hi
@gabyhinsliff
‘Junior’ doctors aren’t ‘young’
I am 37, have 2 children, founded and run multimillion pound organisations, have been training for 12 years, and operate on people independently
Would you call any other professional 12 years into their profession ‘junior’ ?
I’m an NHS doctor
I support NHS
#NursesStrike
They have one of the most trusted roles in society and yet are paid a pittance
This government should be ashamed that whilst they sip on their subsidised beers, nurses need to use food banks
#FairPayforNursing
#DoctorsForNurses
NHS staff are GAGGED by their trusts
Trusts put a clause in their contract that they can’t talk about what’s happening in their hospital
You’ll see lots of anonymous accounts sharing that’s because it’s the only way we have of speaking out
Trusts need to release these
Lucy Letby being flagged as a possible murderer but allowed to continue working…
*is what happens*
When NHS managers can threaten consultants with GMC referral for speaking up on an area of expertise
Time to adjust this dynamic & regulate NHS managers
@RishiSunak
So hospital trusts are desperately asking staff to come in on their leave to help
Are staff now expected to work all year every year to keep things afloat? If you can even call it that
Pandemic, terrible pay, horrendous workload due to staff leaving, belittled
Enough is enough
This woman is an immigrant, an ophthalmic surgeon and a GP
She was top of her entry and specialty exams and was asked to compete as Miss Iran in Ms Universe (which she declined to do)
She is formidable, kind, caring, smart, inspiring & full of integrity
She is my mum
#IWD2022
So my understanding is that NHS trust debt HASN’T been written off
It has been converted to Public Dividend Capital, which has a higher interest rate of 3.5%
I hear Trust finance directors not happy. Not quite what the headlines are saying is it?
NHS Consultants Strike Today
I support them; they take on untold amounts of responsibility and stress
They are who I and the entire country turn to when we need the best expert advice and care available
They are irreplaceable
Pay them properly
@SteveBarclay
British Medical Association Doctors have voted to scrap the term JUNIOR doctor
Should have been the case long ago.
Very pleased.
Don’t ever use it again please 🙌🏽
Junior doctors pay for their own:
Training costs
Exams
Regulation
Portfolios
Parking
Let alone expensive shift-hours childcare, housing, some with 100k student debt
We are more United than ever that our pay is not commensurate with the above
We won’t give up
Strike

Dear
@richardbranson
It MAY have been your executives who sued the NHS for 100s of thousands, taking resource away from the sick
But now u are aware I would like to think you'd instruct them to give it back? What do u say?
Who else would like to see that?
Merry Christmas 🌲
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again
Vaccinate NHS staff as a priority otherwise it will be one the greatest scandals of this pandemic
260+ healthcare workers dead and counting
Dear Britain,
If I told you that unregulated healthcare workers - who aren’t doctors and nurses, and with no formal surgical training pathway - were performing SURGICAL procedures on you in the NHS
How would you feel?
(Cystoscopy is keyhole into the bladder up the urethra)
Excellent by
@TheBMA
@ERunswickBMA
Deputy Chair
‘It only sounds like we’re asking for a lot because that’s how much pay we’ve lost’
❌ No to a one off payment
@SteveBarclay
We need all NHS staff to be vaccinated immediately, as a priority, and completely with two doses as recommended by the manufacturer
Because when I hear 16 staff from the same department (in an unnamed trust) are off at the same time I can’t help continuing to bang this drum
Hey
@loosewomen
you’ve brought up this GP issue several times now
Your own panelist’s say ‘they don’t understand it’
Instead of stoking anger which is resulting in GPs being physically and verbally abused. Why don’t u do the responsible thing & ask a GP on the show to explain?
Just read ‘Honours for people who have gone above and beyond in services to the country during the pandemic’
Then see list of celebs etc
Honestly incredible when you know of doctors and nurses who lived separate from their families or in caravans to keep going... and no honours
In the last few years I have been lucky enough to work with the most supportive and wonderful consultants, male and female
One of them asked me ‘is all this sexism & sexual harassment in surgery stuff true?’
And I realised, despite my own discomfort, I had to speak up
Dear
@RishiSunak
If other countries can afford to pay their doctors properly and have far more doctors per popualation
So can we,
Best wishes,
A Doctor who won’t accept 6%
I’m not sure why Labour and
@wesstreeting
think they will help themselves or the NHS by attacking it’s staff
The staff stand together, and they stand for patients
You do nothing but belittle yourself,
@Keir_Starmer
and Labour with aggressive language toward its staff
I don’t wish for the queens recovery, I wish her what she wishes for, I wish her comfort and love
She’s 96, she’s done her duty, it’s time for her to have her own wishes granted, whatever they may be
If Labour think they can play the NHS off each other they’ve got another thing coming
Every doctor I know supports a nurses strike
Every nurse I know supports a doctors strike
Good try but nope
@DHSCgovuk
So all the pay from ALL the EXTRA SHIFTS we have to do to cover all the ROTA GAPS you’ve created by being incompetent enough to DRIVE US ALL OUT TO AUSTRALIA? Oh yeah those figures….
The consultants DID catch this
@theJeremyVine
They have just been so bullied and disenfranchised in NHS culture that they are threatened and disbelieved instead of listened to
No need for AI
The reality of women surgeons:
Me: ‘I’m Roshana, one of the surgeons, Mr x Registrar. WE will do x, y and z and were planning to do it like this’
Patient ‘Ok and when THEY do that…’
THEY not WE. Not YOU, surely.
It takes tiny pieces out of you every single time
#ortho
Every single day I am praying none of my family get ill at the moment
The NHS can no longer deliver safe and timely care
I can’t believe I’m saying it.
But it’s true
Seeing women surgeons being called SNOWFLAKES this morning
Call me a snowflake all you like
I’ve overcome hurdles you’ve never had to. I’ve been told I couldn’t achieve my dreams and laughed at
I create my own reality
In spite of you
Dear
@Jeremy_hunt
This is not 2016.
You are MUCH MUCH weaker opponents with an upcoming election in a failing party AND you have almost every staff group resolutely striking
Be sensible and reasonable instead of intransigent and childish
5YO: Mummy what did you do at work today? (First time he’s wanted detail)
Me: Gave a man a new knee
5YO: WHAT?! Do you just have knees lying around or something?!
🤣💀
‘Junior’ doctors are balloting for strike action next week
Support us, because our collective action, alongside nurses & paramedics, is the only way to change the governments policies which are wilfully collapsing our NHS
We’ve said this would happen for years
#NHSinCrisis
2023:
2 kids
Miscarriage
Life threatening operation proposed 3 days before my FRCS part 1 exam in June delayed op til one day after exam - pass
4 hour commute to work (for 4 years)
Part 2 FRCS - pass
Impossible without my amazing husband & if I had listened to Naysayers
British doctors and nurses help drive record migration to Australia
Oh
@SteveBarclay
you really do have nowhere to hide do you? The Times even calling it
Offer doctors proper pay
Dear
@SteveBarclay
@Jeremy_Hunt
&
@RishiSunak
Have you ever been told you’re at risk of life-threatening torrential haemorrhage at any moment?
I have, just a few weeks ago
I’m a patient, a mum of 2 and a ‘junior’ doctor orthopaedic surgeon
A thread 🧵

Rage
Someone at nursery told my beautiful boy, who LOVES dancing, that ballet & dancing is only for girls
We had that chat. Yes we did
Mummy was told she couldn’t fix bones. And she does
He can do whatever he wants - I showed him a video of men doing ballet
Mesmerised 👌🏾
I was saying to a colleague that our daily time on ICU proning breaks my heart
I see the patients faces over and over in my head
For a moment I think I should look away and then remember to keep looking, because each one is a son, father, husband, wife, mother or daughter
Dear
@SteveBarclay
These are the salaries of specialist doctors in the USA
Now we don’t expect this, but we do expect to have our pay restored to 2008 levels at the very least
We know our worth
We are internationally valuable
Get competitive or lose even more of us
We’ve all had a promotion:
Me: Do you know that mummy’s a doctor?
Toddler: Yeeessss
Me: And what do doctors do?
Toddler: Fly in the sky, on dragons, maaassssive dragons
🤗
Man DESPERATE to look like he’s doing something useful as doctors and consultants strike this week
We asked for 26%
We rejected 5%
Scotland got offered 17.5%
We ain’t accepting 6%
Stop the Vacuous Nonsense
@RishiSunak
I have a responsibility to be fair to public sector workers and to taxpayers when making decisions about public sector pay.
And I know you are relying on me to reduce inflation.
I’ll set out how I will achieve all that – live, here on Twitter.
Controversial take
If you want to tackle the evangelical ‘natural birth’ non interventionist lobby
You need to start with NCT classes
‘Not all’ obviously but my and my friends experiences made us want to blow our carotids at some things that were said
When I was an F1 I’d offer my supervisors feedback
One time I thanked my supervisor for being so approachable, and he replied:
‘The only reason that you are there and I am here is by virtue of the years we were born’

Doctor strikes today
I’ve been a doctor for 12 years. I’m not ‘junior’ and this is my strike too
Pay us a fair wage for the responsibility we take on
@RishiSunak
We won’t stop until you do
@SteveBarclay
The BMA have written extensively what was discussed. You did not bring a single offer to the table, only more preconditions. You refused to talk for more than an hour.
You are not taking this seriously.
It is serious.
Once upon a time I was on a flight and there was a medical emergency.
A woman was unconscious on in the aisle.
I knew exactly what needed doing: I confidently instructed the flight attendant to ‘refer medics’
Another life saved
I’m a surgeon with multiple degrees, postgraduate qualifications and whatnot
And I just realised the reason my decongestant wasn’t effective this morning is because I ‘sprayed’ it up my nose with the *lid on*
