I am honoured to have been elected Leader of our Welsh Labour Party.
Mae’n anrhydedd i mi gael fy ethol yn arweinydd Llafur Cymru.
To Welsh Labour members, trade union colleagues, and every Labour representative in Wales — thank you for putting your trust in me.
Absolutely right from
@AngelaRayner
today.
In Wales, under
@WelshLabour
, there were no crony contracts and no VIP lanes.
There was no excuse for turning the pandemic into a payday for friends.
Really disappointing that
@TheSun

I’ve seen the media briefings and changed message for England. There has not been a 4 nations agreement or discussion on this. The

Strong words from
@Keir_Starmer
today on the
#BlackLivesMatter
movement and why it’s important for us all to join together, challenge racism, inequality and injustice wherever we find it.
"For people that look like me, having a PM who uses language of ‘watermelon smiles’ and ‘piccaninnies’, it matters. Just as someone comparing the experience of Wales to colonialism and the African American experience. It matters and it’s offensive." My clip from

This won’t create a single job.
It won’t lift one child out of poverty.
It won’t reward talent or effort.
It will make the richest richer.
It will stoke division and fuel inequality.
It's for the Tories, not the future.
So out of touch. No property in the Rhondda would take a couple over the threshold. This is a tax cut for a tiny proportion of the richest people in the country. Yet more irresponsible Rish!nomics.
An honour to be elected Leader of our incredible Welsh Labour Party today.
I spoke with
@Keir_Starmer
this morning about the fight ahead and our chance to create a brighter future for Wales, together.
Thank you to Jeremy for the ideas, energy and commitment he has brought to…
Huge congratulations to
@VaughanGething
on his election as Leader of the Welsh Labour Party.
His appointment as First Minister of Wales, the first Black leader in the UK, will be an historic moment that speaks to the progress and values of modern-day Wales.
I pay tribute to…
Really frustrating that UK
@BBCNews
at 6.00 carry an item on the “national” Test & Trace service reaching less than 80% of positive cases. They mean England but that really wasn’t made clear. In Wales in the last week we reached 88% of positive cases.
The shared prosperity fund announcement today confirms that Wales will have less say over less money. It is another manifesto pledge broken by the Tories - and they know it. Wales will lose £1bn over the coming years.
This is abhorrent. It's racism, pure and simple - at the top of the Tory Party.
Solidarity to Muslims in my constituency, across Wales, and all over the UK who should not have to have their place in this country questioned.
Conservative MP Lee Anderson tells GB News that he thinks Sadiq Khan has "given our capital city away" to Islamists, who are "his mates".
"Islamists have got control of Khan and they’ve got control of London," he says.
I’m obviously embarrassed about my comments at the end of questions today. I’ve sent a message apologising and offered to speak to
@JennyRathbone
if she wishes to do so. It is an unwelcome distraction at a time of unprecedented challenge.
This man is simply wrong. I’m married to a Catholic, our son’s godfather is gay and Catholic. He and his boyfriend are positive examples of kindness & decency for our son. I am glad that our son has better role models than the bigotry in this Bishop’s heart and mind.
You do not resolve a negotiation by silencing the other party.
You do not end a dispute by picking another fight.
The Welsh Government invests in partnership and dialogue, especially in tough times.
This reckless Tory attack on workers' rights will only make matters worse.
The First Minister had just described the scale of the damage the Tories have caused. The crisis made in Downing Street means our budget is already worth £4bn less. That’s before the threat of a new wave of austerity.
This anger is shared by MSs and clearly felt by the public.
This is really disappointing from
@BBCDanielS
@bbcnews
and simply not true. The
@WelshGovernment
rules in Wales will be policed. We are not flexing political muscle - we are acting to keep people safe. Not very complicated.
This is dishonest and utterly predictable. I didn’t break the rules.
I went on a local walk (within scooting distance of home for a 5yr old) and stopped to eat with my family. We then continued our daily exercise to get home. All within the rules.
There was no breach of the
@welshlockdown
rules when we fed our 5 year old son in the middle of our family walk. People are still dying every day. There are difficult choices to make every day. Misleading the public does not save a single life. We all have responsibilities.
Just to be clear - this is about the position in England. Throughout the pandemic
@WelshGovernment
has never had a VIP lane. The same rules applied to everyone.
The High Court has ruled the Government's use of a so-called VIP lane to award contracts for the supply of personal protective equipment to two companies during the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic was unlawful

Long overdue recognition for these Welsh legends whose achievements were made harder by the racism that forced them north to ply their trade.
Extremely proud that the Codebreakers are now a permanent and prominent part of the Bay.
Let's make 2024 the year we get rid of this disastrous Tory government.
Wales needs our party to be ready to win from day one.
As Welsh Labour leader I would work tirelessly with members and supporters, with a vision of what two Labour Governments could achieve, side by side.
Tory chaos has shrunk the Welsh budget, creating a £1.3bn shortfall.
That‘s 3 times the size of our economy budget.
Not a penny of promised EU replacement funds has been provided for this budget.
Crashing the economy and ploughing cash into Tory seats has consequences.
There's been lots of noise today from Tories about successful Levelling Up bids.
But it's clear this was never about directing money where it's needed most.
Whilst Rishi Sunak has given wealthy Tory constituencies millions, here's some Welsh communities that missed out.
🧵
Staggering - language like this will bleed public trust & provoke ridicule. It’s still a serious time and we need serious people in government across the UK.
Great to welcome
@Keir_Starmer
to Ynys Môn today to discuss the massive green energy opportunities on the island.
Our Welsh Labour Government is investing to expand Wales’ green energy sector, but we need a proper partner in Westminster to go further.
With Labour, that is…
I’m in priority group 6 because of my kidney condition. I had my vaccine today. It’s so important that people from Black and Asian communities get the jab when

The Covid vaccine programme is not stuttering in Wales. It is an act of irresponsible scaremongering to claim it is. We are using the same prioritisation as every other UK country. The first phase includes over 80s, care home residents & frontline NHS & social care staff.

People who believe black lives matter are not "extremists".
Picton's statue was taken out of City Hall because elected councillors voted for it to go.

These are deeply disturbing comments from a Tory Party that is retreating to its darkest corners.
This is not merely a calculated culture war - it is now clearly driven by their ideology.

Under my leadership, Welsh Labour will never shy away from telling the truth about the scale of the damage the Conservatives have inflicted on Wales.
This is why for Wales, the general election cannot come soon enough.
57 years may have passed but we will never forget the 144 lives that were lost and the countless lives that were changed forever.
Across Wales today, we remember Aberfan.
It’s worth pointing out - as it’s missing in this
@BBCNews
@BBCNewsbeat
report - that in Wales 43.7% of 40-49 year olds have already had a first dose. I’m sure that will be remedied very soon today by the BBC.
💉 The government said it was on track to offer a first dose to all adults by the end of July
💉 More than 32 million people in the UK have had their first dose

The Six Nations tournament doesn't belong behind a pay wall.
It should be broadcast free to air, for everyone.
The UK Government have dragged their feet for far too long. It's time to add the Six Nations to the list of crown jewel events.
Disappointing to see

I took part in a 4 Nations ministerial call this afternoon to consider the increase in Covid-19 cases in Spain. As a result I have amended

Except

this didn’t happen -
@fmwales
pointed at that UK Govt rules still prevent people from England travelling. A correction would be helpful.
Welsh leader Mark Drakeford has said English tourists will be banned until at least the summer. If that's his attitude, why would we want to visit then? I'll go somewhere that's desperate to have me, like Greece.

Buried on page 199 of the Department of Health and Social Care’s annual report published yesterday is the shocking disclosure that it has incurred £8.7bn of losses - £8.7bn ! - on £12.1bn of PPE bought in 2020/21. Think about how that money could have been…
Obviously I’m disappointed not to win the

A pleasure to address Shadow Cabinet this morning to discuss the privilege of being in government in Wales.

@UKLabour
will restore these budgets to Wales.
Wales can’t afford 5 more years of the Tories.
Rhondda Cynon Taf submitted a bid for money to bring jobs to Cynon Valley.
❌️ The £17.8m bid was rejected...
✅️ ...but the PM's own wealthy constituency was successful in its bid for £19m to help fund walking routes and a town square.
So while Rishi Sunak’s wealthy constituency has received £19m in the latest round of Levelling Up, they have refused the bid for less than that from RCT Council for new factory units.
This in one of the poorest areas of Wales. Is this Torys Levelling Up?? 😡

I believe we can.
