I’m confused @ScottMorrisonMP Omicron spreads more easily than any other variant. It doesn’t care if you are a family member, a coworker, a drinker in the pub or breathing the same air in a lift. Isolating close contacts slows spread. Isolating less people means faster spread.

So @ScottMorrisonMP says states have had time to prepare hospitals for COVID- and maybe he’s right- but they haven’t got the money, staff or capacity to deal with surging non-COVID demand. PM, we need you to help solve this national crisis, not blame hospitals or their staff.

Stopping surgery and other care was necessary in 2020 in a crisis. But there is no excuse for lazy planning now. If we can’t open up without decimating ordinary health care maybe we need more than 80% of our population vaccinated?

I have obtained information about hospital-acquired COVID-19 from Queensland Health. From Jan-22 to June-23 an average of 14 people caught C19 in hospital each day, and one of these died each day. The data only lists deaths in the hospital, we don't know how many died soon after…

Even IF Omicron turns out to be mild in vaccinated people, an explosion of cases will have a devastating effect on healthcare- GPs looking after community cases, furloughing of exposed workers and of course the unknown proportion who will need to be treated in hospital.

Extremely powerful story from @NC_Robinson in @australian today. 16 practitioners have taken their lives while under investigation by @Ahpra .🤯 Good to see recognition of the toll regulatory processes take on people. Let's work together to change things for the better.

The right call made by #NSW today. Let’s channel all the anger and disappointment into the things that will make a difference. Get #Vaccinated and follow public health orders. Sydney has won battles with #COVID before and will again. The war can only be won with vaccines.

QLD doctor exposed to #COVID , did all the right things with no breach of PPE protocols and still tests positive. Clearly PPE inadequate. COVID transmission to quarantine and health workers is now COMPLETELY preventable with proper PPE and vaccines. No excuses.

@nick_coatsworth And waiting until ICU numbers climb will be too late. NSW should have learnt that lesson. Flattening the curve now will have less impact on people than implementing major restrictions after the horse has bolted (look at the Netherlands).

With the watering down of COVID protections such as iso and mask- wearing - and an end-of-year wave predicted - then we need to understand how people are being affected more than ever. We need to know that if reports come out weekly that daily analysis is still happening.📈🔬🚩

For the sake of patient safety, it's vital the role and responsibilities of physician associates are set out clearly. Our new guidance does this, and we encourage employers to adopt it immediately. Watch @DrPhilBanfield set out why this is so vital.

Slowing the spread would have helped the health system cope- but the die is cast and we will have to do our best. My thoughts: Take Prof Talley’s advice and protect yourself with booster vacc, proper masks, RATs and think about how to manage an infection at home. Prepare ahead

Well done my friend. Like you, I had a bivalent booster yesterday. Bit of a headache and some muscle aches today, but well worth it!

I'm eligible for Covid vaccination again, & took a bivalent version after work today. The principles of vaccination haven't changed in 250 years, though the technology behind them certainly have. The unvaccinated are overrepresented in severe Covid. Don't be one of them.

Healthy people breathe life into the economy - you can't have a healthy economy without healthy people. The Government listened to our message and put health at the heart of #Budget2023 Thanks for listening to what we've been telling you. @JEChalmers @Mark_Butler_MP @AlboMP

I checked - and it looks like NHS junior doctors earn less now, in real terms, than I did as an NHS visiting registrar in 1997! 🤯🤯🤯🤯 @RobLaurensonD4P @TheBMA #NHSCrisis #JuniorDoctorsStrike
