Australia. Divided and polarised, still unable to come to terms with our history. It's easy to tear things down, so much harder to build & nurture. I, for one, will keep trying to listen to those whose voice has been ignored.

This afternoon, hundreds of antivax protesters blockaded Flemington Rd & made it difficult & traumatic for sick kids, their families & the staff to get to RCH. I am disgusted beyond words at their ignorance & malice. You are beneath contempt.

In one of my hospitals, it takes 5 days of cleaning to get a #COVID19Vic ward safe to resume elective surgery. That's how infectious this virus is. That's why shortcuts advocated by some experts in journalism, economics & politics need to be politely dismissed. #springst #auspol

Let's be careful with language. Millions of us live quite normally with underlying conditions. If it is used as a measure of risk, fine. If it is used to somehow mitigate responsibility for bad outcomes, that's unacceptable. #Covid19Aus #auspol

At the worst of the 2020 #COVID19Vic 2nd Wave, 50 of our 450 ICU beds had Covid patients fighting for life. Enormous stress on staff & the system. #COVID19nsw already sees >30 in ICU. Younger, unvaccinated, more severe illness. The heroes are #healthcareworkers , not protesters.

Crunch time for vaccinations in Australia. I will respectfully listen to the hesitant, but I won't mince words. Refusal to vaccinate jeopardises everyone around you. There will be many consequences, & tears of regret will be too late when the inevitable occurs. #COVID19Aus

An end to our #Covid19vic lockdown. The toughest time in the lives of so many Victorians. The pure joy of being with loved ones again. For me, my special day still lies ahead. My wife moves to Melbourne next month. Never again will we be separated by a border.

Calling the Code Brown/External Disaster acknowledges the straits our health system is in. 2 messages - HCWs: we need some of you in areas way out of your comfort zone. The public: be patient with us, be kind & understand we're doing our best. #COVID19Vic

These are dangerous times for NSW & Vic, as #COVID19Aus cases climb in an undervaccinated population. Don't be fooled by some reckless govt decisions pretending to be consistent with national plans or a roadmap to freedom. Hospitals in Sydney & Melbourne are paying for them now.

It's hard to describe the healing that comes from a blue sky & a neighbour who cut my grass out of kindness. I know that despite the fatigue, there's more to be done to deal with #COVID19Vic . We have learned much about the virus, & ourselves. We are diminished without each other.

And they keep on coming. Unvaccinated, some refusing the offer of an on-the-spot vaccine. Anxiety & self-harm. And the occasional abusive antivaxxer. We shrug it off, unless they become violent. Hang in there, everyone. #COVID19Vic 's 3rd wave will end eventually.

The basis of Medicare is that essential medical care is provided on the basis of need, not affordability. That's how we have tried to manage the pandemic, and it shouldn't change now. #auspol

Within the constraints of patient confidentiality, there is a pressing need for Australia to hear the stories of #COVID19NSW healthcare workers as they confront Sydney's current wave of illness & suffering. Once heard, they cannot be forgotten. #COVID19Aus #auspol

It's tough to admit, but my battery is running low. Burnout is real, & it's insidious. If I wait in the hope of my clinical work settling to a safer level, my ability to care for the community & my colleagues will probably deteriorate. So it's time to practice some self-care. 1/2

Every single Victorian is consumed with #COVID19Vic & the restrictions we have all had to endure to save lives. Lifting them safely is a huge challenge. I ask myself what the message below does to help in that challenge. Nothing. It's a stunt to score points. #auspol

My message to the Premier of Victoria today and every day, is please understand the significant impact the harsh lockdown is having on the mental health of Victorians. The Morrison Government will continue to do everything we can to support Victorians.

Gee it's a tough time to provide healthcare in hospitals. #Covid19Vic hospital case numbers are definitely climbing now, staff shortages are unprecedented, & most of us are hanging on by our fingertips. We should be able to do better than this.

I realised over recent days that I have to do better at self-care. Working across a few emergency departments puts me at risk of burn out, and it's hard to admit that it's starting to show. The #Covid19AUs pandemic won't settle for a long while, so I need to make some changes.

More than 40 #COVID19Vic cases today. Don't panic. We expected a rise with day 13 tests of primary close contacts. Stay the course & stick to the plan.

As Europe descends into another wave of pandemic illness & mortality, the lessons for #Australia are clear. A lazy spring/summer with sloppy controls would lead to many more deaths & worse economic pain. Those of us who confronted the #COVID19Vic wave don't want it again #auspol
