Doctors are furious. A record breaking turn out of 77.49% and a 98% yes mandate smashing the anti-trade union legislation that demands POSTAL votes for a significant size of the workforce who rotates on an at least an annual basis is undeniable.

Today we went on strike. I heard @SteveBarclay wanted to urgently negotiate on sky news. Weird cause I didn’t get an email inviting me. So I went to DHSC and the Cabinet office but unfortunately Steve was out 😔 Steve says one thing but wants another. He wants these strikes.

I met the BMA’s junior doctors committee yesterday in the hope of beginning constructive talks. They placed a pre-condition on these talks of a 35% pay rise. That is unreasonable. My door remains open to constructive conversations, as I have had with other health unions.

We have been clearly told by DHSC that doctors wages are being suppressed and withheld by @RishiSunak himself. The Prime Minister now needs to explain to tens of thousands of doctors why he values us less than a doctor was worth in 2008.

It’s really very simple. Nurses deserve better pay. Nurses deserve better treatment. Patients need more nurses. Doctors need more nurses. How are we supposed to live and work in a healthcare system where we are haemorrhaging nurses, doctors, and dentists. #FullPayRestoration

Yet the level of scrutiny we will receive as individuals, as a profession, and as the BMA will far exceed the accountability of these people who have used power to destroy the lives and livelihoods of millions. The morality of #PayRestoration shields us from the cries of greed.

Doctors are highly educated, highly talented, highly skilled professionals We gave it our all and more during covid and were EXCLUDED from the NHS Pay Deal Covid aside, the skills we have are tremendously valuable and this is demonstrated by other countries paying competitively

I drive down the A2 to get to work every day and it always triggers this memory and my emotions. Those 2 people almost certainly came to harm because we don't have the people, the space, the resources. 9000 doctor vacancies. 2000 fewer GPs. Services cut, wages slashed.

The concept of physician associates is a synthetic solution to the manufactured workforce crisis. It is a division in of itself. It is a corporate weapon. There is no reason not to invest in these people by expanding undergrad/postgrad routes to medicine.

Blimey, the propaganda machine is very powerful. I’m a supporter of free at the point of access. We need to separate the important values from the corporate monstrosity the NHS has become. Propaganda like this is only going to contribute to the loss of faith in the NHS.

Physician associates support the wider clinical team, reduce workload pressure and enhance patient experience. The NHS Long Term Workforce Plan sets out how to build the right staffing and skills mix for the future, including expanding roles like these.

Year after year the NHS leaders have presided over deteriorating conditions and patient harm. The NHS leaders have failed and now they’re closing ranks with the government to throw doctors under the bus during our biggest whistleblowing exercise. The NHS hates doctors.

As of April 2022 we had lost 26.1% of our pay in real terms. This requires a 35% uplift. That is maths, not shifting the goal posts. Our demand is #FullPayRestoration . Come April 2023 we will recalculate inflation and our amount needed to restore our pay will increase.

Cautiously optimistic. Sceptical about the phrase “listened to”. We’re not asking for a listening exercise, we’re problem solving a workforce crisis. Only through collaboration will we resolve the issues of the profession. Gov needs to treat us as the solution, not enemies.

That 8.2% deal specifically said that the pay REVIEW body can REVIEW the pay. The government agreed to that. Now they say they can't retroactively look at it?! They don't want to look because the DDRB said the government's decision will affect patient care. Liars. Charlatans.
