There are no train strikes today and the trains operate under a model devised, and implemented, by a Tory Government. Would’ve expected a Tory Councillor to understand that! No surprise that a Tory wants to shift responsibility though!

It is worth remembering that what the Government did was prop up the privately owned train operators to stop them walking away. None of that money went to rail workers who carried on working throughout the pandemic. As such, your point is moot and has no relevance to the strikes.

Wasted an entire day travelling because of some tiny crack on the track that Network Rail are looking at overnight. I mean honestly, this country used to rule the world, now we fall apart over a sodding chip on a rail track.

It's a simple yes or no question, Secretary of State. Did you, at the last minute, insert a Driver Only Operation clause into negotiations to scupper any chance of a deal in the #RailStrikes ?

It’s 4% this year and 4% next, so we wouldn’t be able to negotiate in a year. Our members would be stuck with two below inflation offers, the closure of ticket offices, the removal of the guard and lots of job losses. This is an awful offer and it’s the passenger that loses.

That offer was not to all rail workers. The Network Rail offer included a 5% and 4% pay rise over a two-year period with thousands of job losses, a 50% cut in scheduled maintenance tasks and a 30% increase in unsocial hours. Your tweet, at best, is extremely disingenuous.

🤝 They have been offered a 9% pay rise and, whilst the TSSA (a union) have accepted it, the RMT (another union) have continued to reject it. It’s important that a good, reliable service is offered to those who need to travel – and the RMT’s approach is unacceptable. (3/4)
