Spent the final hours of my 20s watching that debate. Fitting, really - for a decade, my generation has been dealing with a crisis that landed on our heads after 2008. High rents, low wages, zero hours, student debt. At long last, there is an answer: a Corbyn government.

Right-wingers have spent decades telling us that value in our economy is created by the stock market or the genius of billionaires. All lies. We now know what really keeps the economy going – the hard work of carers, cleaners, posties, binmen. Labour, not capital.

Sixty years ago today Congo's first Prime Minister, Patrice Lumumba, was executed, cut up and dissolved in sulfuric acid by Belgian agents, with the support of the US and Britain, for the crime of demanding sovereignty over his country's resources on behalf of its people.

If the Labour Party in opposition can’t back workers when they have overwhelming public support then it will do nothing for them in government.

Andrew Adonis. David Blunkett. Alan Johnson. Three men who became ministers because of the labour movement, now using their platforms to attack unions when they need support most. Labour must never again be a career ladder for charlatans like this.

Mick Lynch of the @RMTunion gives his support to @unisontheunion care workers on strike in St Monica’s Trust. The media has tried to pit rail and care workers against each other – but it’s the same fight. #StMonicaStrike

35 years ago this month eleven workers in Dunnes Stores, one of Ireland’s corporate giants, refused to handle goods from apartheid South Africa and went on strike. They spent 3 years on the picket, just £21 per week. But in the end they forced the government to boycott apartheid.
