I’ve been in touch with Dr Philip Lee today – had a really constructive discussion including how we at

I have more understanding of how you feel than you may realise - my own career littered with failures. So please don’t walk away without talking it through. Feel free to DM if you wish.
Why is this still happening??
Cons: “It says here you're an academic trainee?"
Trainee: “Yes”
C: “Forget a career in medicine then"
T: “Sorry?"
C: “Well you won't have the capacity to be a proper doctor . . being a woman and an academic wannabe"
#Unprofessional
Just to clear this up - the
@gmcuk
do NOT mandate the National Training Survey. However the data supports quality assurance and to take action where concerns identified. High response rates improves reliability of analysis esp where small no of trainees.

Unhelpful and counterproductive. Weaponising GMC in this way is the wrong approach. ‘Please don’t - they are copyright’ is sufficient (if true) but good learning will always be shared.

No one should just be for service provision. No one. There have been multiple national documents on the importance of the professional development of SAS doctors.
I know that

I had a very constructive conversation with
@drcolinm
shortly after I left, and he was very supportive. I've offered any help I can to shape how they can signpost those having genuine concerns, whilst safeguarding the mental health of the doctors involved.
To be clear - the below message is incorrect and constitutes deliberate misinformation - I did not say Consultant Physician Associates are planned - and indeed it would not be for the regulator to make such a decision.
@EmergMedDr
No one can underestimate the emotional impact of this time. Being honest with each other and supporting one another is key. Remember . . .
“It’s ok to not be ok”
#coronavirus
#covid19UK
but…doctors don’t become leaders when they hit a certain level of seniority. Leadership is about the way a doctor conducts themselves, and relates to those around them, every day. It’s about behaviours, rather than hierarchy or formal responsibilities.

National training survey results now out. Great to see training quality high despite pandemic pressures. Concerned to see burnout reaching its highest level since 2018. I’ll be writing to trainees and trainers today with info about how we’ll use this data to influence change.

Interesting debate on titles-
The Medical Act (1983) almost always refers to ‘medical practitioners’ not doctors (or medical professionals).

Very good news from
@drcolinm
- "SJT is for the bin", it will soon no longer be used to rank medical students/foundation doctors. It produces perverse outcomes. Allocating simply by student/doctor placement choice alone results in 95% getting the posts they wanted.
Interesting point - there is no regulatory reason why SAS doctors cannot be education supervisors (of trainees even). Its about being trained for the role, not clinical seniority

although I’d prefer we have a constructive, respectful and challenging dialogue to shape the future for PAs and AAs rather than an ‘argy bargy’ approach
Because there has been lots of accusations flying about and because

basically asked me to, here is a long thread about the history of the disciplines and regulation.
And why the current argy bargy wasn't just inevitable, it is probably a good and useful thing.

We’ve collectively created an ‘in group’ and an ‘out group’: in training or out of training.
But in reality we need to support career opportunities for all doctors whatever their stage of learning and not related to their misconstrued ‘in’ or ‘out’ group.

A few thoughts:
1 - Feel a bit nervous at the start is normal but confidence will grow

3 - Prescribing always feels scary at the start - it’s the first time doing it ‘for real’
4 - Seeking reassurance is good
