Ok #Medtwitter . This isn’t complicated. Can we just agree that: 1. People shouldn’t be expected to work for free 2. The work HCAs do isn’t ‘menial’, it’s incredibly valuable and requires skill and training. Shall we agree so we can move on to our next drama?

Not “inevitable”, but a celebratory nerdy meme defs was… I’ve passed my MMedEd dissertation! I’m so grateful to everyone who took the time to help with questionnaire, interviews etc. ESP @BBMeded , my awesome supervisor! Now… should I do a PhD? “One to go…” #medtwitter

Workforce planning re training numbers in the UK is a mess. We have huge bottlenecks yet many consultant posts go unfilled. The common impact across both? The destruction of wellbeing amongst UK doctors. This issue is at the heart of almost every issue we discuss in #MedEd

2023 @NHSE_WTE Competition ratios are out. It is not looking good. A 20% increase in applications. Some of this will represent more people hedging their bets. Ten years ago 72-74% of people put in one application only. By 2017, this was 54%. Awaiting FOI for recent years.🧵

@DrDLittle Exams are incredibly important to us. We have subsidised exams for years, but the gap between fee income and exam costs has grown significantly as inflation has hit, which means a fee rise is unavoidable. We know times are tough and we don’t take fee increases lightly. (1/3)

If it's ok for UKFPO to take the next week off comms to mourn, surely FY applicants should also be able to have an extra week? This is poor. #meded #medtwitter

So grateful for a canteen that serves hot food all night. Popped down at midnight and fresh fish and chips was just being laid out. I didn’t indulge but was so tempted!

@BBCNewsnight What certainly isn't an 'all you can eat buffet' is Dr Eggitt's pre-med course, which costs hundreds of pounds (including uniform costs) to school students 🙃

There were suggestions to bring MSRA in for IMT. Your medical royal college reps successfully pushed back against this (for time being). We need to practice evidence based #MedEd . Where is the evidence for the MSRA? There are 2 papers on this in the whole literature. #medtwitter

I don't usually get very political on this but I honestly feel this tweet by Hancock is the biggest failure of leadership I've ever seen. Undermines months of work. We weren't allowed to let people visit their dying relatives in hospital. But he says this is ok?

@Edwina_Currie @TheBMA Yes let's campaign for F1s to earn £30/hour, to then get a massive pay cut after 12 months. That makes a lot of sense. Valuable contribution, cheers.

It demonstrates a staggering lack of understanding of flawed NHS culture to suggest execs would ignore multiple consultants banging their doors down yet suddenly listen to a ChatGPT ping.

I think AI will have to be used from now on. AI would have caught this — and execs would have to properly document their reasons for overruling it

In 2008 the BMA voted to cap places for medical students. Fifteen years on, this lack of doctors is being used as leverage to request an off-the-charts pay hike. If this were any other sector - with a monopoly, no less - I wonder if we'd tolerate this.
