Had mum guilt that I might miss my son’s virtual parent evening due to a busy ITU shift. Consultant covered me and shoved me into his lockable office. First ever parents’ evening done - one proud mama. Lots of parent guilt in this career but so grateful for awesome colleagues.

Ahh, induction day. HR have no ID, no parking permit or anything for me. And I got a parking ticket because the temporary parking permit has yesterday’s date on it. Oh well, bumped into loads of people I know and the consultant bought us coffee. Standard rotation really.

First payday in new trust, taxed wrongly so can’t even cover my bills this month now. Sent my last payslip to HR a month in advance. Payroll blame HMRC, HMRC system says they can’t discuss my query and hangs up automatically. Every. Single. Rotation.

My GP friend dragged me out from revision, bought me a Starbucks and while sitting there drinking she started questioning me on heat loss during anaesthesia. She’d actually looked up a topic and learnt it so she could help me revise while having coffee. 🥰

When an outside team brings a sick patient to your ED/theatre/ICU/other place, be kind. You know that they’ve probably been through a busy, chaotic few hours +. Don’t criticise the small things. Make them remember your dept. for your warm welcome, not for undue criticism.

@Orla91 The fact that it looks dull and repetitive shows someone is doing it right. Yes we just sit there and press the cancel alarm button. But only because of the f***ton of training and knowledge required to take off, cruise and land safely. But there’s plenty of fun too.
