The Taliban takeover has not been good for Pakistan. Drug-trafficking from Afghanistan has increased under Taliban rule, my new piece shows, with frequent large seizures of opiates and crystal meth, the latter feeding a domestic 'ice' epidemic.

Things going from bad to worse in Pakistan. There might be a risk of western sanctions if the authorities continue down this path. Which won't do the economy much good or help Pakistan's chances of unlocking IMF funds. Default more likely by the day.

Hard to believe the Zawahiri strike resulted from US-Taliban intel sharing. More likely is US-Pak cooperation. ISI must have decent visibility into goings-on in Kabul, plus the DG was in DC recently. Drone probably came from the Gulf via Pak airspace or from a base inside Pak.
