@TheBMA @DrPhilBanfield What do GP members of the BMA, already employing and supervising PAs, think of this guidance? It puts them in a really tricky situation. BMA say’s don’t let PAs see undifferentiated patients. In my PCN PAs seeing 500 patients a week, only ‘differentiated’ by receptionists.

@mmamas1973 I’m not a doctor, I’m not a substitute for a doctor, I’m not ‘playing at being a doctor’. I’ve worked in primary care for 8 years as a PHYSICIAN ASSOCIATE, I’m proud of my role. Today I saw 28 patients and was supervised by a GP. Stop spreading misinformation.

@DrLindaDykes Have you worked with PAs? They need to discuss every patient initially, possibly the first 2 years. I’ve worked full time in GP for 8 years, it would not be a good use of anyone’s time to discuss all 30 of my patients every day

@DocAnonX I’ve worked as a PA for 8 years, I doubt much will change. I might look at becoming a PA GP Partner as an extra challenge. PAs aren’t going anywhere and at some point you’re going to have to work with them.

@danielrao007 @DrJPGannon I think you’ll find most PAs acknowledge they are not doctors. Today I saw 28 patients in GP. Their problems were diverse and included 3 x OE, 1 verruca, acne, olecranon bursitis. 1 young chap was passing blood in his stool and urine, I asked my GP supervisor to review him.

PAs help out by doing the work that doesn’t require a doctor, thereby allowing them to do the stuff which requires 15 years of training
