The net result is a shrinking number of consultants which makes no sense given the NHS commitment to “consultant lead care”. That’s b/c we are “expensive”, not subject to monopoly employment because of PP, and having CCT’ed are very transportable globally.

Convince more people to take up non-consultant specialty doctor posts. These are quality clinicians that for one reason are off the training ladder. They won’t be consultants, can’t do private, get paid less, and provide beautiful long-term service provision at a given hospital.

The PA role is 100% service provision with no career progression, zero enforced training and is a role without global equivalence so beholden to the NHS. They can also perform clinical tasks with “next room” supervision so one consultant could supervise 3 theatres = less doctors!
