@DrAsifQasim
A hugely important clarification that needs to be repeated over and again. PA is an occupation or a job. *NOT* a profession. So no more calling them 'professionals' because they are not - explains the crass social media videos, references to doctors as 'juniors' etc etc.
So PAs are practioners not *professionals*? They are 100% *dependent* on Drs for supervision hence their job cannot exist in isolation. Contrast with nurses, physios, OTs, dieticians, teachers, solicitors etc who work 100% autonomously. Independent of all other professional roles
@pulsetoday
Naive, and breathtakingly arrogant.
PAs don't have a right to practise medicine, particularly given their lack of training.
They are not a 'profession', they are dependent practitioners. How could they determine their own scope of practice when doctors bear the clinical risk?
@Karenlovecheese

This is one reason why PA can't be described as a "profession". Too many PAs don't meet the standard of "professional behaviour." How are they getting away with this?

@StuMaitland
On call in FY1 my daughter was responsible for *300* patients in her hospital with the only other doctor being the MedReg. This was the absolute norm, an outrageous amount of responsibility, so wrong on so many levels including the appalling pay & long 12-13hr shifts ๐๐ณ

@Dr_JSA
PAs need to realise that their job *cannot* exist in isolation to doctors. PAs are 100% *dependant* on doctors and all this letter shows is that they clearly believe otherwise, which is the fundamental root of all the problems re working beyond their professional remit.
@physicianassoci
@TheBMA
@DrPhilBanfield

PAs are not trained to see undifferentiated patients and should not be put in this position. If they are, they should refuse on the grounds that it is outside their professional remit and endangers patient safety.

You are WRONG. It's the *responsibility* of each individual PA to say NO, they are unable to work in a particular role/carry out whatever tasks and procedures they've been asked to do that are *outside* of their remit on the grounds that it would be endangering patient safety.
