Amon is not a Communist.
He is a Blackshirt.
He is a member of the ruling elite masquerading as a "man of the people" to divide the working class, sow chaos and eliminate minorities.
The problem with the academic concepts of the "coloniser/colonised" entering the public realm in such a cack-handed fashion is that you'll never get people to understand how many groups were...both
Sometimes I wonder why my dad is so disillusioned with America but tonight I found out he got ran out of a town in Louisiana for "fraternizing with the coloured folk"....in 1989

's Graduate Driving License bill will have its second reading on May 17th.
I fully support this bill and
@owe65332
with her petition to push for Graduate Driving Licenses.
You can find the petition below:
*cuts to Starfleet, the Progressive Volunteer force of hippy soldier-scientists who see off fascists, Eldritch horrors and actual Gods at least twice a week*
Will always beggar belief that a cornerstone of the US Army's deployment to Britain between 1942 and 1944 "How much Jim Crow can we impose on these people before they finally tell us to stop"
Not to go all "Housing Theory of Everything" on it but the reason London Nightlife is shit is because none of the staff can afford to live within 40 minutes of where they work and struggle to get home after 1am
germanoids have such innocent and childlike enthusiasm for the tropics
imagine a world where the dutch or hanseatic league had colonized central america instead of the spanish
Having done London to Edinburgh semi regularly for four years by car and train, take the train. Always take the train. There is no circumstance you should drive when you can take the train.
I once drove from edinburgh to london (less than 8hrs if you don't stop) and local london friends acted like it was an insane thing to do. it's about the same as the drive from boston to dc.
churchill: yeah i had no idea that FDR was talking about the Empire when he was talking about self determination.
FDR: you know you guys want to run india forever? not anymore, babey
Nothing like the phrase "British civilians needed to be educated out of their hospitableness towards black Americans" to make you want to reach into the past and punch a nameless US army officer
Median British boomer. Not just passive to mediocrity, but actively for it and hostile to any change. Enforced by car.
Janet is not a meme. She is real.
Anyway as an Imperial Historian I struggle to take the popular narrative of Scottish subjugation particularly seriously, so long as it pretends that Scottish identity hasn't been massively tied to imperial service until very recently
You're trying to organise the largest amphibious invasion in human history and yet you're willing to take a sidebar to ensure that the Guys Who Like Lynching don't get too upset about the fact The Guys They Like to Lynch are also taking part in said invasion
Quentin Tarantino's "Star Trek" movie writer says the unmade pitch was "the greatest 'Star Trek' film."
"His vision was just to go hard. It was a hard R. It was going to be some โPulp Fictionโ violence. Not a lot of the language, we saved a couple things for just special
I feel a lot of sympathy for the civil service having to deal with the Americans demanding *twice* the amount of military infrastructure just so they can segregate it
you know sometimes I wonder if I'm overthinking my view that Americans project their own racial biases and hierarchies onto the rest of the world but then -
ME: so what brings you guys to England
CUSTOMER: we let my son pick out family holiday and wanted to visit the Tank Museum in Bovington
ME:
CUSTOMER:
SON IN QUESTION: they have a TOG
"oh bit Starfleet aren't competent, what about" I'm sorry the Federation + Starfleet managed to defeat a militarist warrior society through the power of friendship and post-scarcity economics, and then did it again a century later.
Guam, invaded by PLA Hypersonic Commandos. Experience the story of the brave ๐บ๐ธ 294th and 100th Infantry who blunted their slightly silly insertion.

One thing that quietly fascinates me in the world of fandom culture and "canon" is the dogged assertion that anything said or asserted onscreen has to be correct, or directly interpreted, when that is not how the real world works.
3 things:
1) "Captain Seven of Nine of the USS Enterprise" fucking rocks
2) Enterprise becoming a line exploratory cruiser instead of a battleship is actually a really cool idea to emphasise the fleet returning to its roots
3) Jack Crusher is Seven's batman, and that's hilarious
SNW is gonna end with Peck and Wesley walking into a turbolift and Shatner and Spock walking out in reused TOS footage and it's going to make some people here go insane

@jessiegender
Have you considered getting a hobby, like woodworking or watercolour painting? Something that doesn't involve scouring the internet to see if people are talking about you?
I'm sorry the Dutch did not exchange their entire North American holdings for one spice island for you to pretend that rich Europeans didn't have a massive hard-on for spices
Star Trek Twitter is great because one day you'll be talking about the ethical implications of colonial interventionism with someone and then the next day you're talking about how kinky Garak is WITH THE SAME PERSON
Go on, call the Federation an Empire again. Call Starfleet an oppressive force. Tell me the Klingons are the good guys. The Romulans. The Borg. Do it. DO IT.
Anyway, this thread feels like it's about to roll over into the 'doing numbers' zone, so I'm just going to say that race relations and civil rights is not a points-based competition, and if it was everyone would be disqualified for bad behaviour. Grow Up.
"every Captain has a thing" reaches peak absurdity when you remember that Jim Kirk...did not have a thing. He didn't have a thing! He didn't even have anything close to a thing!
People will really just say "I'd like to get sued by a multi million dollar franchise and in the process destroy the entirety of Fanfiction culture" and think they've made a point
There's a lot of "OH FUCK OFF" moments here but the idea that socialism means no resource trading of all kind is whack
What are you seizing the means of production for, exactly? Boy Scout badges?
Star Trek is NOT SOCIALIST. If you think Star Trek was socialist, you didnโt understand Star Trek.
Technologically has progressed to a post-scarcity society on some places like earth. But, thereโs private property ownership (Siskoโs restaurant, Picardโs Vineyard.) Thereโs
Kathleen Kennedy says they learned from โSOLO: A STAR WARS STORYโ that getting a new actor to replicate any of the OG characters is near impossible.
โNow it does seem so abundantly clear that we canโt do that.โ

It's very vogue these days to say the Star Trek was secretly conservative all along when the Original Series included episodes that condemned the logic behind the Vietnam War at a time when the war was still popular at home
If SNW leads to TOS being treated like Shakespeare (re-adapted, restyled) that is *less* a failure/betrayal than the transformation of Star Trek into a important and long-lived piece of literature, and that's an incredibly good thing
Sometimes I think about the fact the Trek did a "the Vietnam War is a bad idea" episode that was blatantly about vietnam and modern Trek has yet to do a blatant "fuck you, transphobes" episode
"oh John what about DS9" DS9 proves this point because the lesson of history is don't piss off the wishy washy liberals because if you do they're drop a sun on a city to prove their point
There is a bit in TOS where Kirk looks straight at the camera and talks about how horrible war is why it should be avoided.
And then he does it again five minutes later.
ppl need to realize that the only reason we are taught that Nazis are bad, is only bc Nazi Germany threatened the other empires of Europe. It was never about ideology, or protecting minorities, it was about the fact that Germany stepped out of the fold of western expectations.
It is so unspeakably cruel that the state will list Brianna Ghey as a boy on her death certificate.
A Gender Recognition Certificate is not a passport to spaces - you don't need one for that. What it allows for is basic dignity on documents like marriage or death certificates.
the dark forest hypothesis is so lame it sounds like something an edgy 14 year old would come up with. If we met aliens I think the best course of action would be to make out sloppy style with them, then spend 10 hours chatting and learning about eachothers cultures and societies
@davelant
The commonality in a lot of British reactions is the negative reaction to any American pressure to segregate: plenty are happy to do it in their own steam, in their own way, mind you: especially when it came to sex and relationships
Still think SNW needs to introduce McCoy by having Spock spend an entire episode looking for him on a starbase to solve an incredibly specific and important issue but Bones has been in the bar the whole time
