Sometimes I wonder why my dad is so disillusioned with America but tonight I found out he got ran out of a town in Louisiana for "fraternizing with the coloured folk"....in 1989

Anyways the fact that a lot of Americans are replying with content about how normal this was for the 80s/90s/00s/10s is...really bad You know that right, guys? Right?

@BadSocialism So 30 years ago? Which town? Was it everyone in town or just a tight knit group of bigots? How does this expand to the entire state? Country? Did he find a better town or was it racist everywhere? Has he visited/lived in other countries to measure America by?

@somebodie7 I'm not sure what the purpose of this tweet is but the fact that two white English students got chased out of a county at the barrel of a shotgun for going to a cookout is all the measure he needed to make an assessment

@BadSocialism David Duke made the top two in LAโ€™s 1991 gubernatorial election. He lost the runoff, but still. Sad

@BadSocialism Thatโ€™s absolutely horrible. The US is so openly racist, itโ€™s absolutely disturbing.

@BadSocialism There are still sunset towns to this day. Your Grandpa didn't miss much in that town, other than the friends he was chased away from.

@BadSocialism In 1985, in Long Beach, CA, we were told by the Elks Lodge pool attendant that in the future we should not bring any black people as our +1s. We werenโ€™t lodge members; a neighbor had given us a pool membership for the summer. Anyway, we never went back.
