Nigel Farage being like immigrants are the reason people can’t get GP appointments meanwhile at least half my med school are kids of immigrants like me or are immigrants themselves so bye bye from your future doctors I guess x
“Can’t be a pause as PAs can’t find jobs currently” MATE I’M SPENDING 7 YEARS IN UNI FOR AN EXTREMELY HIGH CHANCE OF UNEMPLOYMENT AND 0 CAREER PROGRESSION ???
To clarify:
The
@RCPhysicians
registrar said “there can’t be a pause as PAs can’t find jobs currently….and this would lead to issues”
In a time when thousands of medical doctors have been artificially prevented from entering training posts
It’s clear where RCP priorities are
I’m a third year med student who doesn’t have paeds teaching til next year and barely knows what to do with well children let alone unwell children
So how a PA who has had the same amount of paeds training as me and is allowed to see patients alone while I’m not is baffling
An anonymous source has revealed Barts and QMUL Medical Schools actively recruit Physician Associates as examiners for OSCEs, it seems Aston University isn’t alone in its madness.
If a consultant I was working under praised me like this on socials, I would be grinning from ear to ear and my face would be like 🥺🥺🥺 for multiple hours
Shoutout to the legend consultants out there, I hope I can make you guys proud one day 🫡
One of best weeks at work since becoming a consultant:
1) IMT3 gets first pericardial drain in, textbook style.
2) Excellent angio list with ST5.
3) Bright IMT1 in clinic & wants to do cardiology.
4) Former IMT1 submits first author review article to prestigious journal.
Bruh I’m not going through 7 years of uni to be talked about like my chocolate lab who was deemed untrainable by the headmistress of his dog training school purely because of his coat colour LMAO
@ayesha_a9
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again!!! In what world is it appropriate to post a DEATH CERTIFICATE on your TikTok??? The answer? None!!! Such an insensitive thing to do
Not my greatest BeReal LOL but a fond farewell to King George Hospital. It’s been a blast and I leave having miraculously wrapped my head around endocrine. Probably spent way too much time laughing with my consultant but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Until next time 🫡🫡🫡
LMAO throwback to the 12-15 lectures I had a week + anatomy and physiology labs including dissection + GP/hospital Thursdays + PBL on grad med last year
@JoshuaSoane
my thoughts and prayers to you in this trying time
So this is the "intense course" in PA Studies that physician associates claim equates to studying medicine in 2 years instead of 5.
Monday - PBL + a lecture.
Tuesday - GP clinic.
Wednesday - teaching in the afternoon, morning free.
Thursday - PBL.
Friday - day off.
@HartlandJoseph
My concern as a med student is someone who could lack competency in the skill I’m being assessed in because of their training and background as a PA will be examining me and be the judge of my own competency, do you have any advice on this?
So let me get this straight
PA, with 0 qualifications for the job, rocking up and working as a PA: cool
Me, a 16 year old looking med student, rocking up and pretending to be a consultant despite having theoretically more relevant training: not cool
???
Amazing
There is a PA currently employed by
@AiredaleNHSFT
who has not passed any national exams
Can you imagine the reaction if a medical student without regulation, registration or qualifications was quietly employed by a Trust to be a doctor?
Assuming I can announce this unless a small number of people unfollow, thank you so much for 200 followers!!! Never thought my silly med related ramblings would bring that many people together and hopefully lots of laughs too. Here’s to a brighter future 🫡🫡🫡
Also!!! This is Bruno, the crazy chocolate lab in question!!! I say crazy but HE WAS STILL A GOODEST BOY. He’s my cuddly childhood brown bear who’s been in heaven for a few years now. I still miss him lots - I hope he’s doing good up there <3
Bruh I’m not going through 7 years of uni to be talked about like my chocolate lab who was deemed untrainable by the headmistress of his dog training school purely because of his coat colour LMAO
What tips do people have in terms of dealing with the transition when rotating? I honestly just hate dealing with change and that’s been massively throwing me off on placement in a completely new hospital and ward :(
@doctor_dru_
PBL was one of the worst things I ever had to do and I honestly believe none of the stuff I did has been useful to me in clinical years. I know people in my uni will disagree but I said what I said. Just used ChatGPT for it by the end of the year because it was a waste of time
Not my old uni’s grad photo company randomly messaging me saying I can still buy my grad photos from last Summer 😭😭😭 it’s a shame it’s an extortionate fee for this beauty (screenshotted off the website hence the awful quality)
OH GOD HI NEW PEOPLE I didn’t realise my cannula tweet would get that much clout LOL but welcome to my little hellhole where I try and survive med school and beyond, hope you enjoy xxx
Good morning from myself and this handsome little man!!! It’s my last day of placement today which I’m genuinely sad about so hopefully I have a good day
I await the day if/when I become a doctor where I accidentally default to being a med student and say “sorry I’m not a doctor” when I AM the doctor 🤡🤡🤡
@DrGoblin3
Bro has a better stethoscope than me and I’m literally training to become an actual doctor (and that is NOT because it’s sky blue for Man City before someone comes at me 😤😤😤)
The comments section really making me regret my life choices now 🤩🤩🤩 awaiting the day I’m told I don’t speak English well even though it’s my first language and to go back to where I came from as though I don’t still live in the same county I was born in 😍😍😍
The nurse who triaged me? Black.
The doctor who admitted me to hospital? Egyptian.
The nurses who have looked after me
since? Indian.
The doctor looking after me currently? Also Indian.
Not white. Not british.
But all wonderful.
And human.
And that’s what matters ❤️
Been mistaken for a doctor three separate times today, I’ll take it as a compliment - especially from the nurse who was certain I was a doctor because she said I was really well spoken on the ward round 🥺🥺🥺
@Parody_RCGP
I feel GICs should have a system where they prescribe because they’re the specialists and it’s unfair putting GPs in a difficult position with meds they aren’t familiar with. I get GICs are under strain but so are you guys and patients shouldn’t have to be caught in the middle
Homeopathy, computer science, English literature...
Ex PA President: "We are taking those people who are smart, who have the academic capability of learning medicine in 2 years"
Make it make sense 🤷♀️
@ellorakamineni
Sending my love to you and the rest of your year group, 64 reacts to that message speaks volumes and I’m sorry for how this has panned out for you guys, you deserve so much better
Didn’t have enough med student and doctor friends. Also wanted to share the top tier med themed comedy floating around in my brain to the world in an attempt to make it a better place
Why did you start your twitter account?
I started as an outlet for my political rantings to give my Facebook friends and family a break. Now it’s morphed into a little bit of everything.
Aware my selfies really annoy some people
Soz about that
In other news?
It’s Saturday night
And after a long time?
I am going “Out Out”
Yeah kids, 50 year olds can party too 😎
Med school apps falling 20%… absolutely criminal that. Honestly feel like I am setting aspiring medics up for failure when I help with their applications because what is the point anymore
Medical School Applications fall by 20%
Junior Doctors not moving on to higher training ~40%
Younger GPs leaving ~25%
Unemployed Drs
World outside Medicine in 🏴 is much more attractive to the bright & talented
Under a different Govt pay agenda Drs would be staying in the

Ok uhhhh MedTwitter is looking bleak so I’m sharing a picture of my Darby Digger carvery from earlier. Had more potatoes later as they are banging but my plate was full
Also please do not judge the amount of apple and cranberry sauce I added, I have a sugar problem!!!
It has been decided after med school that due to the presence of funky animals and training bottlenecks that I will be hopping through interesting places in the UK for the rest of my career
Are you tired and burnt out by the NHS?
Looking for a FY3 + job?
DO YOU WANT TO ACTUALLY SEE PUFFINS?
Come to the hospital that covers John O'Groats. We need clinical fellows.
Puffins can be seen from April to August.
DM me for an informal chat
I can’t lie I was NOT a fan of grammar school on the academic side but I really owe it to them for the opportunities I got in terms of developing my musical talent. Music at school made me into the person I am today and not once did I feel disadvantaged to fee paying students
I’ve signed this as a British Born Chinese woman in appreciation of how this scheme helped the Hong Kongers who fled their homeland due to the political situation there and settled in the UK.
You can call for the government to do the same for Palestinians by signing below
URGENT🚨
We only have 30 days remaining until the Govt Petition to initiate a Palestinian Visa Scheme, akin to Ukraine & Hong Kong expires.
We HAVE to reach 100K signatures to be debated in the commons
We must show the Public Will for this. Sign & Share
Having seen the sad news circulating on
#MedTwitter
, I wanted to express my condolences. I’m new here so did not know the person but that doesn’t change the impact they had.
Please look out for each other - you could literally save a life. My DMs are open to anyone in need <3
@ayesha_a9
That’s 1 second too many, the fact a whole doctor has that little consideration for their patient at the expense of their TikTok clout is disgusting
Night 2/3 ✅
Unfortunately my immune system has taken an L once more and I’ve had to fight through a cold for this show but I think I’ve managed
This night was filmed so will drop the link to any interested parties when it’s up 👀👀👀
Decided to open oriel and check out the jobs so I can start preferencing them and half of them say location is “to be confirmed”. What sort of fresh hell… how am I supposed to rank this now? Absolute carnage
#UKFPO
@mouseter_chef
Obviously pay is a problem but I’m personally more worried about LTWP because I feel like that’s going to have huge long term consequences on my career prospects. It just feels pretty hopeless knowing I’m training in med school now but what for in terms of my future
Attempted to hide identities as much as pos. Sent this and found it too damning not to share.
PT presents around 3pm. A doctor doesn’t appear to be contacted for support or help, and instead a Facebook group of PAs (PAAUK) consulted instead. PT in HB sent to a&e not until 6pm.
You’d assume this was a traditional end of year Barts fountain pic and I was smiling because exams were over. I guess that’s true but behind the smile was months of believing life wasn’t worth living and disordered eating.
I’m proud I made it to 2024. Here’s to a better year <3
Night 3/3 ✅
And that’s a wrap!!! Thank you to everyone who supported the show. Making my stage debut has been one of the most challenging things I’ve ever done so I’m super grateful for all the kind comments I got at the end last night.
GO GREASED LIGHTNING!!! ⚡️⚡️⚡️
Watch me miraculously get an East London FY job in a couple years and still have to commute from Essex to get there (and no I don’t even live in the Essex/London limbo or within Oyster zone)
I’m not even sure how to approach applying for FY anymore because I was like maybe I’ll apply for London top as the region’s smaller than NW or York so if I get somewhere in the region I don’t like then oh well but now do I gun for FPP in Essex? Return to Stoke? Who knows
I discovered I’ve had the account for just over 2 months now. Accidentally generated a few hit tweets, only got told to shut up once along the way and made a bunch of new medic friends as I always aimed to do when making this account so thank you all for your support <3
Notice how you guys know I love placement but know this even though I haven’t mentioned anything I’ve personally done or seen. I’m not saying you can’t enjoy placement but the lack of tact behind these stories is shocking
@DrEilidhMaria
First year grad med was undoubtedly the worst year of my life lol people say getting in is the hard part but I still don’t know how I passed. I have a first class pharmacy Bachelors and that wasn’t enough to prepare me for what was to come
Me explaining to my Mum how I’m the least stable adult out of my old uni mates because I have no rizz and no geographical stability after I finish med school 😎😎😎
Me: I can’t believe it’s my last week on placement :(
Mum: Ah well, you’ll always have last weeks at places
Me: Yeah but some last weeks are “I can’t wait to never return to this place” last weeks and this one isn’t one of those :(
Mum: Let’s hope they let you back in then
@heeps8273
Absolutely!!! Trust that I’m not going to be happy if I get failed on a competency by someone who has never once been assessed to be competent at 🤷♀️
Not only did I have to move my WFH station to the FLOOR so Bud could be carried but Bud also decided to demand belly rubs in the process. What a spoilt boy. I still love him
@ Barts students!!!
My mate Arianne and I are running to be your BL LGBT+ reps for 2024/25 and we would really appreciate your support! Our manifesto will be available tomorrow and voting opens on 26th Feb. We hope you’ll look forward to what we have in store next year 👀🌈
Yesterday was my last day at Homerton for my first ever hospital placement as a med student. It’s been an absolute blast and goodbyes are never easy. There’s been good points and not so good ones but I suppose they’ve all shaped who I am 8 weeks later.
Until next time 🫡
Idk if this is a hot take but only a QUARTER?!?! My Dad made me get a job at 16 because he was like it’s so so important to learn how to deal with people and tbh I’ve never been so thankful. Working since this age has helped me so much on placement and it shows
Figures show a quarter of 16 and 17-year-olds have a part-time job such as waiting tables. Some say workplace experience builds resilience and sets them up for their working life while others say it's cruel alongside school work.
Should part-time jobs be mandatory for…
