4 weeks ago I got back off holiday and decided to make healthier choices. I’ve tracked my food and committed to running/gym. I’m already 6 kg lighter, my VO2 Max is up by 2, and I ran a 5km personal best after a spin class this morning! (And 16 kg less since NYE!) Happy 😊

I often see 20+ patients in a 9 hour shift. I can be seeing/managing 5+ at once. The registrar and nurse in charge of the department can be responsible for ensuring safety of 150+ patients in one go on a busy night shift. GPs will have 1000s on their books. Log off.

A doctor has 1 life to deal with, a graduate engineer (like I was) - we had hundreds. Transporting explosives to blow up old buildings? Predicting ground movements to the closest mm (which I did)? If we got it wrong, countless lives would have been lost.

I’m sick of trying to speak to specialists for advice and getting punted away for being too junior. I had an unwell patient tonight and I phoned a colleague to ask for their help and expert opinion with the case. The on-call Loose Women panellist wouldn’t even take the call!

Kept this under wraps so I could get through the EM conference, but the last few months have shown me the sort of lifestyle anaesthetics can offer and I’ve taken the plunge. It means taking a couple of steps back to CT1 but it’s the right thing for me - can’t wait to start ☺️!

Despite having learned it 7+ times I couldn’t tell you what the clotting cascade is, however apparently I know every single word to Tenacious D’s ‘Tribute’ having not heard it for approximately 15 years. Why are brains like this?

Recently went to my own A&E as a patient because I thought I might have had a pulmonary embolism. Turns out I just had a devastating disease called “a bad cold”. I just think it’s important to share that even the most perfect of clinicians can be fallible 🙏 all human xxx
