@Independent_ie It is not age appropriate for primary school. We have age restrictions on the movies and most of us agree with them. When children grow up some more they will know. Nobody told me about it in school, and I have not missed anything in my education quality.

I'm an adult woman & if something like this happened to me, I'd be absolutely traumatised. The frightening reality is that this is a reality for many minority youths, esp black & brown and I hate having to make that distinction but that's the horrific truth

I was reported as " aggressive and confrontational" for asking an employee of a community organisation what services they provide & if Travellers could engage indepently of me. They stated their "heart was racing" because I wrote down the information

The first time I worked with ex-prisoners a man said to me "Anne Marie, you haven't a clue" and I responded "I know yeah, please teach me" 🥺 Very few people rehabilitate within the prison system. They survive a cycle of poverty, trauma, homelessness

One of my most memorable experiences of empowerment as a student was the first day I heard the fearless @HannaghMc speak in a lecture hall . I had to fight back tears as it was the first time I was in a formal education setting with a Traveller lecturer.

I'm not affiliated with any political party. Sometimes I regret it but to see people (particularly from Limerick) that I once respected, immediately politicise a young persons trauma rather than show sincere empathy reminds me why I disengaged. Do better.

@JamesMFKearney Correct. Halting sites are not a part of Traveller culture, it's a racist element of assimilation policy designed to deter and destroy our culture. We were othered, which made it easier for society to turn a blind eye. Direct provision is a similar model.
