No life is worth more than another, we should have long since ceased diplomatic ties with Israel for the barbarism they’ve inflicted upon Gaza, but surely now, when an Irish Aid worker has been murdered by the IDF, we must now summon & expel their Ambassador to Ireland. Enough.
Imagine having the means to provide 10,000 meals to “help kids without food”, and determining whether you provide that help, or not- on an outcome of chance.
Absolute psychopaths.
Can you imagine being a school teacher looking in at the Dáil right now?
Suspected case in a school, “Carry on as you are 👍
Suspected case at a cabinet meeting held at Dublin Castle.. SUSPEND the entire Parliament!!! 😕
Ridiculous.
So far, 18 people in mandatory hotel quarantine have tested positive for Covid, of which, 4 of those had “variants of concern.”
Variants are a threat to any hope we have for a pathway out of this pandemic.
Stopping them at the point of entry is vital to our society.
Despite opposition from survivors, from those who’s lives are still impacted by the legacy of Mother & Baby Homes, from Human Rights lawyers, the Bill has passed. I’m so sorry to all those impacted by this travesty.

€895,000 does not tick a box for many young professionals in this city. The Irish Times repeating its fetishisation of a dysfunctional housing market that it was a cheerleader for during the boom.

An enormous welcome to every single person who shall now call Ireland Home. I hope in our small Island they find a place of sanctuary, a place to build a better life for they and their families; I hope they help make ours a better Republic. 🇮🇪💜
Ireland must demand an end to Israel's apartheid against Palestinians.
This is not about phraseology.
It is a matter of law and international law is clear.
In a debate on health and education in the Dáil, the Minister for education has just left the chamber after 30 minutes and before opposition statements have concluded.

What occurred outside Leo Varadkar’s house today was nothing short of vile. Blatant homophobia has no place in our Republic and should be confronted wherever it occurs.
20 Palestinians including 9 children were killed today by Israeli air strikes. There is no place for equivocation or “both sides” comparisons here. Ireland should condemn these brutal atrocities on the Palestinian people and unambiguously 1/2
Rockets are never the answer! I condemn the firing of rockets into Israel.
What’s needed is strong engagement by the Int. community with Israeli & Palestinian Authorities, with int. law & agreed UN resolutions as the basis.

There’s an annoying lack of ambition, or self confidence around our vaccination programme. Germany are building vaccination centres, the UK started over a week ago. We have two boxes carried on a forklift to great fanfare lying in a warehouse for 4 days...
Leo Varadkar “doesn’t know” why we received vaccines yesterday but aren’t administering them until Wednesday - but tells me

that Ireland “will catch up” with other countries when other vaccines are cleared for use.
Dublin can have a food market like the one in Lisbon.. We just have unelected city officials who’ve displayed no urgency or vision to make it happen.
We have the infrastructure. We have a city crying out for one.. But we have a city management who seem caught in a malaise.
I’ve written to the Garda Chief Superintendent asking for the legal basis on which the Gardaí were aiding an eviction without court order in Phibsborough last night. I’ll update once a response is received.
Hey folks,
A couple of things... Firstly, we in the SocDems won’t in any way be involved in a coalition involving a combination of Fine Gael & Fianna Fáil together.
I respect the mandate of all parties, but that coalition won’t be one that we will have any part in.

A pathetic, spineless man. The bar is low and the man is meaningless in the grand scheme of things, but all he had to say, was to call for a halt to the killings of children and innocents. History will remember these cheerleaders of genocide.

Sending all my love & solidarity to our trans community who have once again today had to endure their very existence being debated. The Church should have no role in what students are taught in Irish schools. If a referendum is needed to assert that right, let’s have it.
A young trans student has hit out at comments made by Catholic church school authorities that primary school pupils should not be taught about "what it means to be trans"
It’s shameful that two Irish MEPs, Mick Wallace & Clare Daly were among only 13 members of the European Parliament to vote against condemning the Russian invasion of Ukraine. I hope it is clear that this reprehensible decision was taken not in the name of the Irish people.
The European Parliament has voted overwhelmingly in favour of the resolution to condemn Russian aggression against Ukraine, after an emotional session in which President Zelenskiy addressed the chamber by video link.

A person with more power than any other in the city of Dublin, who will never have to face an electorate or be accountable for the shambles he is presiding over.
DCC CEO Owen Keegan’s innovative solution to the housing crisis is…. Students’ Unions becoming property developers.

Desperately searching for meaningful ways to help the Afghan people trying to flee this terror.
In the first instance, we should immediately rescind ~50 deportation orders on all Afghani nationals in Ireland. No decent democracy would return a person who had fled this hell.
Pathetic. Scaremongering people into voting based on “red scare” tactics. There’s no way you’d come out of this type of post feeling good about yourself really.
I’m not going to share the photo, but the person who defaced the Luke Kelly statue is an absolute prick. If you know this person, if you egged them on, or are now laughing at their behaviour, then you too are a complete prick.
Between 1922 and 1998, nine thousand children died in a war of morality that was perpetuated on society by the Catholic Church in collusion with the Irish State. This Archbishop doesn’t want his church to be scapegoated, many more wonder why they aren’t being prosecuted.
A regressive, small minded decision taking against international best practice. In the absence of a Safe Injection Facility, we shall just continue with the non-safe facilities that are our cities laneways, parks, & toilets. Hard to see this as anything but moral cowardice by DCC
This is so disheartening. Of course left over vaccines should be distributed quickly, but how this school was decided above other groups, or even patients in the hospital needs answering. Vaccine privileging will destroy the public mood at a time when spirits are already so low.
I’m furious that two years into a global pandemic, our ineffective government/ minister have rendered yet again the debate around the safety of our school community has one solely focused on whether buildings should be opened or closed. /1
It’s still flabbergasting that anyone looks at Donald Trump and thinks to themselves, ‘that’s the guy I’d like to lead us..’

Dublin City Council have today updated local councillors on their revised plans for the site of the Magdalene Laundry on Sean McDermott St.
It’s hard to walk through the Markets area and not feel a little sad that these doors remain closed..With a little vision, and an increased urgency, this could be a city market that could rejuvenate the Northside of the city.
There’s a day coming, it’s a little bit distant but there’ll be an occasion & you’ll see a friend, not someone you love or a family member- just a person you’ve always been fond of & you’ll be hesitant at first, but you’ll shake hands or hug & it’s going to be just pure majestic.

Far right activist Gavin Pepper turned up at the High Court today to attack the opposition (again).

Either he's a landlord or a liar. Landlords do seem to stick together…
The manner in which schools were reopened, without any increased ventilation, uniform mask wearing, appropriate social distancing guidelines, test and trace capacity, has led to an increase in cases amongst children & young people.
This is a dire failure of the government.
An FOI request I made showed that the Minister for Education's first consideration after learning about the errors in the LC calculated grades system was self-preservation & spin
Parents will need certainty this week, and it has become clear that on these numbers, opening schools with the virus raging, and a new variant that is likely more transmissible by and from children, would be highly irresponsible. Government need to be decisive from tomorrow.
Donald Trump will be to twitter what my Ma is to Facebook.. not in possession of an account but absolutely obsessed with what everyone is saying on it. 🤦♂️
This is a colossal failure of leadership on the part of Ministers Foley & Madigan. Politics for the purpose of press release has destroyed relations with all stakeholders. Students deserve better, workers deserve better. This failure is on government- no one else.

This disgusting and escalating form of intimidation cannot be normalised or facilitated any longer. I am baffled that the Garda Commissioner and the Justice Minister appear so blind to inevitability of where their hands off approach to these thugs is going to lead us.
Masked men harass Minister Roderic O'Gorman by covering his home in unfounded propaganda banners this evening. And it appears stopping a car in his street. Is this where we are now? Is your home no longer a safe space? Where will this end?
THREAD 1/15. I think it is important to be clear about what the Mother and Baby Home's Bill does and does not do. The Bill does not seal the archive of the Mother and Baby Home Commission.
Wishing Minister Donnelly a speedy recovery. It is essential that we all follow public health guidelines but the contrast between how members of the Dáil are treated and what we expect of our educators when there is a confirmed case in a school is too stark not to highlight
Maybe if childcare fees weren’t +€600 a month: if the average Dublin rent wasn’t close to €1,700 a month.. If the deposit required wasn’t over €30,000. We cannot redefine affordable because it suits a particular type of person.
Quizzed about the price of O'Devaney Garden houses, Minister Eoghan Murphy said the majority of homes on the site are less than €310,000 which 'is affordable for people on the average industrial wage'
