Ireland is now officially the most expensive country in the EU.
Prices here are 40% above the EU average. Rip-off Republic alive and well under FF, FG & Greens.
We need a cost of living revolt like we saw with the water charges uprising.
Horrified by conditions in mandatory quarantine?
Wait till you hear about direct provision and children living in hotel rooms because they're homeless.
Many petrol stations seem to be hiking up fuel prices 15c today - so they can claim to reduce them 15c tomorrow when the excise cut comes in.
This means they plan to pocket the excise duty cut and make bumper profits.
This is profiteering - we need price controls now.
"I paid €50 for 20 face masks in a chemist. The price on the pack was €20...We had no choice but to get them because my wife has terminal cancer so we're being careful."
One of the hundreds of people hit by profiteering taking place.
We need price controls now.
Last night we stood to applaud our incredible frontline workers. To help further we will:
Pay student nurses ✅
Secure PPE (arriving Sunday)✅
Hire more staff ✅
Open more beds✅
Follow public health advice ✅

Far right protesters outside our home on Sat night while we're putting our baby in bath.
They have a sign about Irish homeless but I bet none have helped anyone fight their eviction.
They don't care about children or homeless. They just want to spread hate and division.
Today SSE Airtricity announced a 24% increase in the price of their '100% green' electricity. The cost of wind has not gone up.
On Tuesday SSE announced earnings for the last year will be up to 17% higher than expected.
This is pure war profiteering. We need price controls.
This man (who called himself Joseph Attley) came up to our
@pb4p
pro-choice stall today and told me he would slit my wife's throat before the end of the week.
These are the people who claim to be "protecting women".
Supermacs millionaire Pat McDonagh says the €350 support for those who lost their jobs due to Covid should be cut
He says that'll make it easier for him to get workers to work for €200 a week.
Maybe he should consider paying a living wage and providing proper PPE to staff?
The Beacon CEO also broke the travel rules to participate in a rally race in Britain.
Golfgate, vaccines, travel... The rules really are just for the "little people" aren't they?
Welcome to the world Juniper Hampton Murphy.
@jdubspear
and Juniper are healthy and doing well.
Thanks to all of the staff at the Coombe who have made it a great experience.
A pretty great day all around. 😊
Massive crowd at the Dáil demanding we

Next step is to get tens of thousands out this Saturday at 1pm, Garden of Remembrance.
We need people from all around the country traveling up!

When Phil Hogan resigned he got almost €300,000 in a 'transition allowance', and an EU pension of €58,000 a year from 66.
This is on top of his Dail and Ministerial pension of €61,000 a year he can also get.
How much public money does this guy think he is entitled to?
Darragh O’Brien, the minister for housing, has said that he is angered by the sale of 46 homes in a Dublin housing estate to an investment fund and that the rate of stamp duty paid by investors that bulk-buy property “needs to be reviewed”
Asked the Taoiseach whether he would be willing to live on €350 a week, given that he thinks the PUP should be cut. He gave the same answer as when I asked Varadkar - No answer at all.
Supermacs millionaire Pat McDonagh asked for the €350 to be cut to make it easier for him to pay poverty wages.
A week later FG did just that.
Once again the rich say jump, and the right-wing say how high. The result will be plunging many people into poverty.
Ireland MUST act! We must force the government to act.
✊We MUST stand against genocide!
✊We MUST stand against ethnic cleansing!
✊We MUST stand against apartheid!
✊We MUST expel the Israeli ambassador and embassy, who continues to tell lies!

Energia announced 3 price increases in 6 months last year, up to September.
In those same 6 months, they made an operating profit of €131.8m, a 51% increase year-on-year.
The problem is not inflation. The problem is corporate greed, profiteering and a lack of price controls.
It’s telling that basically the only things we’re now allowed to do is work and consume. It really is the only way capitalist ideologues know how to deal with crises.
You know all that terrible stuff that priest was saying?
Well, I've bad news for you.
His church controls the vast majority of our schools and lots of our hospitals.
Time to separate church and state.
No matter how frustrated you are, please don't join the anti-lockdown protests today.
The far-right is at the core of these events. They cynically abuse people's anger.
They aim to drag Ireland backwards. They oppose democratic rights and want brutal oppression.
#NotInMyName
Let's be clear. €350 a week is €8.75 an hour for a 40 hour week. Ireland is a horrendously low pay economy with a high amount of precarious work. Leo wants to distract from that by reviving the latest iteration of his vile "welfare cheats" campaign. €350 should be a minimum!
The Taoiseach
@LeoVaradkar
told
@BreakfastNT
that it’s “not fair” and “not sustainable” that nearly 40% of people on the
#COVID
-19 payment are better off than they were when they were working.
The government give €88m a year to the Horse & Greyhound Racing industry.
They only give €30m to refuges for victims of domestic violence.
Let that sink in: They give a gambling industry almost three times more money than refuges.
TD's are set to get yet ANOTHER pay rise next month.
They already get over €100k - well above the average worker. I don't take this bloated salary; PBP TDs take only a workers wage.
It's time to cut TDs wages, tie the TDs income to the average income of ordinary workers.
In the background of the
#golfgate
story is an illustration of how power works and the capitalist class rule.
Who was at this "Oireachtas Golf Society" dinner? A senior Minister, a European Commissioner, the senior banking lobbyist, a leading judge, a former leading broadcaster.
Now that Israel has bombed a hospital, do Palestinians get world leaders arriving to tell them they have the right to defend themselves?
When exactly does this part kick in?
A Hamas terrorist cell was identified using an ambulance. In response, an IDF aircraft struck and neutralized the Hamas terrorists, who were operating within the ambulance.
We emphasize that this area in Gaza is a war zone. Civilians are repeatedly called upon to evacuate…
He not only refused to join case, he even cast doubt on it being genocide.
The Irish govt looks ok on international stage because of how horrendously bad most western govts are.
But the Irish government has refused to take any meaningful action to stop genocide. It's shameful.
Israeli goods taken off the shelves in Lidl in Tallaght. These should not be for sale.
Will be continuing to target and protest
@lidl_ireland
until they stop stocking Israeli products.

"Living with Covid" = 6 months lockdown with three weeks of opening in the middle to satisfy business lobbying and which kills 1,500 people.
Yet somehow
#ZeroCovid
can be portrayed by the government as a plan for long lockdowns. 🙄
Not only has the government not expelled the Israeli ambassador, Fianna Fáil actually had her at their Ard Fheis today.
This is an insult to everybody who opposes Israel's genocidal attack on Gaza.
Very disappointing to see NPHET recommend that mask wearing in retail, public transport and schools becomes optional.
The workers in those settings have no option about whether they go to work.
Their unions have been clear that they wanted masks to continue.
So the responsibility for Mother & Baby Homes lies with society at large, rather than the church which operated them and the state which supported them?
The parallel with the avoidance of responsibility for the current crisis we face with the pandemic is unmistakable.
Leo Varadkar admitted to me in Committee that if we ratify CETA, the Candian company which owns IRES REIT could sue the Irish state in a special investor court system if we introduce further rent controls.
If that's not a reason to reject CETA, I don't know what is.
What a powerful response to the attempts to spread division and hate.
There are enough resources in this country for everyone to have a decent home, job and services and welcome refugees. We need to unite against those who currently hoard that wealth.
#IrelandForAll
Why is RTE showing four hours of coronation coverage on Saturday?
The monarchy should be abolished - not celebrated.
£100 million is being spent on this exercise in rehabilitation when 4 million children in Britain are in food poverty.
€150 for a pack of face masks? That is pure greed.
We all have a family member who is at risk from the Corona Virus. They deserve better than to be ripped off like this.
We need to stop those trying to make a quick buck from panic and fear. We need price controls now.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant:
"I have ordered a complete siege on the Gaza Strip. There will be no electricity, no food, no fuel, everything is closed. We are fighting human animals and we act accordingly."
The absolute best thing that could come out of the Beacon scandal is a concerted mass campaign to end private healthcare and education.
Nationalise the private hospitals and build a National Health Service.
Stop giving public money to private schools.
The decision on the next Taoiseach should not be made by the Fine Gael parliamentary party.
The people should have the right to decide.
We need a general election.
Supermac's millionaire Pat McDonagh has been very vocal criticising the PUP.
But the McDonagh group made €20m profit last year, while getting huge handouts from the state in Covid subsidies.
They should repay the taxpayer so the money can go to those who really need it.
Govt: Over 90% of people support mandatory quarantine. We better do something. Please do up a list of countries.
Public Health team: Here's where Covid is rampant.
Govt: No, no, no, we need a long list of small, non-powerful, and overwhelmingly non white countries.

Time to give workers a break
Massive turnout in support of Palestine in Dublin today🇵🇸
Tens of thousands on the streets demanding an end to the siege and occupation!
We need to force the government:
👉Expel the Israeli Ambassador to Ireland!
👉Call for the resignation of EU President Ursula von der Leyen!
I presume everyone who condemned Sabina Higgins will now be queueing up to condemn Simon Coveney for calling for de-escalation on both the Israeli and Palestinian side.
Poor Tommy Robinson.
Came to Ireland to share notes with his far-right mates about how to spread hatred and fears of refugees.
Instead, he gets to witness a massive demonstration showing how the vast majority of people reject his politics.
#IrelandForAll
Leo Varadkar doesn't think elderly ppl or kids are the State's responsibility. He will take care of his own family. And if ur on less than 200k a year, that's just tough turtles for u, peasant. Shud have thought of ur family before u decided to be poor.
What. A. Piece. Of. Sh*t.
Three Ukrainian refugees were evicted from a hotel in Citywest this morning. Currently homeless.
Their "crime"?
Representing the other Ukrainian families in discussions with management for appropriate food because the children are getting sick because of an inadequate diet.
During a cost of living crisis, the government announced a 50% increase in military spending.
Rather than spending €500m more on fighter jets and missiles, we could:
🏘️Build homes for 2,000 families €430m
👨⚕️ Employ 1,000 extra nurses €52m
🏥 Abolish A&E charges €20m
Welfare or Warfare?
For €2bn we could:
✔️ Scrap all college fees
✔️ Provide free school meals in primary & secondary school
✔️ Make public transport free nationwide
✔️ Increase the basic pay rate for defence force personel
Or we could waste on warships and fighter jets.
Crap wording, crap campaign, crap government.
This is the result.
Left parties should commit to proposing a referendum recognising and supporting care inside and outside of the home and the rights of people with disabilities.
The idea that Coveney had to delete Zappone texts from his phone to free up data is ridiculous.
Leo Varadkar also had conveniently deleted texts with Maitiu O'Tuathail.
Surely texts to and from Ministers should be covered by same FOI and data record requirements as emails?
A very welcome change of position from Sinn Féin here.
"The position of the Israeli Ambassador to Ireland is now untenable..."
I hope we can work with Sinn Féin to propose a motion to the Dáil to expel the Israeli ambassador.
Incredible graph in
@FT
.
Israel is deliberately making Gaza unlivable.
Words of criticism by the Irish government are not enough.
We need action.
Expel the Israeli ambassador.
Impose sanctions on Israel.
Join South African case about Israeli genocide.
The more I cringe about this, the more perfect I realise it is.
It encapsulates the nationalism of part the ruling class in Ireland - one where the national flag, anthem and game are all replaced.
It's a nationalism without anti-colonial struggle.
There's a PhD in this clip.
I'm sick of people saying minimum wage workers are just young people earning some extra 'pocket money' for the weekend.
68% of minimum wage workers are full time. 90% are in permanent positions.
These are workers trying to earn a living. They deserve a raise.
#FightFor15
@ThomasByrneTD
Are you not opposing gas from Russia because of its imperialist invasion and occupation of Ukraine?
Why then should we turn a blind eye to the imperialist occupation of Palestine by Israel?
Is it because Ukrainians are white Europeans?
Is it because Israel is a US ally?
#Breaking
The Israeli foreign minister says he has summoned the Irish ambassador in Tel Aviv "for a reprimand" following Taoiseach Leo Varadkar's remarks on the release of Emily Hand
How did Gardaí end up ‘guarding’ ATMs to cover up for an error by Bank of Ireland? They seem to have effectively been acting as private security for a bank.
Can those who are getting ripped off by banks on their mortgages get the Gardaí on the case?
There are lots of genuine concerns rooted in lack of investment in housing and community.
"Unvetted males" is not one of them.
There are "unvetted males" living everywhere. I'm an unvetted male.
It's a racist trope of far right to stir up hatred against black and brown men.
Since Putin's brutal invasion of Ukraine, the right of an occupied nation to defend itself has been widely recognised.
Now as Israel begins to unleash hell on Gaza and governments prepare to excuse Israeli war crimes, it's clear that right doesn't apply to Palestinians. Why not?
Thinking of the thousands going back to work tomorrow, many for the first time since the pandemic began. Thank you for all you’ve done to keep people safe over the past 18mths, your efforts have saved lives. All the best for tomorrow
All Irish acts have now pulled out of SXSW in solidarity with Palestine and in opposition to the military industrial complex which sponsors the festival.
Yet Green Minister for Arts Catherine Martin will participate.
This is nothing short of shameful.
With confirmation that govt estimates it will pay €115 million a month to private hospitals for 2,600 beds (€44,000 per bed), question must be asked how come the NHS is only paying £72m for 8,000 beds (approx €10,000 / bed)? Why Irish govt paying four times the price per bed?
The government is about to give massive pay increases to the wealthiest 1% of public sector workers
4,000 people on over €150,000/year already are to get 10% or 15% more.
Tens of millions of euros that won't be spent tackling the cost of living & housing crisis. Disgusting.
If you're attacking people living in tents, you can't really pretend that the reason you're doing it is they're taking accommodation away from homeless Irish people can you?
One year ago today a woman was brutally stabbed in Dublin on her way home from work as a cleaner. She later died from her wounds.
She is one of 245 women killed by men in this state since 1996.
This is why we fight against misogyny in all its forms.
RIP Urantsetseg Tserendorj
We should all continue to wear maks in crowded settings like bus, shops and schools.
Many older or vulnerable people are still at risk, and they shouldn't be shut out of society.
Many workers have no choice but to work in crowded settings. Wearing a mask is the least we can do.
Young people: Can we have price controls on rent, so we can afford a roof over our heads?
Government: We will do price controls on alcohol instead.
Young people: Ok... What does this mean?
Government: Cans for the weekend will now be twice as expensive. You're welcome.
On the same day that the Taoiseach denied vociferously the government represents landlords, it emerges that his party's candidate in the by-election ran a "Diary of a Dublin Landlady" blog.
They don't do a great job of hiding it do they?
Want to know the back story to Gino Kenny's top in the Dail?
It's a cycling top. He cycles in and out from Clondalkin every day.
When in Convention Centre, we don't have permanent offices where you can leave clothes.
It's why I never have a suit jacket on in Convention Centre.
All those in Ireland who support the Palestinians should be raising the call to expel the Israeli ambassador.
It would have an important impact around the world in demonstrating that "Europe" does not stand with Israel’s genocide.
The cutting off of all communications in Gaza tonight is designed to hide the heinous crimes being committed by the Israeli military.
This is genocide.
We need to be on the streets tomorrow to oppose it.
A couple of months after discovering how bad cuckoo funds were, the government all vote to give them a tax break to buy up homes and lease them to Councils.
