Dublin's avg rent is now €1,916 per month. You need to be earning €115,000 a year (in top 5% of earners) to 'afford' this rent (i.e. be less than a third of your net income). And 1916 is the rent? 1916? A message from the Easter Rising 1916: Don't take this any more renters!

There's something deeply deeply disturbing that Irish homes are now traded on global stock markets - as commodities like stocks & shares. As more people have to rent- rents rise -profits rise -share prices rise. Purpose of housing warped into maximising shareholder returns

60% of take home pay for a person on €40k is €1,600. Look, I'm not saying the rents out there are acceptable, they're not. But the vast majority of renters are sharing with others. I always shared when renting. Divide by two and % of income is 30%, not 60%. @RoryHearne

Why are house prices so high? Because private developers make huge profits off homebuyers. Glenveagh made 47mil in profit in 2021. 41,000 profit per home it built. The CEO Stephen Harvey took home whopping 1 million salary. The market turns a basic human need into huge profits

My head is my hands reading this. Government has turned social housing into a global investment commodity. Housing policy outsourced social housing to the market. Alpha Real Capital in €21m deal for Dublin social housing portfolio

Some media coverage make you think every 2nd person is a 'long suffering' landlord! Truth is just a tiny % of Irish people are landlords Just 3% (165,000) actually! And just 1% (52,000) Own more than 2 properties Yet 20% (1 million people) are renters Yet who is policy made for?

Rents up in Ireland by 82% since 2010 Rents up across the EU by 18% since 2010 Ireland is an outlier Why do we have the worst housing crisis in the EU? Because of Government housing policy that refused to control market rents, Airbnb, protect tenants & brought in investor funds..

I'm being contacted by renters who can't claim €500 tax credit because their landlord isnt registered with RTB. This is unfair. Renters afraid to even ask the landlord. Proof of rental payment should qualify the tenant? They shouldn't suffer for landlords failure to comply.

An immediate way government could address cost of living increases for many of those most struggling: 🏠Implement blanket freeze on rent increases across the country.

The Oscar Traynor site,a huge plot of 43 Acres (17.4Ha) of public land, with potential for 2,600 homes, owned by Dublin City Council, is being sold to property developer Glenveagh. With a value of €70m, but being transferred for just €14m @irishexaminer

Another Cuckoo investor fund buying up homes -locking out home buyers. Shows the Government measures were never really about stopping investor funds. The vampire funds get to keep feeding off Generation Rent. This is a disgrace

Did I hear right on @morningireland that the state lender Home Building Finance Ireland is lending to private developers to build social housing that the state then buys back from the developers???!!! This is illogical..unless your aim is just to subsidise private developers...

Dear BuildToRent vulture/investor fund lobby trolling my tweets. We will never accept that it is either Expensive MicroLiving or no supply. There IS an alternative-affordable, decent sized aparts & duplex houses to buy & rent. We want a living diverse sustainable city. Cheers.
