@faithandcoffeee
This is how I no longer have a relationship w/my father. He joked about my degrees and my job one too many times, & I (privately) asked him not to do that again. He insisted he was the victim & I am and always have been awful. 5yrs he hasn’t had to put up with his ‘awful’ child
@DuckieLouise
My father wrote me a letter telling me I was a bad Christian for leaving my physically abusive (now ex) husband. So, yeah, men are absolutely great judges of which other men should have access to women.
@DrJenGunter
As a person with Crohn’s and a permanent ileostomy, really not loving all the comments about how (if that’s it) she wouldn’t want to be in public. 1st, nobody knows unless I tell them or I’m half naked. 2nd, y’all don’t like disabled people very much.
@gothspiderbitch
If you can read that, it says May 76, and I found it cleaning out my grandmother’s kitchen this June—2023. In my lifetime, I never ate paprika at Nana’s that wasn’t expired (I was born in 78).
@emilykmay
My therapist says she sees this all the time. Men don’t want to be seen as “bad guys” so they check out socially/emotionally and wait for the wife to finally leave “out of nowhere!” as if they did nothing. Which is what they did.
@SureReality
@faithandcoffeee
It wouldn’t have been a small thing for him though. Respecting me in any way would have required him changing his whole worldview.
That’s the thing about setting boundaries: you have to be prepared to find out that people care more about their comfort than your wellbeing.
@emilykmay
So…women “hit the wall” and lose all their “value” after 30…but if somehow they don’t…they should hide themselves so that they’re not attractive to…teenage walking hormones? Do women ever get to exist without male approval?
@CovidintheChart
I (pastor visiting a parishioner) was the only person in the hospital today wearing a mask. Not an exaggeration; I saw zero other masks. I had just come from the nursing home 4 miles away where they’re required for a spike in #’s 🤦♀️
@HaleyCarrots
The child in the restaurant pours a drink over another diner; diner says. “We don’t pour drinks on others.” The parent saying, “they’re only 3 years old” is not teaching them to behave in a restaurant.
@DoomScroling
“Working outside the home makes women depressed”
Whereas men in the work force are known the world over for their stellar mental health 🙄
@WomnOfValor
Yes, but also scriptural modesty is talking about displays of wealth, not displays of body. The women’s clothing patrol has missed the point entirely. Just don’t grant them the premise.
@kevinmyoung
Maybe Billy Graham wasn’t afraid of being falsely accused by women. Maybe he just knew women would be safer if we were never alone with evangelical men 🤔
@lauralexx
My nana has Covid and is mad she’s not allowed out of her room in the assisted living home; she’s “just staying in bed and reading all day.” Nana, that’s not a punishment, that’s what we all wish we were doing.
@UnvirtuousAbbey
Today I was told Jesus killed the first born of Egypt to save the majority, and that’s why opening businesses should be prioritized over protecting a vulnerable minority. Apparently scripture has a lot to say about this pandemic 🤦♀️
#iwenttoseminaryforthis
?
@JoshuaUE99
Sure. But in reality, cooks, servers, gas station attendants, retail clerks…all working folks who will be working anyway because when we get a holiday, God forbid we feed ourselves or refrain from shopping for a day.
@TruthAgape
So, you’re still wearing masks in public to protect medically fragile disabled people, right? Or do you only care about hypothetical disabled people?
@chronicallybeee
“You just seem anxious. Go home and have a glass of wine.” The surgical “reconstruction” was 1/3 the size it was supposed to be and twisted 180 degrees. But sure, let’s assume it’s all in my head.
@appodlachia
I left teaching more than a decade ago, but I guarantee that if I had still been in the classroom, the pandemic would have literally, medically killed me. Teachers have been treated criminally in these last few years.
@olderwoman18
Her inability to distinguish between a professional supervisor at a job that pays you for labor and a spouse who partners with you in a (theoretically) loving and (theoretically) non-transactional relationship is telling…
@thomaslhorrocks
Right up there with last week and the man born blind so that God’s works could be revealed in him. I struggle with people who *don’t struggle with John’s gospel.
@ask_aubry
I love that you post these. This year when my obgyn asks what I’m using for birth control, I’m going to tell her it’s your Twitter posts. More effective than the pill and an iud combined.
@michelle_byoung
My undergrad named everyone with a 4.0 valedictorian, which I guess doesn’t mean much when it’s everyone, but still. Called home and told my dad. “So? You don’t even have a job yet.” And he didn’t bother to tell my mom. (& neither of them have a Bachelor’s)
@crochet_mom314
@FamiliarZen
You had an abortion. Look at your medical records. You were pregnant…then you weren’t…because of an abortion. Stop trying to kill people by denying them the same procedure that saved your life. Selfish & ignorant.
@BexWords
And I’m very sure that a lot of the “not all men” men are the same men about whom we have horror stories. The bar should be higher than not violently attacking women. We shouldn’t be handing out gold stars for not raping. Not raping should be the default.
@BexWords
The number of men who think the “in sickness” part does not apply unless they are the sick one…Been there, and you deserved so, so much better
@RevDaniel
“This is no longer an argument in which the progressive Christian church is willing to engage.” (Got accused of worshipping Ba’al after the community worship service because I’m a woman and therefore can’t be a pastor 🙄)
@ask_aubry
I used to get that a lot. Mostly from moms who would publicly scream at their kids for developmentally appropriate behavior if it wasn’t exactly what they wanted them to be doing. I learned to live with their disapproval 🙄
@saeraxiv
@ask_aubry
I was told to go home, have a glass of wine, and calm down. The surgical construction was 1/3 the size it was supposed to be and twisted 180 degrees in the wrong direction. My (now ex)husband “helped” by agreeing w the doc it was probably all in my head.
@bonhoefferchild
Yes! “Ancient cultural norms are NOT prescriptive” ought to be a footnote on every page and embossed on the cover of every bible. Conservative Christians’ culture war = (selectively) insisting that what was normal then is good now…when it might not even have been good then.
33K Christian denominations…Congrats on belonging to the only one with perfect theology! How lucky the rest of us are that you’re here to tell us our interpretations of 2K yr old texts have to be wrong bc they don’t match your interpretations. 🙄
@NewYearNewYo0
@WomnOfValor
Read it. He never calls her sinful. In context, she was most likely widowed repeatedly or the unwilling party in divorce. The only reason to assume her background was sinful and not tragic is modern misogynistic bias.
@MichHoivata
I think it’s really selfish of AARP to only tell older folks where they can get these free sandwich ingredients. No wonder they’re all off on cruises all the time—they’re saving $300/month by eating free sandwiches.
@jillec525
@kevinmyoung
All the “good” police are calling out their toxic colleagues, right? Bc if they’re not, they’re toxic, too.
Too many Christians have not called out toxic pastors, and that has damaged the Christian witness, and deservedly so.
@matthew_podszus
I’m still confused as to why they are called trucks. It doesn’t look like a truck. It doesn’t perform like a truck. Maybe a collective of them should be called a mistake?
@ProportionWheel
@EM_RESUS
I came into the ER with an hour old urgent care referral, including a negative pregnancy test (that I did not approve). They did another, and the tech asked for a THIRD before they would do a CT. Listen to women. As if.
@ellishalol
If only there was a way to assure that this will only cause single vehicle accidents—and to be clear, it should be the one driven by the person who is screwing around with this instead of safely operating their vehicle.
@arghavan_salles
Drs did this to me many times. 1 was progressing UC that ended in a total colectomy; 2 was internal bleeding from a failed surgery; 3 was a drain pushing on my diaphragm; 4 was a post surgical infection; 5 was a failed surgical reconstruction. All initially ‘its in your head’
@broadwaybabyto
You should be able to sue for a test you didn’t consent to. And not have to pay for the test. And have the medical board review the doctor’s license if he doesn’t know what a uterus is.
@SourceDuMal
Biking, hiking, kayaking, skiing…which were not new hobbies but were “mutual interests” I felt I should only do with my (now ex) husband who liked to buy the equipment but preferred playing video games. I stopped waiting and did what I loved.
@Lost_Nickel
Dr: Go home, have a glass of wine, try calming down…
Dr after testing: the surgical reconstruction is 1/3 the size it should be and twisted 180 degrees in the wrong direction. That could be causing pain.
Could it really? Could it not be all in my head?
@shaindelr
Made the mistake of ‘shared custody’ of the dog with my ex—every other week. He returned him sick; I found out he’d been unvaccinated for a year when he’d said he’d taken him to the vet. Can’t go to court bc it’s not a kid—neglect doesn’t matter. 2nd worst decision of my life.
@ponygirl923
Half of these misogynists think women expire by 30, which is a whole other problem. But also, “Only what affects me matters. Because I would never advocate for someone else, I assume nobody else would ever advocate for anything but their own self interest.”
@LBethstrong
@DrJenGunter
Yes, I wear skinny jeans & I’m a size 4. This is my point: the “she has to look ‘normal’/‘good’ and she can’t with an ostomy” comments are making some big, mean assumptions.
@BeccaLizz
A male pastor looked around a table of all male pastors and me, then suggested *to me* the title of a women’s commentary on the Bible if I “ever really wanted to understand scripture from a woman’s perspective.” The next week, he brought me a paper copy of the Amazon listing…🤦♀️
Day off. Did emails, ran errands, drove a couple hours, kayaked a couple hours, nice dinner, did housework, long shower, read a couple hours, no caffeine past lunch; still not close to tired. Anxiety: the gift that keeps on giving.
@jodipicoult
I’ve read every single one of your books. I used to be a Jr/Sr Hi English teacher, and frankly, many of your novels should be required reading for teens. The censorship is because your characters portray the Right’s favorite demonized stereotypes as fully human people.
@SpiritedSparr0w
As if anyone is aspiring to the loveless marriages devoid of respect and affection that were modeled by the parents who stayed together “for the kids”? We’re not fine either.
A “personal choice” is “ranch or blue cheese?” not “Will I endanger children, the elderly, the immune-compromised, and everyone seeking medical care in an overwhelmed system or not?”
#GetVaccinated
Clergy: We will bury teenagers, beloved wives, and mothers who will orphan their other children. Then we’ll care for their devastated families, including those who voted for their loved one’s death. And if you also voted for this, may God have mercy on you; I won’t.
@coffeeteanxiety
Makes you think that maybe the CDC doesn’t employ many people who have any personal or family experience with disability or compromised immunity…
@BeeBabs
The reason the “in sickness and in health” part is in there is the same reason the hairdryer has a tag that says “don’t use in the batbtub”—because this is a known issue. Some people have zero empathy.
@ZachWLambert
As I’m sure you’ll see from the hate-filled comments, discrimination against LGBTQIA folks is, if not a main motivation, at least a welcome bonus for those who are trying to force their narrow-minded theology on citizens who have a right to freedom from others’ religion.
For those pushing the young and not-yet-vaccinated to return to normal saying, "We should just take the risk and hope for the best" when they have already gotten to enjoy 80+ years of life, we pray. We pray really freakin' hard.
@NewYearNewYo0
@Writerwhsmith
@WomnOfValor
Mary is one of the examples in the original post.
Your interpretation of the woman at the well makes assumptions which are not supported by the text. If you can’t understand that, or you won’t acknowledge that, I can’t help you.
@_nomadic_soul
There is a whole Christian world where wives are not reduced to de facto prostitutes exchanging sex for basic human needs. How sad that people choose to live like this. But no wonder these men have no respect for women if they even treat their own wives this way.
@pastherandie
It’s men half my age with no seminary degree, no denominational ordination, and maybe 1/5 of my parish experience who, without irony, tell me I can’t exist or do the job I’ve been doing since they were in middle school. OK, and sure, the earth is flat 🙄
@emilykmay
He wouldn’t hold my hand before I had surgery because he “didn’t know how he felt anymore” but sure, I’m the one who ended the marriage because I took care of yet one more piece of paperwork. May he have the second marriage he deserves.
@JessicaLexicus
This is so strange to me. I wouldn’t recognize any of my dentists or dental hygienists I’ve ever had because they’ve been masked forever. These people are using *less* PPE than before Covid?
@XianJaneway
Hard disagree on “health” there. Anyone who thinks health doesn’t cost anything either has super expensive health insurance that someone else is paying for or has never faced a serious health issue and paid the healthcare bills.
Referred to the ER from Urgent Care for abdominal pain. The CT tech wanted a THIRD pregnancy test before the scan. Hats off to all you women gettin some on the ride to ER or in the hallway between the ER and Radiology.
“If you don’t forgive this awful thing I did for which I won’t take any responsibility, it will be your fault that we aren’t reconciled” sounds familiar. Glad I can vent that here. Because I still have a Twitter account.
@appodlachia
Well, which is it? Are we doing everything we can to “manufacture” (because that’s not at all dehumanizing) more of us or are we guilty from all the aborting? Seems like there’s only one party out there with a forced-manufacturing policy, and we ain’t it.

They were shocked bc she was female (John 4:27) not bc she was a “serial monogamist” (an anachronism). The anointer was Mary of Bethany (Jn11:2) or an unnamed woman (Lk7) whom Jesus forgives (48) without any evidence of her repentance. Read what it actually says.
