Evangelicals always get mad at exactly the wrong things. What if instead of being angry at a gay musician and a shoe company, we got mad at our own systems that made a gay musician feel like hell was a better place to be than the church.

The more I think about it, the more I realize how absurd it is that LGBTQ inclusion has become the primary fault line in the church. When I look at how many hermeneutical issues we DON'T divide over, it becomes clear that this is rooted in bigotry, not biblical interpretation.

If the version of Christianity that we are teaching our children falls apart the first time it is exposed to critical scholarship, perhaps it’s not the “liberal” Christian college that’s the problem. And the solution is not a better-insulated echo chamber.
