Just tried to get my IUD replaced. The got the old one out and could not get the new one in. When can we get sedation/better meds for IUDs? That was a very long and painful ~20 minutes with essentially no gain. 800 mg of ibuprofen doesn't cut it.

Did you know up to 200 women at Yale’s fertility center were forced to undergo egg retrievals without narcotics? These procedures are typically done under heavy sedation, but these women were awake enough to talk; one even told them she was alert enough to drive. These women…

We all know women make less money than men. Did you know people are compensated less for performing procedures on female patients than if performing similar procedures on male pts? We’ve know this in the US, where compensation is based on RVUs which are determined by a group of…

Was paged at 2:30 in the morning and was told (when I called back) they were trying to reach the surgeon to update HIM on the patient’s condition. Even when THEY paged ME, they still didn’t understand I was the surgeon. 🤦🏻‍♀️ #OperatingWhileFemale

One of my favorite things about Grey’s Anatomy is how the surgeons constantly take patients to radiology and monitor their scans without a tech or radiologist in sight.

Ever wondered how women scientists were erased from the records? Science historian Margaret Rossiter once asked whether there were ever women scientists. Perhaps it was the answer—no—that propelled her to discover the treatment of women in science. THREAD 1/

…comfortable speaking up. Over and over again, women going through infertility treatments have to “consent” to things we don’t want to do bc that’s the only way we can have babies. But if we’ve learned anything from The Retrievals, it’s that it doesn’t have to be this way…

3. If a celebrated scientist says he feels discriminated against “as a male scientist” without giving any evidence to back up his statement, resist the urge to defend him. Upholding the patriarchy is not the righteous move you seem to think it is. Hope that helps!

For the people saying they’re just hanging out with their friends: in Hollywood, as in most other circles, people who look like them hold the majority of the wealth, power, and status. The same people left out of their social networks are left out professionally too. That matters

Last night, for the 1st time in a long while, a patient of mine nearly died right in front of me. I knew that was likely to happen. But I wasn’t mentally prepared for it to happen w/in a few hours of my 1st shift, & especially not to the “healthiest” patient I was caring for. 1/

Recruiter: What is your desired salary for this role? Me: I’d rather not say. Asking applicants this question disadvantages those who have been historically excluded and undervalued. Recruiter: We usually ask. Me: What is “usual” isn’t necessarily right.

I saw a post from a woman physician who had her first baby at 42. It made me feel so much less alone. I guess it was a reminder that I should keep talking about my own journey, which feels never-ending, with one obstacle after another. But this is me at 43, still trying.
