Folks be like "you can totally own a house thats cheap! You just need to move to a small town that has no access to anything within a 40 mile radius and has a hidden history of lynching Black people!"
"So I'm a high C cup, low D cup and I want a wide band so I can hide my back fat..."
-A G cup client whose husband literally bust out laughing when he heard his wife go "what the fuck" after fitting her..
THIS. SERIOUSLY. Stop being a fucking dick to folks trying to join the gym for their new years resolutions. Let them be, Encourage them. Especially when y'all whine about fat people existing, then shit on them for ACTUALLY BEING AT THE GYM
As we go into 2018 and people inevitably join the gym, don't take a picture & post about them struggling to use the machines or laugh at how they obviously aren't gym fit. Put the phone down and mind your own fucking business. Or see if they want a buddy. Just don't be a dick.
If you have ever had the thought that "I didn't have to worry about you" about one of your children, know that the child in question has learned to lie to you about their needs because you sure as fuck wasn't going to fulfill them.
I'm a professional bra fitter. I get teenagers who wear these sizes brought to me daily. They deserve respect and consideration for their bodies! And they NEED to see their bodies as normal.
Fitness culture is absolutely about LOOKING SKINNY.
Dassit. Nothing else
That's why girls who like me get violently attacked if we are featured as the face of fitness despite all the work we put in!
Male mechanics could stop being sexist so we could feel more comfortable coming in to check on our brakes. Thats also an option. Cus yall absolutely do be on bs
Tens of thousands of garment workers in Bangladesh who make products for brands like Zara, H&M and GAP are on strike.
Their minimum wage is $75 a month, and they're demanding it rise to $208. The bosses are only offering $90.
They've shut down over 300 factories so far.
Me: So this bra is a HH cup
Client: wait how many Ds is that?!?!?!
Me: that letter doesn't exist to you. Never look at that letter again.
Her: But what about a normal size
Me: that IS the normal size..
Her
I remember the pro life group at my college, all mostly white men, they had that racist slogan "the most dangerous place for a black child is in the womb" on their table.
So I went up and asked "so why should I as a BW trust yall when this racist shit is here?"
The SILENCE
So my guilty pleasure is following bra boutiques across the US and the like cus they do before and afters and BAYBEE.
I keep telling yall, what you think a cup size is, AIN'T!!!!
"My titties ain't THAT BIG"
Do you know what THAT BIG actually IS??
Young girls get breasts because of puberty. Young girls get brought to me, a professional bra fitter, regularly. That is a mundane, everyday occurrence.
Every single woman who was size 8 and above was called a fucking slob. There were no in store plus size sections. They were "exclusively online" if they existed at all. The FCC literally refused to air a Lane Bryant ad on TV despite the VS fashion show existing
And as I said before, people need to see these sizes in their face. Regularly. It needs to be put in all media elements. It needs to be in physical stores for people to see. An L cup at JC Penney, a J cup at Target.
Romance and YA novelists need to write women and young girls with H, I, J, K, L, M cups because they're real and need to be spoken on in positive light.
Random tidbits from a bra fitter:
-The obsession with a smooth cup is often getting in the way of you actually finding your correct size and style.
-Back fat isn't real. You're fundamentally flesh with a rubber band strapped around it. Rebound happens
Mom brings in her 13 year old daughter with her with her school uniform shirt to me today going "she needs full coverage. Nothing spilling out" and I can see the war flashbacks on this kids face and whew yall.
They keep trying to bait this man into fatphobic mess when he's given countless examples of well dressed fat men and how to style around fat bodies using different looks
it's so weird the way people bring body shape into a discussion about clothes bc i can't imagine going into an exercise thread and asking "have you thought about dressing better?"
Snap back is deeply rooted in misogyny and fat phobia because pregnancy is the only time women are really 'allowed' to be 'fat' but the moment the baby is out they need to do everything in their power to go back to the standard of beauty and be 'attractive'
People who have partners who wear bras, LISTEN TO ME NOW:
If you cannot name the EXACT brand, size, make and model of the bra your partner wears,
DO NOT GO TO A BRA STORE AND BUY THEM ANYTHING OTHER THAN A $250+ GIFT CARD THIS BLACK FRIDAY.
I FUCKING MEAN IT
There was literally a study about this. Where black girls were effectively shut out socially while black boys were positively fetishized for fulfilling stereotypes about Black cool.
This is absolutely the norm for upper middle class white suburbia types. I see this EVERY DAY as a bra fitter. The policing of bodies in older women who bore the brunt of the glamor diets back then???? GOOD GOD.
The grandma on grandma violence on Facebook is real.
This woman looks incredible in her 70s and all of the comments are older women tearing her apart for her body and outfit.
Every one of them was terrified to answer me. All of them were from affluent white christian communities in Michigan.
And anyone who knows Michigan knows they are second to Indiana for Midwest Klan
Considering Valentines day is a day with a marked increase in suicide due to exacerbated feelings of isolation and loneliness, and men are often the most successful at suicide attempts, yall might wanna learn from women for 5 minutes.
Lmaooo the way this 70 year old lady looked distressed as hell because her daughter bought like 4 brightly colored bras.
Sis is trying to be all "but what about your light blouses" and her daughter's like "I really don't care" and this lady is DISTRESSED
The "good child" is the most scarred child in the family. They don't expect help. They know you'll cannibalize them to feed the "problem child" attention needs.
A gentle Saturday reminded that, if you are able and have the means to do so, hand washing your bras will preserve them much longer.
I said IF YOU ARE ABLE.
Read that line 7 times before reacting or responding.
IF YOU ARE ABLE, hand wash.
I brought every strappy and colorful bra in that room out of pure SPITE
Mama asking "you don't have anything beige?"
Daughter piped up and said "I don't wear anything white so I don't need it"
Me, internally:
A client just told me "I know you're probably right about my size, but can you just give me a triple D to try? I'm sure I can make that fit" and I honestly need every mall department store to put K cup bras in their bra section because I'm tired and I want to fight
AND THE BEST PART!!!!
Dad comes in to pay. Sees daughter extra happy cus I showed her all the things
Mom is all grumble grumble she only needs tshirt bras.
Dad sees the pile of cute daughter has and is like "you like it?"
Kids like "yah the lady was so nice!"
Him:
I showed that girl EVERY BRA BRAND.
COLORS. STRAPS. CUTE.
Mama sitting in the cut mad as hell and I turned to her and went "I can fit you too mom.... your band looks a little loose"
"You're supposed to be the good one" is what gets screeched at the "good child" for having the slightest while the "problem child" gets their messes cleaned up and will inevitably be coddled
It's always yt people that live in sundown towns and white flight suburbs that talk the loudest about "if you can't afford a house, just move to this small town with a 0.9% minority population, no public transportation and a lynching landmark! It's totes fine!"
All that talk about "discipline and dedication" goes the fuck out the window when somebody with a hanging gut is out lifting/running/working The Thinsโข๏ธ
Then it's a fucking "obesity promotion" and folks move goal posts
Mom: I'm wide and a small cup. 38A or B
Me: Oh. Oh really? Let's see.
Daughter, choosing violence with me: Yeah mom, you said you haven't been fitted in forever!!
Don't you EVER insult Valerie Frizzle and her safety measures again fam. Sis NEVER lost a kid and that bus is certified for intergalactic space travel AND subversive missions
We also talked about Molke cus she was quite happy to know there's rainbow and unicorn bras in her size. Cus you're you're allowed to be a big kid even if puberty is kicking your ass
AMERICAN: What is... "cur-ry"
ME [crying]: we can't keep doing this you stupid fucking yank
AMERICAN: Britain eat this? sauce look weird... it am not real spicy food like Chick-fil-A
ME: [crying while loading gun with two bullets]
Also I keep seeing folks go "the bras for bigger cups are never sexy" and Miss Ewa Michalak who goes up to a 60 band and T cups has demanded a fucking WORD.
And sis tried to use me to body shame her daughter "look at your fitter, she's wearing a minimizer!!"
I went and picked up the bright PINK colored strappy bra I had on and said "I'll never wear a minimizer in my size K cup life."
"Fat people don't do exercise!!"
*my fat ass shows up and shows out*
"Uh, well you not doing American Gladiator level exercises every day SO IT DONT COUNT!!!! OBESITY PROMOTION!!!!"
I am still very much tickled at the notion that someone thought I was insulting small bust women when I said "K cup breasts"
Like I really had to sit there and parse that thought out before realizing they meant Keurig pod size breasts ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ
Though fuck the concept of "health" in this capitalist structure because money and white supremacy dictates all outcomes no matter who you are.
But I absolutely love seeing the professionally skinny people foam at the mouth when fat people do anything in fitness
This is 97% of why yall hate underwire bras so damn much
Because ya titties are FIGHTING FOR AIR.
They got no space. So they MAKE SPACE.
And now your left titty is having a fight with the underwire and she aint winning
Sis was an 34F cup talmbout "im wide"
Her whole reaction, I swear to God, was a monologue about how "no I'm not THAT BIG cus thats impossible cus IM SMALL CHESTED!!!"
She got the damn smooth, but kid got to leave with a cheetah print bra cus I was like "oh look, doesn't this blend SO WELL into her darker skin tone?!?! It's TOTALLY a good nude for her"
Then of course I had to show the bralette style and my strappy sachi.
Both aint show!
Baby girl was SMILING and mom was trying to be a whole ass hater but not in my fucking fitting room
And for the love of all that is holy, do NOT complain about your child's bra size.
You signed up for ALL of the terms and conditions of bringing a human into being
That means getting them bras. At whatever size they wear!
I don't like how folks only started really being loud about fast fashion when fat people started getting options outside smocks.
Skinny folks can do the sustainability work. My fat ass finna enjoy the new trendy shit I was denied in my formulative years
Wouldn't let me bring her anything that wasn't a smooth padded tshirt bra in her size because "all that extra will show. I cannot let it show"
Daughter meanwhile is cracking up like no tomorrow
@nevrgiveupeace
I also said young adult novels. Coming of age stories teens read.
You can describe a teen feeling happy they found a cute pink bra in their size that their friends coveted when they saw it changing for gym class.
Thats something that happens. Regularly
Yall really make fun of how women shoot their shot with body language when we have been literally trained to avoid giving off any kind of vibe lest we 'give off the wrong idea' since like the age of 8....
Once again, bra fitters doing THEE WORK..
I need yall to LET GO of DDD and "well VS/LB/Torrid told me..."
None of them have the range.
And you're wasting your good money on something that's hurting you in the long run.
And this is why my number one rule for a bra fitting for parents of fuller busted is BE SILENT. Let your kid lead with what they WANT, not what YOU want.
You're too blinded by parental instinct to helicopter and you fucking up the rapport I'm building as a fitter.
Absolutely NOT. Sex workers are human beings who have the right to consent. There is no such thing as a "right" to access another human body. In any way!
We should be moving toward a right to sex. People should be able to have sex when they feel they want to, and we need to develop services that meet peopleโs needs without attaching the baggage of shame or criminalization.ย
So letโs talk about sex.
