So when are you stepping in?
You aren't answering any of the very good questions raised, and in the rare circumstances you accidentally have to answer one, you are clearly mistaken or misleading on the facts of what you are proposing.
Seeing so many of the traits of environmentalist doomers replicated in AI doomers.
- Alarmist, too short timelines
- Suggesting DOA policies
- Degrowth/Pause
- Vocal subgroup which are completely against the one thing that might actually reduce long term risks (nuclear/OSS)

Not understanding per se, but this quote from Seneca the younger, written in the 1st century, is quite something. Slapped me pretty hard with a historic perspective on science.
Found it as the first quote in Cosmos by Carl Sagan (which is probably my favorite book of all time)

Holy shit. I knew aspartame meant this, but not at those amounts of aspartic acid and phenylalanine!
But correction: phenylalanine is not a direct dopamine precursor. The pathway is Phenylalanine -> Tyrosine -> L-Dopa -> Dopamine
The
@dydxprotocol
's L2 is amazing. In 4 weeks I've 4x'd the play money I deposited into a sizeable amount. No gas fees, no waiting for txs, advanced order types.
Huge thanks to the dydx team and
@StarkWareLtd
. The future is looking bright!

I think the most change come from: jacked -> better self-image -> smile more -> people friendlier
i.e. not as a direct consequence of jacked.
I do think some people have been intimidated, when I notice I try to just smile and be overly nice, and that works to disarm.
I wrote a thing "Are Copilots Local Yet?" as an attempt to keep track of the development of local alternatives to GitHub Copilot.

"Run out of renewable energy"? Doesn't sound very renewable.
Isn't the whole point that only the very cheap, stranded, energy would be used for mining?
@oppnaskolplatt
Så när folk bygger offentlig mjukvara *på riktigt* så anser offentlig sektor att projektet ska stoppas?

@HolmdahlLena
, ni borde veta bättre.
Just got a call from the university's IT desk asking me to remove the 5.3TB of data (mostly backups) I have on my student Gdrive.
Apparently that's ~5% of the quota for the entire uni of >100,000 students & faculty (and ~2% of the actual/current usage), and Google is not happy.
@gaganghotra_
Bard allows people to share chats, if they choose. We also don't intend for these shared chats to be indexed by Google Search. We're working on blocking them from being indexed now.
@Altimor
I don't think the risks are negligible, but I think the proposals I've seen get attention are either all dead on arrival (blame OSS devs for harms) or nor actually addressing risks (pause).
I feel pretty confident people who continue to argue them will be wasting their time.
Trying to build an Electron-version of
@ActivityWatchIt
(for better cross-platform compatibility and more user-friendly UX).
Might finally solve the issues with running it on macOS! (among other packaging issues)
Tomorrow at 10:15 AM CEST I'm presenting my Master's thesis "Classifying brain activity using electroencephalography and automated time tracking of computer activity".

The virus got in before visitors were prohibited, this has been admitted by public health officials. However, current hospitalizations (proxy for new high-risk cases) seems to have stagnated, as predicted.

Am a Swede, spend very little time eating.
Eating with Danes takes forever.
Accurate chart, but might be more like "spend time eating/drinking with other people" vs eating alone.
Alpha alert! 🚨
@GiveDirectly
is currently triple-matching (2:1) all crypto donations (until Dec 5th), and rewards donors with an commemorative NFT. Not many ways to better spend your money.

Folk som är unga och använder potensmedel har sällan faktiska problem med potensen. Kopplingen är snarare att folk som har tillgång till cannabis ofta även har tillgång till potensmedel, och tycker sånt är kul likaså.
@Madisonkanna
Stick to one framework for at least 3yrs at a time, or get out while you can.
The only way to stay sane and productive. Lots you're expected to know, less you actually need to.
Finally. I just synced
@ActivityWatchIt
data from 3 different devices, using work-in-progress aw-sync and
@Syncthing
(any folder synchronizer supported, in theory)
This is the most requested feature, and the MVP is working well so far.

I can ask ChatGPT who is the founder of ActivityWatch (it's me!), but not who I am by name alone.
However, I can ask what software I have founded and maintained, and get the answer ActivityWatch.
Just one example I've come across.
As much as I've fallen in love with
@RoamResearch
recently,
@dendronhq
looks like something I could be using as a replacement in a few years if they keep the ball rolling. (I'm always actively looking for the best FOSS alternative)
"That's the nasty secret of SaaS. Even if the service doesn't just disappear entirely, like it often does, it might well 'evolve' in a direction you don't care for one bit. But what choice do you have?"
I'm finally updating
@ActivityWatchIt
for Android:
- Supports Android 13 🤖
- Includes all the improvements to ActivityWatch since the last aw-android version in 2021 🎉
- Much improved startup time 🚀
Rolling the release now, will be shipping soon! 🚢
This is why
@ActivityWatchIt
isn't on iOS.
We could, in theory, build an iOS version in only a few days, building on our Rust implementation just like we've done on Android.
But the refusal of
@Apple
to open their API and allow apps like it on the
@AppStore
makes it impossible.
The report also debunks Apple's primary counterargument of BUT WE'RE JUST PROTECTING USERS. And they had a former executive testify that Apple uses the protection argument simply as an excuse for capricious rulings or retaliation.
Been using GPT-J to help with writing my thesis, and I just gotta say, it's pretty great.
Feed it the tex with a title and abstract, then prompt with a \section{Introduction}. Pick the best parts, edit a bit, feed it back, prompt with next section, etc.
Works great!
9 months ago, I asked a friend "if you got paid for working on anything you want, how much would you need in pay, and what would you work on?"
My friend had a good answer, so I funded him.
He then exceeded all expectations.
A short thread 🧵
Hey
@krakenfx
, I'm happy you've (absurdly) declared me a billionaire today. I wouldn't mind if you just enabled trading and withdrawals for a minute :)
@DasSurma
My impression is that Wasm compilation was the feature that got a lot JS people interested in Rust many years ago.
What we're seeing now is just critical mass building up.
@davidasinclair
Could this in part explain why you should stay away from the sun while using them?
Since mTOR inhibitors decrease cell proliferation, that may ultimately be the reason why topical retinol thins the skin, and in turn reduces the body's defenses against UV radiation.
The year is off to a great start. We just got to 10,000 downloads and 1,400 stars! ✨🎉
We'll have a new developer update coming in the next few weeks, stay tuned! 🔔

I think it's consistent if you read it as a doctor would.
What would you do *if you were not a professional*, is implied because that's the situation the person usually asking the question is in.
🎉 Just hit 100 stars for my "Are Copilots Local Yet?" repo.

Update on iOS support: We've discovered there's a SQLite database on macOS that gets synced via iCloud.
This database contains all the data of Apple's Screen Time app (with its limitations) and might be suitable for researchers to use.
WIP import script:
I've talked to well-funded researchers that study device use, and they've simply given up on ever studying iOS users, as its practically impossible.
Apple talks a big game when it comes to protecting users from their competitors, shame they don't consider their own harms.
