@rmvirtues Cis folks with endometriosis and other gynecological disorders find it hard to access surgeries, so I imagine it is even harder for trans folks ๐Ÿ˜ฅ Not to co-opt your convo, solidarity, gender bias is such a big problem in medicine!

@Catherineamcc @christapeterso Yeah it of tends to be category 2 and overconfidence...went out alone, didn't tell anyone where they were going, no first aid kit, extra food, or emergency beacon. Basic, basic stuff. But yes "mysterious" only because the mystery is where they went.

@WhatTheADHD This brings up an important point about coping/masking. My keys are always in the same place, because if they're not, they disappear forever. Same with lateness...many of us have adjusted to be habitually early to compensate for lateness.

@jessejanderson I feel like NTs can have a consistent hobby or activity that they find comfort and fulfillment in, and achieve mastery at over time...even finding identity in it.. "I'm a runner, I'm a guitarist, I'm a woodworker..."

@jenevolent Neurodivergent people are more likely to have "justice sensitivity" (similar to rejection sensitivity) and get uncomfortable when we perceive injustice or rule-breaking. Also applies when the rules are unjust.

@jessejanderson The only way I have managed to do this is to have seasonal hobbies that I return to after enough time has passed, such as gardening in spring, sailing in summer, hiking in fall, and fibre art in winter.

@hi_its_annaleah Me either. I think it ignores systemic injustice and other social factors. Healing shouldn't be only an individual responsibility, it should be a collective undertaking with the additional goal of preventing trauma from happening to others.

@sensorystories_ This is validating. I have ADHD but also struggle with a lot of sensory issues, so I didn't know if perhaps I also might be autistic...but not many of the other symptoms fit, so I think I'm just sensory sensitive.

@forestvanslyke Mine keeps trying to get me to identify as a "highly sensitive person" but when I sought out and recieved a diagnosis of ADHD she implied that I over-identify with the label and still refers to me as simply "highly sensitive"

@adhdjesse Suuuuper understated aspect! I hated feeling like a liar. I wasn't lying on purpose, I just had no words to explain the real reasons I did (or didn't do) things. It was very confusing. And it definitely hurt my relationships when I was "caught" in a "lie".

@christineist I spent most of my 20s hiding & overcompensating for disabilities/illnesses I didn't know I had, and then I burned out hard. Now I'm watching my peers succeed at careers, raising kids, and maintaining a tidy home. I just thought I was trying hard enough.

@WhatTheADHD A lot of our coping mechanisms can hide our ADHD. We have forced ourselves to manage our symptoms and hide our shortcomings because it makes other people more comfortable. But few of us can manage every symptom perfectly 100% of the time.

And a great online community came with it, too!
