Wells Fargo Championship Preview
Scottie Scheffler has decided to give everyone else a chance this week. Can Rory get it done for a 4th time?

Initial feedback is that the TOUR players are *not happy*.
They turned down cash, changed their own schedule, stuck their necks out against LIV for two years and now they are finding out about a merge in real-time on Twitter.
Johnson Wagner estimated the negative/positive split to be 90/10 in the player meeting.
Including a “standing ovation” when the room called for new TOUR leadership.
Assuming Scottie Scheffler pays 10%, Ted Scott has earned $2,101,434 this season.
That would put him 79th on the money list between Matt NeSmith and Ben Griffin.
If I caught Judges 62nd HR, I’d ask for:
1. Photo with Judge
2. Yanks tix for life
3. Round of golf with Judge
4. Round of golf with Judge and Tiger
5. Tiger tournament worn polo
6. Tiger’s Scotty (gamer)
7. Masters tix for life
8. Photo with Tiger
Just being reasonable.
We let a group play of college kids play through on a par three today.
One of them made an ace. None of them had any reaction. Just a normal nothing shot.
They must be psychopaths. This should be investigated.
Denny McCarthy & Akshay Bhatia both gained 21.15 strokes to the field this week in Texas.
That would have been good enough to win each of the last 167 PGA TOUR events, including majors.
@RickRunGood
This was an incredible moment. JT is World Class on and off the course. Big Mike, Pappa Mike and caddie Skinny Mike are so deserving and are in a class of their own. Best of Luck Big Mike.
There are 31 golfers who have gained 50+ strokes from tee-to-green in 2023.
Only three golfers have gained 100+.
Scottie Scheffler is the only one who has gained over 125+ and he's actually gained 214.41.
Here they are -- with their putting numbers on the other axis.
Justin Thomas lost 7.034 strokes putting today, by far the worst putting round of his career.
38 total putts
22'10" of putts made
He made a 2'9" putt on the first hole and didn't make anything longer than that for the rest of the day.
LIV has always had a context problem (what does it mean to win LIV Tulsa?) but a sub-60 round is immune to that problem.
One of the best professional rounds ever recorded, at a course that used to be on the TOUR, by the biggest character in the game.
Massive W for LIV.
Today marks four years since leaving my job to focus on golf data full-time.
As I prepare to leave for LACC tomorrow, I can’t help but feel immensely grateful for everything this game and community has given me.
Thank you for the support and here’s to the next four. 🍻
Bryson won't try to drive
#6
for a few reasons but the biggest is that he likes the *illusion* of him being able to drive a par 5.
If he tries, and can't, that illusion goes away. Bad for the brand.
🧵 Here's the deal with the 15th hole at Riviera which will be a topic of conversation for this week.
It started getting a lot of chatter because two years ago, we saw a few players (notably, Viktor Hovland) intentionally play down the 17th fairway instead of the 15th.
The five Majors since golf returned:
- Morikawa explodes onto the scene, wins his first
- Bryson tames Winged Foot
- DJ dons the Green Jacket
- Hideki wins one for Japan
- Phil defeats Father Time
Wow.
🚨 Okay, it’s happening.
I’ll be headed to the Masters as part of the coverage for
@CBSSportsHQ
.
Can’t wait to be your eyes, ears, and boots on the ground.
🌸 See you in Augusta.
Today I released the 1,000th video in the history of my YouTube channel.
I can’t believe we’ve made it this far, thanks for all the support! 🚀
How it started: How it’s going:
I just learned that my wife presses CAPS LOCK every time she wants to capitalize a single letter. She doesn’t use the shift key.
This is what insane people do, right?
Scottie Scheffler lost 3.5 strokes putting in R1 of the Masters. That's the 7th worst putting round of his career.
He shot a 68 and is three shots off the lead.
There are 23 golfers who have gained 50+ strokes from tee-to-green in 2023.
Scottie Scheffler is the only one who has gained 100+ and he's actually gained 186.05.
Also, for fun -- their putting numbers on the other axis.
Bryson DeChambeau hit the grid on 70% of his swings today. The average "hit" rate for the rest of his group was only 24.05%.
Bryson's accuracy alone should allow him to do well in Long Drive competitions.
Grayson Murray smacks a palm tree off-the-tee.
Lays it up.
Pulls an approach.
Hits birdie putt from 38'7".
Wins.
Ben An bombs one off-the-tee.
Hits approach just short of the green.
Chips to 4'3".
Misses the putt.
Loses.
Did not see that coming.
The 2021-2022 Perfect TOUR Player:
OTT: Jon Rahm +1.025
APP: Will Zalatoris +1.063
ARG: Matt Kuchar +0.519
PUTT: Lucas Herbert +0.853
TOTAL: +3.46
That’s nearly identical to Tiger Woods’ 2006 season of +3.44
The Cat won 8x in 15 starts that season.
If the TOUR is headed towards more no-cut events, there’s never been a better time to implement my:
“$50,000 Round of the Day” bonus.
Reward guys who got hot THU & FRI while incentivizing players out of contention.
Sell it to FanDuel to promote their showdown slates.
My first Masters is in the books and hopefully it’s the first of many.
I thought I was prepared but this is *truly* a different tournament experience than anything else in the world.
Thanks for all the support!
Brace yourself:
Whether he competes in the Masters or not, we are almost certainly going to get reports of Tiger Woods playing a practice round at Augusta National in the coming days.
