My son & I have a "safe word" for when one of us is being impulsive. Too many times, I'll suddenly change the plans, or he'll ask to do something super random in the middle of something else. It used to cause confusion and frustration. Now we just say: BLUE WATERMELON! 1/8๐Ÿงต

A new type of typeface might be beneficial to neurodivergent readers! ๐Ÿคฏ It's called bionic reading โ€” the first few letters are bolded, making it easier for readers to glide through text and stay focused. (links in reply)

So my license plate sticker expired two years ago. So of course I've been anxiously and shamefully avoiding the process of renewing it all this time. Days went by. Months. Years. I've dreaded the idea of renewing it after THIS long. But. Today, I finally did it. And...

People with ADHD NEED straightforward instructions or sentiments. Many of us aren't able to function via "dancing around things" and "hinting at the general idea". It's not that we don't pick up on hints, but without verbal/written confirmation, we will question our perception.

Moral of the story to my fellow ADHDers with rejection sensitivity: That unnamed fear you have about finally facing something you've been avoiding? That thing you're embarrassed about finally addressing after all this time? ... It's probably not going to be as bad as you think.

FULL DISCLOSURE I tried to leave. Twice. "I'll do it online," I said. Fortunately, my partner was there to remind me that I already tried that and it didn't work. And when I just groaned and said, "do I have to ๐Ÿ˜ญ" he gave me THE LOOK. So shout out to my guy for that one.

What you think ADHD is: - lazy - "squirrel!" - can't focus lol What ADHD actually is: - chronic lack of motivation - lots of self-loathing - frustration (due to losing things, forgetting things, etc) - can't focus on things you enjoy or people you care about - idea overload

What's your worst ADHD trait? I'll start: If a task doesn't have a deadline and/or there are no clear consequences for NOT doing it... I just won't do it. However, I remain very aware that I'm not doing it until, eventually, the shame eats me alive & fuels my motivation.

I will die on this hill: An ADHD diagnosis is absolutely useless if you don't have an appropriate support system. Too often, people are diagnosed with ADHD & are left to ask themselves "now what?" A diagnosis is not a fix. Support & knowledge, on the other hand, go a long way.
