You may consider yourself some form of oracle, but I’m sure there are many across the country who took on PAs as I did because they felt their services were under pressure and this was a relief valve, and not in any way a replacement for doctors.

@LukeAmos__ And I support our juniors to fight for the things they understand now better than I do. Such as better pay & conditions. And holding me to account for the training they get in my dept. To you that might not be enough, but I can honestly tell you it’s hard work, and I’ll continue.

@LukeAmos__ @bjemec @ExplosiveEnema2 @DrSarahClarke …that most of these posts have been taken up by folk that started with us as SHOs and wanted to stay. It is humbling to be part of a unit where excellent junior doctors want to move into permanent roles, and a privilege seeing them develop into senior, skilled surgeons.

A person who works differently to a doctor but can help those doctors rest, be trained, be less stressed, is in my view worthwhile. It is not a universal solution tho.

I took an opportunity to accept an offer of specific funding for a PA post from our Trust, and we have tried to use our PA to reduce stress and workload for our SHOs…
