I felt lost for 2 yrs after having to retire from sport, it was like a light had gone out inside. So last year I set a goal to do this cycle in Italy. I lost 3.5 stone, got fit, & this cycle was the first time in 3 yrs that I felt myself again. Planning the next challenge now! 🚴🏻‍♀️

On Saturday I took my niece Ruby to her first ever match. Big stadium, top atmosphere, & 31,000 fans...for a women’s game. Back when I played footy this was unthinkable, but for this generation it’s real! They have role models, opportunities, & big dreams. Absolute magic ⚽️🌟💙

I keep reading that women’s sport will disappear after this crisis. This is my niece Ruby at the Man City v Man Utd women’s game- 31,000 fans & a very excited 9 yr old! This time is tough on every business but women’s sport is here to stay, the next generation is counting on it!

On July 13th in Zimbabwe, I became the first British woman to win the Commonwealth title, but there was no belt. Through working with the CBC a women’s belt has now been introduced for female champions. And here it is. It’s been a long wait, but we finally have it! PAVE THE WAY🌟

Grandad was a giant to us, the brightest light, & there was nobody like him. The loss is enormous, but I wish every kid could be loved the way he loved us. Dementia was to be his final round, but don’t rest in peace Grandad, make mischief as always. “Tickety Boo, Love you” ❤️ 🥊

Grandad is 87 today. This is us in New York when I was 10 as part of the boxing trip...some gyms didn’t allow girls but he insisted I be able to train, always encouraging me to do what I loved. We can’t visit him but we’ve a party for him on zoom, love you pa! Tap dance away 🥳❤️

1992 when Grandad took me on our boxing club trip to New York before it was even legal for girls to box ➡️ then 2015 when he was there to see me win the national title representing his club. Thanks for believing in me & my dreams Grandad. Remembering him today on his birthday ❤️

Saturday marked a year since we won the Commonwealth title in Zimbabwe. It’s been a tough 12 months since with 2 surgeries, testing my limits physically & mentally. But I’m working hard to get back & I’ll go through whatever it takes to have even one more moment like this 🥊❤️

Had surgery yesterday on my knee. Another setback after the hand operation in October so it’s frustrating. But time with my nieces today was ace, I’ve got a great coach, top people supporting me & my resilience & determination is solid as ever. It’ll be hard, but not impossible❤️

When I won the Commonwealth title in Zimbabwe 5 yrs ago, I didn’t get a belt after the fight. We fought to get a women’s belt after that, & last night was the 1st time I saw it handed to someone live. It was special. Huge congrats Emma Dolan! Watch it on @fightzonetv April 21st🥊

We’ve had a strange Christmas due to a family member being very ill in hospital since Christmas Eve. It’s been an exhausting & emotional couple of days for us but I’d like to thank the @NHSuk staff at Tameside hospital for their care, our doctors & nurses do an amazing job 🙏🏼🙌💙

Sport gives us some mega highs, but challenges too. Yesterday I had surgery on the hand I injured in the title fight, my 7th surgery in sport (this is how ace you look afterwards)😂 Injuries don’t get easier, so we have to strengthen our resolve. Thanks to those supporting me x

The women’s FA Cup Final on sunday was amazing with a world record crowd for a women’s domestic game of 77,390 at Wembley. I took my shirt from our FA cup final in 2002, partly to acknowledge how far we’ve come, but also as a nod to all of those great players who came before ⚽️🥳

Havent been able to go in the gym since grandad died. I went last week & it felt horrible. But yesterday was good, being there with our coaches, boxers, and best of all my 2 daft cousins. Grateful we share our love of boxing & the adventures of it as a family. Thank you grandad❤️

Since starting #PaveTheWay in 2017 there have been lots of positives. But taking my 9yr old niece Ruby to see our exhibition of female role models in sport felt particularly special. It’s important to inspire the next generation, especially when it includes those we love most❤️🌟

Grandad’s boxing club moved to this gym over 20 years ago, I feel the exact same training here as I did as a scrawny kid sparring with my mates in head guards & gloves miles too big for us! I’m so lucky that I fell in love with sport, there’s absolutely nothing else like it 🥊❤️

I get why some people dislike boxing, or even object to it altogether. But I visit gyms like this one & see what it does for a community, what the sport does for boxers & keep fitters, what it nurtures in those drawn to it, & honestly it has a hugely positive impact #boxing 🥊😁

Hard to explain what today meant! Huge thanks to the @WomenSportTrust UNLOCKED campaign as I met with Dame Sue Campbell at the @FootballAssoc where she is director of women’s football. Sue is a true superhero in sport & this meeting had a massive impact on me. Blog to follow 😁🌟
