In London,
#NHS
#dentistry
rapidly collapsing with
#COVID19
staff sickness. We’re down to one
#dentist
& one nurse on two sites tomorrow, if we’re lucky. No agency staff available. Yet
@NHSEngland
is in silent mode… no recognition of the situation unfolding across the
#NHS
Proud to be named 4th on the
#IB100
- a list of 100 most influential
#BAME
leaders in the tech sector by
@InclusiveBoards
&
@FinancialTimes
. So important that diverse talent, such as those I’ve worked with the last few years, can rise to senior leadership & enact positive change.
Disproportionately low BME representation on national healthcare boards, report finds - —- Changing this means that senior leaders have to recognise there is a problem and stop looking past BME staff. I’ve seen some unacceptable behaviour in the last week
@ZacGoldsmith
@TheHillsCountry
you’re not an epidemiologist & you don’t know that his actions didn’t contribute to any deaths from spread of covid whether or not he became symptomatic or even tested positive. He partook in an activity that was likely to spread it. His family’s experience of Covid is irrelevant
Honoured to have been nominated for Digital Leaders 100 along side some amazing colleagues and friends from the
#NHS
#DL100
. Thanks to my amazing team in
@NHSEngland
@NHSX
@NHSDigital
- its been phenomenal working with you!
#DUEC
I often get asked about startups operating in the

. I would highly recommend reading this blog by
@iDrSunny
. It’ll help some
#NHS
managers who might be thinking about solving problems with new

@NHS_HealthEdEng
#HEE10
I was a TPD, had the opportunity to work with some amazing
#doctors

Also saw very worst of HEE when you conspired with Trusts not to pay a trainee for 3yrs & When you deliberately refused a GP contractual pay protection as an StR
@JimBethell
@HelenRSalisbury
With all due respect
@JimBethell
I think most of the senior clinicians in
@NHSEngland
have sold themselves out. They don’t offer independent advice, they simply do what is in the interests of their employer, NHSE. They’re mainly out of touch with most colleagues
On a day when diversity, race and inclusivity is highlighted in the
#NHS
(or total lack of it), I am reminded about how lucky I am to work with a total mix of talented people in the joint
#DUEC
team that spans
@NHSX
@NHSEngland
@NHSDigital
@NHSImprovement
and is better for it!
@BBCNewsnight
We see this policy fail everyday in
#NHS
#dentistry
everyday. Those who don’t qualify for exemption and can’t afford the charges don’t present until it’s too late. At that stage limited options. This will widen
#healthinequalities
. Plus who picks up the admin burden of it?
@Anna_Firth
@EastEnglandAmb
@ic24uk
@NHSEngland
@Anna_Firth
what an irresponsible message. You’ve been in an ambulance for 5mins & you think you understand how the whole
#NHS
works. This is problem with political interference, you haven’t got a clue. If they didn’t get an ambulance which resource would you provide for them?
@ShaunLintern
@NHSBT
The other problem is that these failed CEOs & Chairs go from one NHS org to another public sector or charity org. It’s like a merry-go-round of
#cronyism
#Nepotism
and maintaining status quo of failure. Nothing will change as it’s
#systemic
across NHS & civil service
@drmattuk
@LordPhilofBrum
As usual oppressive approaches from
#NHS
employers. Highly unlikely that these bully tactics will be lawful for an emanation of the State.
@RanigaVinay
@andrealeadsom
@RanigaVinay
do you work in an
#NHS
in a different country? Have you read the same plan as everyone else?
This plan is just another hopeless PR stunt, built on sand and full of fake news.
To be clear there is NO investment whatsoever in
#dentistry
@ChrisHopsonNHS
@NHSPracHealth
@NHS
Chris, sadly most occupational health schemes at a local level do not offer this type of service & nor do they have the expertise or independence. It would be misleading to suggest it’s provided locally. It isn’t. It’s quite straightforward this service needs funding.
@GoodLawProject
It’s a bit like the
#NHS
@NHSEngland
Chief Dental Officer being the director of a private company handed millions for a contract that doesn’t exist depending on which day of the week it is & now set to be given more contracts. Sparks a lot of questions about conflicts of interest
@BMA_JuniorDocs
@NorthBristolNHS
The signatories to this letter should be embarrassed & ashamed of what is a form of aggression against those considering industrial action. This is an unreasonable approach from an employer of this size & availability of resource. Highlights how little they value their clinicians
@trishgreenhalgh
Disappointing. One of my former public health trainees asked to join. Experienced clinician +public health registrar. Has had no response. Seems like all the schemes for redeployment are pointless if we can’t even make use of some of the most experienced people in our workforce.
Happy New Year, I hope that 2021 is a peaceful year for you.
2020 very much highlighted the power of
#epidemiology

Whilst I hope
#2021
is less eventful, I do hope that
#healthtech
continues to improve lives.
Looking forward to meeting you again soon!
@zoerichardsuk
The higher up the system, the worse the bullying is. There’s also a pack culture where a few very senior C-suite bullies work in concert. Sadly I often remind colleagues new to senior roles to wear mental body armour. The tactics used by the bullies are now quite sophisticated
#inequalities
exist all around us. I’ve never been more aware than now how big corporates & public sector orgs like the
#NHS
are not designed to fix the problem. There’s a cultural issue in these organisations that means they are impenetrable to ordinary people, SMEs or start-ups
.
@NHSDigital
.
@NHSuk
disappointing that your
#MouthCancerAction
content makes no reference to General
#Dental
Practitioners and the dental team.
Our GP colleagues are already overstretched & we’re better placed to examine the oral soft & hard tissues.
So why no mention?
So very important, I do hope digital transformation teams in
@NHSEngland
@NHSDigital
follow this approach at some point before trying to deploy legacy products into new settings. We need to recognise the differences between users and settings. Unlikely that one product fits all.
@malinga_r
@drpetermaskell
any ideas how this case got to GMC? Did MTW refer or was it security staff? Security response seems disproportionate & excessively brutal. How many other doctors were treated like this by your security or was it just IMGs? Do you disinfect all pts entering A&E?
Congratulations to
@NHSDigital
@123hadleigh
#NRLS
for winning Digital Public Service Innovation of the Year 2019. Great to see the

@DigiLeaders

Digitisation throughout the NHS is really important to us. This is equally true in Urgent and Emergency Care. It’s been a great year so far, working with citizens, clinicians and lots of SMEs to continually improve services.
@sajidjavid
@AngelaRayner
Incredibly important that the Minister called this out. Many of us will have experienced similar micro aggressions in the workplace and it often goes unaddressed. This happened in .

Really pleased to be part of this year’s

#BIMA
and those who nominated me.
@parthaskar
Unfortunately my own experience and that of people I know would suggest that the
#NHS
is institutionally racist, or at the very least very biased. HR processes are generally broken and ultimately if hiring managers don’t want to hire
#BAME
people they’ll find a way not to.
@CNOEngland
Ruth these are no more than the usual fluffy words that we have come to expect from
#NHS
England. You issued an award to one of those involved in this
#racist
case. Consider is not enough. Action is needed. Time to clear out the rot from NHSE, otherwise you remain complicit
@GMB
Pls ask the Government representative how exactly a switch from analogue to digital telephony is going to solve the access crisis or improve availability? This is a non story.
I get DMs, messages & calls everyday about
#racism
in the
#NHS
. If you think it doesn’t exist then you are part of the problem. It’s everywhere & it’s rife in
@NHSEngland
. Most of the time it doesn’t get addressed because those suffering know that it’s usually career suicide
Delighted to be speaking at

GMC case raises a lot of questions about the GMC and their motivations but more than that it raises even more questions about .

Can someone explain why dentists are expected to treat potential COVID carriers using suction with procedures that generate droplets of saliva +blood with BASIC PPE at a distance of c30cm yet others operating with suction via the mouth must use FULL PPE?
Don’t be fooled that this
#racism
isn’t around us. Minorities face this everyday. Often asked where you’re ‘really’ from? Do you speak English etc?
There’s a reason that most top roles in
#NHS
& public sector are dominated by

essential that we advocate for

as part of a new system to focus on oral diseases. We need a model of
#DPH
that recognises the range of needs that go beyond the clinical need and values primary care
@Beska
This is classic
#NHS
bureaucracy designed to ruin lives of people just trying to work in NHS. It can’t be beyond their competence to create a system that is entirely online and can start a permit on a future date. Should ask HR why it is they are blocking you from coming to work?
Someone has to ask if there is anyone left with an ounce of intelligence at the top of
@NHSEngland
?
Quite incredible that such a scheme made it through the UEC Board let alone being released by NHSE. NHSE needs a top layer clear out because this bunch are clueless.
NHS E are making A&E performance a competition with million pound cash prizes for the top ranked trusts.
This does not seem like a good incentive system.
Note that letter issued today (12 March) for performance in March.
@iDrSunny
Sandeep this is a very useful post and I do hope

could be a success. Yet many people still can’t access it & some practices won’t enable access. System offered by my local practice doesn’t include online booking +their website is something out of the 90s. Still can’t view or access my record, not offered. .

I also don’t understand why you’re critical of the

doctor for doing exactly what they’re commissioned to do. Yes an ambulance was requested because in their clinical opinion in the circumstances that was appropriate. How are you qualified to judge the resource was wasted?
@chrismullinexmp
Chris I’m not sure if anyone’s explained how medical & dental education works but in England those in training have to not only pay significant tuition fees and accumulate debt but they’re also subjected to derisory terms & conditions, including much free labour.
@CatrionaRennis1
@DrRJWebb

In fact what this case does is cause a culture shift that will result in cover up and potential harm. Next time a doctor feels the OOH / 111 CAS case load is unsafe, they’ll stay quiet for fear of GMC referral

So incredibly sad but unfortunately I can well believe the poor level of care he was given. I can see exactly how patients are left with no agency. This a tragic loss for medicine and an even bigger loss for his family. I expect the Trust may be defensive & could ‘lose’ records

Can’t see how they could have freely consented to have their health plastered over social media. On the one side the relationship with UCL as their medical school & on the other with Whit as their care provider. Can’t see how this broadcast meets any ethics test
Very important distinction about white privilege. I do remember meeting after meeting where senior white leaders in the
#NHS
would reply to concerns raised by black colleagues, by citing their own experiences. Seemed to be a lack of acceptance. Great podcast
@NHSProviders
White privilege doesn't mean your life isn't hard, it just means that it hasn't been made harder based on the colour of your skin.
In our latest Provider Podcast, trust leaders identify the steps needed to make the NHS anti-racist.

The constant transcription of data from one medium to another that is then relayed between providers is a system failing. It also leads to errors & in some cases is even unsafe. Let’s hope next version of digital transformation in the NHS tackles this.
@ZacGoldsmith
Given that he was your former chief of staff on your mayoral campaign in London, I can understand your defence of him but can’t see that justifies attacking those who are critical of what happened at that party
@dr_merritt
Simon, as CMOs we don’t always see everything, however us not recognising it should not in diminish the valid concerns of those in training who have been impacted by loss of opportunity. It’s real for those doctors in trainings. Sometimes we need to open our eyes to recognise it
