Low Traffic Neighbourhoods increase traffic on main roads!
The demands of cycling lobby groups are prioritised over the safety of pedestrians and bus users.
Affluent able bodied men putting their convenience above the needs of the elderly, women with kids and people with disabilities.
This is what our President who is blind said about the bus stop design where you step off the bus onto a narrow bus boarder next to a cycle lane on Lea Bridge Road, Waltham Forest
‘Not fit for purpose. It really is totally inaccessible. These sorts of designs should be scrapped’
So many cyclists are against LTNs.
We’re being conned by councils who listen to niche charities and ignore their residents.
Longer journeys & traffic jams do NOT help planet or public health.
Children are choking.
The LTN experiment has failed.

When people say 'what's your alternative to LTNs' what they really mean is 'I'm making my life nicer at your expense and I don't want any push-back'.
All LTNs do is shift traffic from roads with high car ownership onto community roads & Red Routes increasing CO2/NO2 emissions.

They close their roads forcing delivery vans to take longer routes on main roads, increasing traffic congestion & vehicle emissions like CO2, NO2 & PM2.5. 😖

👇The severe traffic congestion caused by the new Streatham Wells LTN, means more toxic vehicle emissions and greater public
#airpollution
exposure!
Yes, the video clearly shows LTNs delay emergency services!
To LTN activists, this LTN is working perfectly as this is by design!
LTN trails were based on a theory that traffic would evaporate if motorists were forced to drive further and spend more time in severely congested idling traffic.
The LTN experiment failed miserably, increasing toxic vehicle engine emissions during a respiratory pandemic. 😱
If this is the belief that it’s helping the climate crises then what does harming it look like. Never in all my years have I seen so much standing idling traffic. All this to provide a small minority a quiet road to drive out of ….
Who are LTNs for? The latest Travel in London report acknowledges that less than 4% of journeys in the capital are made by bicycle and the cycling demographic continues to be dominated by white men from higher income households in the 25-44 age group.
"LTNs disadvantage one group of residents as compared to another based on where we live and where we can afford to live. The policy is environmentally unjust. It should be halted and reversed before more harm is done."
A group of people want to make their roads nicer
OK, I get that
Without changing their polluting lifestyle
Sounds unfair
By relocating traffic from their roads to community roads
That's immoral
And telling those suffering "LTNs benefit all" & "LTNs protect planet heath"

Who to believe 🤔
The Labour councillor sitting in their office counting their £millions in LTN fines and talking about the theory of traffic evaporation...
or
The bus driver & passengers telling you they're 25 minutes late due to congestion from LTN traffic relocation schemes?
My bus was on time until it reached the LTN boundary roads…… Im now 25 minutes late …… don’t believe the lies …. The LCC cult are destroying our amazing london bus service to provide for there selfish middle class work from home members ….
When I first watched this video my heart went out to this mother as I thought she was shoplifting to feed/clothe her baby.
Now I'm told she's a well known academic tasked by the government to conduct an independent/unbiased review of LTNs and she's stealing an anti-LTN poster!
"Studies show that 1 in 2 women feel unsafe walking after dark in a quiet street near their home."
Local authorities imposing socially unjust 'Low Traffic Neighbourhood' schemes are simply not taking women’s & children's safety into account.
As requested by Jon Burke, I’ll “own it” and take responsibility for
@RishiSunak
undertaking an independent review of Low Traffic Neighbourhood schemes.
Rishi, please let me know when you’ve time to discuss the social & environmental injustices of LTNs. 👍🏾
Billions of pounds have potentially been wasted on active travel schemes such as low-traffic neighbourhoods that have failed to boost walking and cycling rates...
The greatest trick the cycle lobby ever pulled was convincing clean air & climate change supporters that LTN traffic displacement reduces car use, exhaust emissions &

Andrew Gilligan, former cycling commissioner for London and transport adviser to Boris Johnson (who funded LTNs), writes a blog saying "Ignore false claims and bad journalism" but then falsely claims "most LTNs do reduce traffic"🤣😂😂🤣
@andrewellson
Learning from lockdown on air pollution.
“Less and slower traffic may be one solution, along with lighter vehicles.”
To get clean air, it’s not just the tail pipe that matters. We need fewer wheels (and turning more slowly) along with lighter vehicles.
This suggests councils deliberately changed counter settings to omit vehicles stuck in start-stop-idling traffic created by their LTNs. 👇
A desperate act by councils hiding the truth that LTNs increase traffic, congestion & emissions on our community main roads & Red Routes.
Today's Times: LTN success based on inaccurate data.
'Research suggests that between 5 & 35% of cars, vans and lorries in slow moving or stop-start traffic are not being counted, calling into question the claimed success of the controversial schemes.'
WOW, just look at those figures! 👇🏾
No surprise to see residents on LTN 'Boundary roads' deliver so many 90% 'oppose'!
So wonderful to see 'Residents of LTN' stand with their community with 58% 63%, 67% 70% 73, 79% & 82% 'oppose'!
This must now end the
#socialinjusticeofLTNs
! 👏🏾
I've spent years campaigning to reduce children's
#airpollution
exposure. Recently I've been raising awareness of the
#socialinjustice
of
#LowTrafficNeighbourhoods
.
I've received abuse from
#LTN
advocates for speaking up.
Yesterday this tweet was sent by the CEO of PedalMeApp.
Councils proclaim "traffic has decreased on LTN boundary roads". This is based on automatic traffic counters.
What councils don't tell you is once boundary roads become severely congested from LTN relocated traffic, their traffic counters stop counting traffic! 😵
Example👇🏾👇🏾
I have data for my road from 29th November 2022 either side of 17030 hours. The data did not show any of these vehicles crawling over cables ,…
@JourneysPlaces
showed this as evaporated traffic. Look for yourselves. In comments I have evidence of time and place of recordings.
If you close side roads & relocate traffic to High Streets & Red Routes, the severe congestion created will 'evaporate'. That's the theory of Low Traffic Neighbourhoods. This is the reality. 👇🏾
#AirPollution
#EnvironmentalJustice
We need to have a grown up conversation about cycling speed limits on pavements. 👇
Sadly, a minority of affluent male non-disabled cyclists, who want to cycle everywhere as fast as they can, will make a lot of noise claiming pedestrian safety would limit the uptake of cycling.
This lady was hit on the high road by a cyclist going at 20mph. I thought the LTNs would make the roads safer for pedestrians. Why are the cyclists on the pavements? Oh that’s right, because the roads are chocca from the
#Ltn
, rd works, that
@haringeycouncil
won’t mitigate for.
🗣️FINAL RESULTS
Over 700 responses and a whopping 85% said YES local authorities should consider scrapping their Low Traffic Neighbourhoods.
The 15% vocal minority of LTN supporters will say "this is not a referendum" but it's clear as day, the vast majority want LTNs scrapped!
Should more local authorities consider scrapping their Low Traffic Neighbourhood schemes? Let us know your thoughts!
28% of the LTN schemes installed since March 2020 have been discarded in the UK. In London, 30% of the LTNs have been removed. (ref: )
Your campaign to get
#airpollution
recognised as a cause of Ella's death must change the way councils think about displacing traffic and its pollution from side roads to residential main roads so no other family suffers as yours has. 🙏🏾
#socialinjusticeofLTNs
#environmentallaw
When LTN advocates say: "the data I've seen shows traffic has decreased on boundary roads", they do so knowing data from community main roads receiving displaced traffic is 'unavailable'. To some, it's simply a game to be won regardless of the cost to planet & public health. 😰
@metecoban92
@BBCNews
That's misinformation Mete! People on lower incomes are more likely to walk, wait for buses and attend school on the main roads & Red Routes where traffic from LTNs is increasing congestion &
#airpollution
.
Read this thread 👇🏾See the injustice of LTNs 🙏🏾
Children's greatest exposure to traffic pollution is NOT at home on the side roads being closed for LTNs.
It's as they walk, scoot, wait for buses and whilst at nursery, school on/near main roads.
Traffic displaced by LTNs increases
#airpollution
for those already most at risk.
18 buses stuck in Lambeth council manufactured congestion on Streatham Wells High Road.
This is not "a war on cars"! Councils are harming the elderly, people with disabilities, the poor & people of colour who rely on buses.
All to benefit affluent car owners living inside LTNs.👇🏾
The wall of buses and stuck emergency vehicles has returned to Streatham High Road at 5:51pm on 19th Jan 2024 curtesy of the Streatham Wells LTN forcing all traffic trying to get through the area to have to use the main road instead of some being able to cut through to Valley
#ItWasAScam
Using LTNs to export traffic from roads with high car ownership onto community roads where poor people and people of colour are more likely to walk, shop, work, learn & play was always a terrible idea. If you support LTNs you've been conned. Just accept it.
If you insist on driving, please burn as little fuel as possible

LTN academics, activists and councillors promised this traffic would "evaporate", would "disappear" after a few months of their traffic relocation scheme.

@GeorgeMonbiot
George, why have you ignored the obvious social, racial & environmental injustice of exporting traffic from roads with high car ownership onto community roads where poor people & people of colour are more likely to live, walk, shop, work, learn & play? 😢

Low traffic neighborhoods are not 'No traffic neighborhoods'; motorists still own and store cars inside LTNs, and drive out of LTNs to pollute surrounding roads. Those inside LTNs still order diesel van & moped same day deliveries, now forced to take longer more polluting routes.
@BenObeseJecty
They’re closing side roads with high car ownership, increasing congestion on community roads & Red Routes and forcing cars, vans, trucks etc to drive further and burn more fuel, so more NO2 & CO2 emissions.
They claim they're doing it to address climate change.
Yeah, right.
People on low income, people of colour, people with disabilities and women with children are more likely to rely on the bus.
Affluent, able bodied, middle aged men are more likely to cycle and to decide transport policy, like moving buses out of bus lanes to create cycle lanes.👇🏾
“These Low Traffic Neighbourhood road closures are effectively the Labour councillors privatising roads for themselves & their wealthy friends."
“At the last count 16 Labour councillors lived within these areas closed off from traffic."

There is something inherently wrong about a charity lobbying for a policy that results in the charity itself benefiting financially. Particularly when the policy/scheme is hugely unpopular with locals and has detrimental impacts on vulnerable groups.
@ChtyCommission
Sustrans under fire in today's Times for refusing to say how much of the £40m it has received in contracts from public bodies over the past 5 years has been for work on designing LTNs.
Do you see the children on the roads receiving traffic displaced by LTNs? We know the effects of increasing their
#airpollution
exposure. Why are so many adults supporting a scheme that intentionally creates severe congestion where our children live, walk, wait, learn & play? 😰
Is that 13 or 14 buses stuck in congested idling traffic?👇🏾
Will motorist switch to bus use when buses are delayed or will bus passengers switch to cars?
LTN activists tell us LTN boundary roads get only a minor increase in traffic 🤥 a median of 288 motor vehicles daily. 🙄
@peterwalker99
Is that it? Seriously? 3 years of imposed LTNs across London and the best your cycling academic can come up with is that people in four LTNs might, just might possibly, drive less.😂
How many extra vehicle miles driven by the diverted diesel delivery vans servicing those LTNs?🤦🏾
Hi Sadiq,
Why is
@MayorofLondon
's Walking & Cycling Commissioner sharing, with his 18,000 followers, unsubstantiated (& untrue) claims about the twitter accounts of people opposed to LTNs?
Is this to divert attention from tweets by LCC's Simon Still? 👇🏾
"Environmental racism, a form of systemic racism whereby communities of colour are disproportionately burdened with health hazards through policies and practices that force them to live in proximity to sources of toxic waste such as... major roads."
#LTNs
Just to put my point of view rather than lies attributed to me. You cant have situations where it’s Clean Air for a few. Unforgivable as those who’re already worse off to dump even more dirty air on them. This practice is repeated the world over & known as environmental racism
Starting at under £10, should cyclist be required by law to have a speedometer and adhere to safety speed limits?
Should fines be issued to cyclists who intentionally or recklessly interfere with the safety of others?
Hi Sadiq, you & I both know your tweet is incorrect and that so called 'Low Traffic Neighbourhoods' displace traffic from side roads to illegally polluted residential main roads 'managed' by TfL.
Please represent all Londoners, not just those who effectively lobby your office.🙏🏾
Do LTNs really reduce car use? Waltham Forest council review of 795 car owners living in the LTN area for more than a year:
15% increased usage
16% decreased usage
69% usage stayed the same
Just 1% reduction to car use for a £30m investment. 😲
Translation: We’re closing certain roads and relocating traffic to busier community roads. This will increase congestion, vehicle miles & emissions but a chosen minority will benefit. We’ll call this climate action and say those who oppose are harming our planet and kid’s future.
I'm delighted the

LTNs are not anti-car. LTNs are not part of the car-free movement.
LTNs are anti-delivery van drivers & tradesmen trying to take the shortest least polluting route.
LTNs are anti-bus users who are now delayed in manufactured congested traffic and exposed to more air pollution.
We need to give people a genuine choice of how to get around
For the last 3 years, TfL have prioritised cycling to the detriment of our most popular mode of transport - buses
To tackle climate change we need to make sustainable transport easier NOT harder to use
🖌️
@davewalker
Blah, blah, blah as you close side roads with high car ownership and displace traffic & its pollution onto community roads where poor & BAME families are more likely to live, walk, work, learn & play.
That's not "world leading action" that's the climate &
#socialinjusticeofLTNs

Toxic air pollution truly is a matter of life or death - and in London we're taking world leading action to tackle it.
We won’t stop until every Londoner - and every child – can breathe clean air – no matter their background or class.
#Lab21
The Department for Transport confirm "LTNs don’t exist to reduce miles driven”, so they're not about reducing
#airpollution
or
#climatechange
as claimed by those lobbying to close their roads and relocate traffic to less affluent residential community roads & Red Routes.
In yet another blow to the credibility of LTNs, the Times reports the Goverment has admitted it has no evidence they cut the number of miles driven and therefore climate emissions. An official said "LTNs don’t exist to reduce miles driven”.
@HSscorecard
@imperialcollege
The study is SERIOUSLY flawed & needs to be withdrawn.
Sites categorised as ‘boundary roads’ were actually inside other LTNs.
And ‘control sites’ were actually the boundary roads of other LTNs.
This will dramatically skew the numbers to the point where a fall should be a rise.
Labour councils refusing to mention LTNs for fear of haemorrhaging votes will quickly claim they have a mandate to impose LTNs if they win in May.
Wouldn't it be refreshing if councillors were voted in based on what they actually plan to deliver.
@estwebber
It is notable that key LTN boroughs do not seem to be referencing LTNs at all in campaign leaflets, or even in manifestos.
There is an issue of democratic deficit here, as many support walking or cycling improvements such as cycle lanes, but do not see LTNs as in this category.
A 'war on cars'... that benefits affluent car owners by relocating traffic from their high car ownership roads onto Red Routes, delaying buses and making the switch from car to public transport unworkable.
#socialinjusticeofLTNs
