Why, oh why, are these absolute idiots unable to understand that roads are paid for from council taxes and the general tax budget, that we all pay for, and that VED is purely a tax on vehicle pollution? What next, a pedestrian tax for pavements? Bloody clowns.

@gt2andy @MikeyCycling @markvauxhall @UB1UB2 Let's look at a scenario. You're on a road with 60mph limit, you catch up to a car doing 40, without a limit you might think you can overtake before the upcoming blind bend and floor it. With a limiter you know you'd never make it and you'd have to calmly sit behind. Much safer.

@KeithMillsD7 You obviously mean Vehicle Excise Duty, which has been based on exhaust emissions for more than 20 years. How much internal combustion engine exhaust does a cyclist produce? Cycling is actually more efficient than walking, should pedestrians pay an additional pavement tax?

As long as when car drivers speed, park on pavements or cycle lanes, use their phones, drive uninsured or untaxed, or just operate their vehicle dangerously, take their cars off them. Sounds fair.

@TonyGriffonbrx There was no whining, just an explanation to crap drivers why cyclists take primary position when cycling beside parked cars. The only whining is from you.

@chezpim Population of New Zealand is 4.917 million, an island nation of 268,021 km², with strict border controls. Population of London, UK, just one city, is almost double that of NZ, at 8.982 million in an area of just1,572 km² and with no border control.

@IanSommerville @david_mccraw Cows kill way more people than cyclists every year, you're much more likely to end up in A&E from DIY, gardening or just slipping over in your bathroom. Drivers, on the other hand, kill 5 people and seriously injure 63 more every single day in the UK. But cyclists, eh?

Ten people tragically die as a result of a police helicopter crashing into a pub; massive enquiry, lessons learned, prevent from reoccurrence. Ten people die on UK's roads every two days... Tumbleweed.

@cllr_hudson As you are a councillor I would expect you to be reasonably informed and fully understand taxation, transport, assessment of risk, health, pollution, the environment, etc. as that is what you are employed to do. Perhaps start now?

This is how hatred is spread Susan, you make the people you disagree with into a group and then you are able to make them 'other', to dehumanise them. They're no longer Mums, Dads, husbands, wives, brothers or sisters, they're all cyclists, all of them law breakers and dangerous.

This man has no clue on how punishment works. The people being punished are the ones with respiratory diseases and their families, the children with stunted lung development, the families and friends of the people killed on our roads and those that are left with shattered lives.

I’m backing a fuel duty freeze. Whilst it’s critical we target zero-carbon by 2050, hard-working Brits who rely on their cars shouldn’t be punished. Glad to support this campaign alongside my colleague @halfon4harlowMP

@JohnJohnStewart @peterwalker99 @hoxtonrich Oh, how blinkered you are. Cycle infrastructure and LTNs are not being built for cyclists; I've been a cyclist since I was 11, I have cycled without any of that. They're being built for people; thousands more people are now cycling and walking because they want to.

@Popssmith1 Do we really need to tolerate these clowns on the road. The UK is a nightmare with irresponsible drivers. Provide roads, they don't use them. They drive and park on the footpaths, ignore zebra crossings, kill 5 people a day, seriously injure 63 more, the list is endless.

I too am a veteran, I had arthritis in both hips (I had one replaced in April, one to go) I too ride a recumbent tandem, these barriers are all over the UK, they exclude anyone from riding anything other than a standard, unladen bicycle, they are an anathema to active travel.

@GooseCG The best story I know about a stolen bike was my mate who always stopped at the newsagent on his way into work and propped his bike, unlocked, against the window. One morning a young scroat grabbed it and rode off... Until the first corner...

@MetCycleCops This is a ‘professional’ driver who knew the consequences before he took the action. Not only that but he obviously does not understand the concept of consequences as he already had six points. When are we going to start handing out appropriate sentences to wilful law breakers?!

@HelenNickols @veloevol I have reported it, it openly names an individual and is clearly being used to obtain funds to target an individual who is doing something that police not only recommend, but also many forces have portal dedicated to making such reports, thereby obviously breaking zero laws.

More and more I wonder how someone who hasn't driven a car for years is allowed to get in one and drive on a road alongside cyclists and pedestrians. Time for a compulsory driving test every 5 years if you are on the roads? For everyone's safety. How does that sound?

And more and more now I wonder how someone who hasn't ridden a bike for years is allowed to jump on one and cycle on a road alongside cars and buses. Time for a compulsory bike proficiency test if you are on the roads? For our own safety as much as anything?

@HalOsler Hal, who was more at risk, you on the wide pavement with cyclists going past with a speed of maybe 15mph, or cyclist riding on a metre of paint with tonnes of metal going past at 40mph? Most cycle provision in UK is inadequate box ticking, and sometimes downright dangerous.
