@cheerfulclips
It’s me in the blue shirt. The young lad isn’t autistic, he has Down’s syndrome. I’m also not his dad, although I’d be proud to be. This left me with tears in my eyes for a few evenings.
@TheFigen_
That's Ibrahim, the young lad I work with. He doesn't have autism, but Downs Syndrome. He's an awesome kid, I'm not his father although I'd be proud to be. I'm his Uncle Mike. Great soldier made our day. I nearly shat myself when he stepped closer to us.
@CalltoActivism
Thanks very much! It's me with Ibrahim. This was such a special day for us, the best day we had together this year. Ibrahim is delighted with all the attention and loved seeing the Blues and Royals.
@JeremyClarkson
@snevinoj
I think you knew exactly what you were doing, and I think you're a terrible person. I think you were that same horrible person throughout much of your life, including when punching producers.
Have you seen this,
@MPSRoyal_Parks
? I thought flying a drone in the Royal Parks was massively illegal and I remember reading about a £1,500 plus fine for someone who flew down North Carriage Drive?
WHAT THE HELL — using a drone for today's early cycle ride, and it got taken out by a hawk or red kite in HYDE PARK FFS. Smashed to bits, £400 gone in a second 🤬🤬🤬
COURT RESULT - his licence was Taycan.
He was on 9 points already, so totted up and was disqualified. Very wealthy man, tried an unconvincing exceptional hardship plea, got disqualified. Magistrates took maybe 3 minutes for verdict.
£259 fine
£300 costs
£104 surcharge
Skateboarding is an excellent hobby, let them get on with it. They're doing no harm and having a good time with their friends. FFS man, get a bloody grip. Miserable old sod.
@robtibbles
@DC_RPT
They weren’t breaking the law. The speed limit doesn’t apply to cyclists. That’s probably quite reasonable when a bicycle weighs maybe 10kg and an average car 1.5-2 tonnes.
@pcmancini
@CalltoActivism
Thanks very much! Just spent another lovely afternoon with Ibrahim. We did an interview about this for TV, and then went cycling on my tandem and had an icecream. He was as happy as anything!
@rwhitehouse13
It's a nightmare. My O.H. is one ticket away from losing his license because of a new sites camera in the fal-Helston road. For doing 35 in a 30 limit repeatedly in a wide straight piece of road. He is a key worker. There r no buses, he'd lose his job and have to sign on...
To give the lie to all this "jumped on his bonnet" rubbish, here's a top down view. He's pushing me back, he drives into me several times, eventually I have to hold on to save myself from going under his car. I never go forwards to his car.
They were blocking the whole path, so I slowed right down. Sometimes pedestrians don't like to share when they are using a shared pavement. I'd never put anyone in danger, but I'm not going to accept being scolded when I'm doing nothing wrong and am super careful around her.
This is a 15 min city. It’s one of the very nicest places to live that you can imagine. There are quite a few places here where you can’t drive your car, but you’re not a prisoner, quite the opposite. People are free to really love their best life.
Good morning everyone! Today is my Dad's birthday, and also the day he was killed by a drink driver back in 1991 in Zimbabwe. I remember the pain and grief well, but it has all mostly faded. What's left is happiness for the time I did have with him, because 2/
Can’t run on footpath as completely blocked for half mile by
#cyclists
parked up for a Sunday peddle. If only there was a way for people to use the bikes to travel to the destination.
@Parklikeatwatuk
Honestly, I'm absolutely tired of people hating on cyclists. The UK has a deep sickness in society with cycle hatred. Myself and all the other cyclists now have to put up with increased danger and dangerous driving on the roads as a direct result of all of this stupidity.
@DavidGHFrost
I'm from the Netherlands, Frostie, and we're doing rather a lot better than the UK thanks. Part of that is because we don't waste as much on cars.
Woooohoooo! TfL TPH have asked me to spend 4 hours a week looking specifically at cab and PHV driver behaviours, particularly mobile phone use. They'll be paying me to do this. It'll include those on active taxi ranks, and those using dashmounted phones whilst driving.
Caught four drivers on the phone yesterday, all whilst riding along. One was a taxi driver, told me to get away, another did the most amazing hot potato drop, and another I wished a Merry Christmas, but I'm still reporting all four.
Caught 13 drivers today, one was a cabbie, one was a very sweary woman in 8888EM - "Mind your fskingbusiness". LOL, I'm sure the magistrates will be delighted with your language.
I'm now at
1,503 motorists reported
2,053 penalty points
£117,446 fines+costs+surchage
Those fines and points are only a fraction of the results I know about. Many cases I have no confirmed results for.
@RichmondRCMP
Your focus is wrong and ill-guided. You need to police drivers if you want road safety. Here's one of your colleagues with all the hiviz and it didn't help her.
So today I'm up to:
803 penalty points
£50,148 in fines+costs
20 Driver awareness courses
5 disqualified drivers
All for the reports I made during 2019. There are still a few more to come.
@MerPolTraffic
That’s not the law, and you know it. Few cyclists can break urban speed limits, not many. Drivers are far more law breaking and dangerous and careless than cyclists. So no, I won’t be cycling like drivers drive. Your tweet is almost all wrong.
An anonymous follower sent me this image from his morning's ride. He needed to have a sit down and a cup of tea after that. I'm so impressed he stayed upright, and then I needed a hot cuppa too after thinking about it for a bit. What's the betting this is a taxi?
FWIW I think Rod Liddle is an oxygen thief. Why? Because some years ago I believe he suggested putting barbed wire across cycling trails to take cyclists out at the neck. Deeply nasty. Let's be more like the Netherlands, please. Better for society, better for drivers and us all.
Wow just had a phone driver assault me. I’m fine, broken bits on the Brompton and cuts and scrapes on my legs that I’ve noticed so far. Tried to steal the camera. Called 999 and made a report. He was a huge bloke.
Remember that assault from 2 weeks ago? The officer dealing with it found a witness, and I've just returned my signed statement. Next step - arrest enquiry. Very impressed with this officer.
@RMCunliffe
I'm sorry that happened to you, and you have my sympathies. Please don't treat us as all the same. I don't hold you responsible for Kenneth Noye, the road rage murderer just because you're also a driver. Don't hold me responsible for the specific cyclist you encountered.
I just got back the first conviction result for a taxi driver I caught on the phone under the new TfL rules. It feels, well, weighty and much more serious than other phone driving cases. TfL rules still seem a little on the harsh side to me. It went to court, fine £200, victim…
Thanks to everyone who watches! I hope that together we've made a small difference to road safety, encouraging drivers to take more care and all road users to consider using cameras and report road crime.
Today I pulled out of a cycle lane to go around 3 cars parked in it, and then got beeped by a jag driver who was speeding and who then swerved at me to teach me a lesson. Apparently I'm not allowed to cycle in the "car lane". Well, I'll be reporting your driving shortly.
What she is doing is legal. What you're doing is illegal. Seems to be on "my" patch too. If I video you taking pictures with your phone, you'll be reported. If convicted, TfL will take your green badge. I suggest you stop using your phone, Kevin.
And that's me done, hopefully no more reports for the rest of the year. 375 drivers reported to the Met this year, more than some people and less than others. Feels like holiday season now! Woooohooooo!
This driver, stationary, was busy texting and then drove forwards, still texting. Right across the pedestrian crossing and I bet he didn't even see the pedestrians. Don't tell me stationary phone use isn't dangerous and shouldn't be prosecuted.
@theJeremyVine
On the way to a meeting, and two Mercedes drivers come past me, both holding phones. I catch up to them maybe a mile later and BAM BAM. Both of them on video with lit up phone in hand on TikTok videos. I caught them both in seconds - fast and surgical strikes.
@merseytart
More cyclists have been killed in London waiting at the traffic lights than have been killed jumping the red light. That's a sobering thought.
@fesshole
I do exactly this, but on a bicycle, and with cycle cameras. 13 bad drivers have gotten themselves disqualified in court as a result of my videos, and I'm up to about 1,500 penalty points and perhaps £80,000 in fines+costs.
I've just been emailed about another court appearance. The driver told me I should be wearing a helmet, whilst he was using his phone and driving without insurance.
Thanks to everyone supporting me re that fundraiser to "get me stopped." I'm super grateful, that kind of abuse seems harmless and funny, but it can so easily affect any of us. For now, I'm good, and strongly fortified by you all. :)
All the people thinking that camera cyclists cause hatred. No, friend. You haven't cycled in the days before cameras. The hatred has always been there. Now at least cameras tame drivers to some degree. They don't fix everything, but they certainly don't make it worse. Unless…
Got some more court results back for cases I wasn’t called for. Another SIX disqualifications. Yikes. Most of the rest got six points and various amounts of fines +costs +surcharge.
Several of the drivers I caught today were genuinely flummoxed at why I was filming their phone use. They showed every indication of feeling that they were completely in the right. Amazing. I guess they’ll find out then.
@LiamFox
You Tories are the unethical and unforgiveable pillagers of the NHS and UK. You and your mates have stolen the country dry and the result is you can't pay for services that we all need. I don't suppose you care much.
At least you won't be in power for long. General Election Now.
I have no sympathy for people complaining about speed limits. It’s completely clear that many drivers are incapable of judging what a safe speed is for themselves.
I've lived in London for 24 years, I love this city, and I have an investment in the quality of life and society here, just like all of us do. I don't agree when people tell me I'm a foreigner and because of that I shouldn't report road crime or involve myself. It's xenophobia.
@marksimsy
Were you to wave a magic wand and instantly make all cyclists behave perfectly, road KSI stats wouldn't change noticeably. Do the same for drivers instead, and you'll stop almost all traffic deaths and injuries. Do you see why I don't bother with cyclists now?
Too hot? Hot Potato mobile use from
@PimlicoPlumbers
here. Today at 14:47 on Battersea Bridge Road. Must pay your staff well if they are shopping for Balenciaga.
My stolen Brompton - robbed with force from my colleague, who was threatened with a knife. Pretty please retweet and keep an eye out on the roads and auction sites. The bike was mostly used by a young lad with special needs. Currently fitted with tan wall tyres. Unusual colours.
Since I woke up early anyway, might as well do some more reports before I have to leave. Just reported a PHV driver who told me to get a job. Ironically, if found guilty he's likely to be looking for a job as a single mobile phone offence is enough for TfL to revoke his licence.
Hello
@matthiggins1919
! Going to be having a bit of a nightmare weekend waiting for HR on Monday morning, I think.
@Parker_Direct
- Same profile picture from his Instagram. What makes you think you can say such hate speech?
@LauraEvansTeam
@AndyBurnhamGM
I'm from the Netherlands, and you seem rather deluded or dishonest to me, Laura. Cycle lanes don't cause congestion - they cure it. The more people that cycle, the better the roads get for everyone who actually needs to drive.
Just caught a phone driver, holding his phone on a speaker phone call and with satnav open. His caller, on the car speakers heard my voice and said “OMG CyclingMikey”. I guess the driver is about to learn all about it.
@binnahar85
Hatred of LGBT+ people is unacceptable and primitive. Your culture can be respected, but not this intolerance. Neither can your country's treatment of migrant workers and the other human rights abuses you are responsible for. Shame on you.
Enough is enough. That would be pretty much the entire reason I report bad driving and why I'm willing to go to court at considerable disruption to my life. It's why I'm willing to work late to make up that wasted court time when I have to.
Today people in Birmingham came together to say "Enough is Enough". Four people have been killed on our roads in the last month, two of whom have been children. Last week a child and their older sibling were run over on their way to school.
@for_birmingham
is demanding action
Just reported a phone driver who left a big WhatsApp gap as the queue moved off, and then realised and floored her large powerful SUV just as two motorcyclists filtered past. She had to swerve to avoid them. This is one reason why stationary phone use is still illegal.
@robskicyclist
There is no jaywalking in the U.K. just slow down and anticipate pedestrians. They are at the top of the road hierarchy. We are not, as cyclists.
