Today I'm cutting the cost of cycle parking in Lambeth so that a family of four is not penalised for choosing to cycle rather than drive.
From next week, it will cost ยฃ30 to park a bike in a hangar. By 2026, there will be 5000 spaces available.
60% of households in Lambeth donโt own a car.
Yet in 2022, 239 people were killed or seriously injured on our streets in Lambeth.
Car drivers usurp our public realm by taking up 94% of Lambeth's kerbside space.
Car drivers have all the rights.
Classic Tory disinformation.
Some before and after shots of Van Gogh walk in Lambeth, showing what is possible when we put our hearts and minds in to creating liveable neighbourhoods. Look forward to seeing many more of these, and not just in Lambeth!
This is the Lambeth we're building: low traffic streets with public places to enjoy fish & chips etc.
Three new public tables on a buildout as part of a new filter in Oval LTN. Safe, fun, convenient, affordable, delicious โ ๐

My aunt just posted these photos on Facebook about an hour ago. It shows flood waters in my grandparentโs dining room in Sylhet, Bangladesh. Theyโre living with 1.1 degrees right now. And Rishi Sunak thinks motorists have it hard. Let that sink in.
There is expected to be a air quality alert tomorrow because there is not enough wind to take away London's dirty air.
Please leave your car or van at home & travel sustainably to protect others, especially older residents & those with lung/heart conditions.
Today we're announcing details of Streatham Wells LTN that will reduce traffic noise, danger & pollution for more than 15,000 Lambeth residents. Roads near the LTN will also benefit as part of this whole-area upgrade for Streatham.
We know there's disruption in the short term with every LTN, but with safe streets the unexpected creative and community outcomes are so amazing to see!
LTNs help to give people choices abt how they travel. The evidence shows that with this freedom, people living inside an LTN reduce their average car use by 6.4% ๐ถโโ๏ธ๐ด๐คธโโ๏ธ
Signs for Brixton Hill LTN start being installed today, but the scheme will go live at start of September ๐ณ
This plan for drivers is another example of culture wars rhetoric from this lame duck govt. No plan for road danger reduction, walking, cycling, climate or air pollution. No plan for anyone else. Why not give everyone a say and call a general election now.
So happy to see Brixton Hill LTN go live today. The traffic order is now in force. Signs, filters & cameras should all be installed before the weekend.
LTNs are central to our work making our neighbourhoods safer, quieter & fit for the future ๐ณ

Today we're announcing 32 more school streets across the borough before 2026, on top of the 24 already in place.
This means families can safely use the streets by a school at drop-off & pick-up times, & are more likely to walk, scoot or cycle to school ๐ด๐ณ๐คธ
Today we're launching a bold new masterplan for Waterloo station. It's going to be the hub of the neighbourhood with a new public realm as well as sustainable, beautiful streets and greenery all around.

Today, we've decided to make Larkhall Rise bridge traffic filter permanent ๐ฅณ
The scheme has been remarkably successful. Across the area, motor traffic down by 22% & cycling up by 184%.
This is one of many improvements we've been making to cycleway 5.
Letโs see if they celebrate this much when global temperatures reach 1.5 degrees and we experience extreme heatwaves and frequent flooding. All because a few demand to drive wherever they wantโฆ.
Weโre expanding the number of School Streets in Lambeth to protect pupils, their families, school staff & local residents.
By 2026 weโll have 62 School Streets covering 85% of our primary schools, greatly reducing the levels of road danger & toxic air.
No-one should die or be seriously hurt as they go about their business. It is not normal or acceptable that this happens now.
We're preparing a road danger reduction reduction strategy for Lambeth to transform our main roads & protect everyone.
Lambeth have had to spend ยฃ310,000 to repair vandalism to LTN infrastructure. What a waste of public money to clean up after these vandals who tried to destroy our public realm.

We're going to install 89 new benches around Clapham Common following a kind bequest of Stuart Westward, a local resident.
The benches are beautiful & help the park to be accessible. Just one of the ways we're working to make our parks brilliant for everyone.
I'm planning to make a series of traffic restrictions and street improvements in Waterloo permanent to support local businesses and make the area better for local people ๐๐ผ

Woop woop! We planted 306 trees in February achieving a net gain of 288 trees in Lambeth. And more being planted in the biggest tree planting programme in Lambeth Council's history. ๐ณ๐ณ๐ณ
The council isn't only rolling out filters, but more:
- trees
- raingardens
- wider pavements
- continuous pavements
- bike hangars
- enforcing of illegal parking
- seating
- parklets
- bus lanes & gates
- a23 bike lanes
- St'm-Peck'm cycleway
- 20mph limits

Delighted to launch the Community Fund Parklets scheme today. We promised Healthier Neighbourhoods & great public spaces across our borough so we're funding Londonโs biggest community parklet programme, to have a parklet in every ward in Lambeth
The mayor and his officers have won the judicial review seeking to delay the expansion of the Ultra Low Emission Zone to Greater London.
The time for delays is over. We must act now to clean London's air.
The most comprehensive study of LTNs concludes that LTNs significantly reduce the amount of motor vehicles within their boundaries without appearing to push traffic on to boundary roads
Lambeth is committed to being a borough with social justice at its heart, but road danger disproportionately affects people living in and travelling through our most deprived areas. We're striving to create a Lambeth that is fit for the future ๐ณ๐ด๐ถโโ๏ธ๐ป๐ท๐

We must reduce and remove danger from our roads. We're developing a holistic road danger reduction strategy for Lambeth to do this.
TfL will be lowering speed limits on their network in Lambeth to 20mph just before Christmas this year.
Great news! Weโre installing 50 cycle hangars across Lambeth by April, with space for another 300 people to store their bikes safely, helping with the shift away from car use so we all benefit from cleaner air. ๐ดโโ๏ธ๐ฒ๐ณMore details here
We have some of the most dangerous roads in London here in Lambeth. We're working hard to make our streets & neighbourhoods safer putting people first, & tackling the twin threats of toxic air pollution & road danger.
Even one death on our roads caused by a collision is too many, but the fact that these collisions disproportionally affect people in deprived areas is simply unjust.
20mph, bike lanes, LTNs help reduce road danger - creating a safer, fairer city for all.

An uneasy alliance of cranks, trots and tankies, obsessed with all member meetings, fantasy motions about South America and endless points of order was never really going to get much done, let alone actually run a political party, was it? Off you trot.
The Labour Party is run ghouls utterly uninterested in progressive change.
Their main aim - beyond self aggrandisement and lobbying contracts - is to deny democracy and prevent socialism.

Lambeth Council is using satellites to map where land in the borough is permeable or not. Therefore, where we need to focus our ยฃ6m raingarden programme.
This approach means we can efficiently target areas with high flood and heat risk or lacking wildlife and greenspace.

This engagement has fed into designs that the whole community can be proud of. This is part of an ongoing transformation of Streatham streets, making them cleaner, greener & safer.
Look out for more engagement during the LTN trial & regarding the whole suite of improvements.

The recent LTN trial showed the transport challenges in the area and what we need to be doing with partners to get Streatham fit for the future.๐
Devastated that the cedar tree on Tulse Hill road is going to come down this week. It's on private land & has a tree protection order, but is dying & at risk of falling on people or traffic. We're planting 32 trees on that road & adjacent land this year, including a new cedar!
Details of our engagement &consultation for the LTN can be found in 148 pages over two reports, but to summarise:
