Dear
@Marriott
: The Fitness center at your NYC Times Square hotel has TV fixed on “Fox News”— a network that promotes anti-American, pro-Russian propaganda. The manager of the facility says he can’t change the channel, it is set by you. This is deeply offensive.
This was never about plagiarism, or Harvard, and certainly not antisemitism (today's right is the embodiment of bigotry in all its forms). It's about taking down academia, the largest remaining obstacle to their fascist remaking of America
Death Valley hit 130°F this hour, breaking all-time reliably measured world heat record of 129.9°F set August 16, 2020 at the same site. To see the obs, choose 24 hours and click Decoded Data from this link: . Final high may be higher; Saturday even hotter?
REPORTER: The US has 4 percent of the world's population and 30 percent of the Covid-19 cases. What would you have done differently?
TRUMP: "Well, nothing."
They’re scared of you
@GretaThunberg
. THEY are scared of YOU. Stay strong my friend. We need your continued leadership. And to all of the adults:
We’ve got to have these kids backs! And we have to lead too! We can’t put it all on the children.
It seems they will cross every possible line to avert the focus, since they are so desperate not to talk about the climate and ecological crisis.
Being different is not an illness and the current, best available science is not opinions - it’s facts. ->
We still have an ozone layer because we phased OUT (rather than phase DOWN) CFCs.
We still hear birdsong in spring because we phased OUT (rather than phase DOWN) DDT.
A livable climate requires that we phase OUT rather than phase DOWN fossil fuels.
There are formidable forces aligned against a fossil fuel "phaseout" at the upcoming UN climate talks.
Among them, the conference host, the oil-rich UAE, favors a much-vaguer pledge to “phase down” fossil fuels.
To be clear, take the fossil fuel industry-funded disinformation campaign out of the equation & the climate problem would have been solved decades ago. So don't tell me the problem is hopelessly complicated. Our politics may be hopefully compromised-but that's different matter.
So this is what folks in these parts (southeastern ‘stralia) call an “east coast low”. good news is fires are out. bad news is torrential flooding & bushfire ash flowing into rivers, killing off fish & polluting the water supply.
Welcome to dangerous climate change. It’s here.
Imagine if Russia weaponized one of our two major parties (and its base) to destroy America--and ultimately, western democracy--from within, and the media simply set up a popcorn stand to make short-term profits from the affair.
Hey climate change deniers: You're not funny, you're not interesting, and you're not relevant.
It's time for you to go away and let the rest of us attend to the tremendous damage you've already caused and the terrible mess that you've already created.
Finally here. Thank you everyone who came to see me off in Plymouth, and everyone who welcomed me in New York! Now I’m going to rest for a few days, and on Friday I’m going to participate in the strike outside the UN.
Never before has there been such a stark contrast between a candidate (
@JoeBiden
) who embraces science and one (
@realDonaldTrump
) who disdains and rejects it.
So Scientific American.
YES. SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN
has endorsed Joe Biden for President:
I've never blocked so many climate denier bots (all no photo, first-name-plus-bunch-of-numbers accounts) as past 24 hours. There is an orchestrated effort underway right now to hijack the online climate discourse.
Proving my original point, the right wing attack dogs behind Claudine Gay's ouster are now circling the wagons to defend Neri Oxman (a tenured prof at MIT) for precisely the same infraction. Because they are fundamentally dishonest and entirely malicious in their intent.
This was never about plagiarism, or Harvard, and certainly not antisemitism (today's right is the embodiment of bigotry in all its forms). It's about taking down academia, the largest remaining obstacle to their fascist remaking of America

show tonight: a) Democrats could pass climate legislation through reconciliation (simple majority) and b)
@JoeBiden
could declare climate an "emergency" which grants him greater latitude in executive actions on climate.
So disingenuous. What got us into this mess was our dependence on fossil fuels and the power thus attained by petrostates like Russia and Saudi Arabia. Fossil fuel spinmeisters are trying to gaslight you (pun-intended) with Orwellian counter-narratives about renewables instead.
It's not sulphate aerosols.
It's not the Tonga eruption.
It's not unicorns or fairy dust.
It's human-caused warming from carbon pollution (plus a sizeable natural swing from La Nina-to-El Nino)
Right now outside the Massachusetts State House.
This crowd is calling for the Governor to reopen the state.
While packed tightly together, with many not wearing masks.
Remember folks, this was always a "catch-and-kill" operation, leveraged by funding from two petrostates, Saudi Arabia and Russia. They want this one-time tool for democratization to wither on the vine. Musk is helping ensure that:
Sorry
@ScottMorrisonMP
, but YOU are the one who 'doesn't know what he's talking about' on climate.
Oh, and I'm a

We have ice shelves breaking off of Antarctica that are the size of Rhode Island. We have wildfires in California the size of Rhode Island.
Maybe we should start measure climate change impacts in units of

New poll shows majority of Americans (56%) see climate change as an "emergency".
Broken down by party, it's:
Democrats: 84%
Republicans: 18%
I guess that means Republicanism is an emergency.
We have ZERO years left to take action. Ten years is (an overly conservative estimate of) when we cross into dangerous territory in the absence of immediate action on climate.
Thank you,
@NancyPelosi
.
We have 10 years left to plan and implement a Green New Deal before cataclysmic climate disaster.
Reinstating the Select Committee is exactly what we need to do.
My greatest climate concern is upcoming

elections. If we lose our Democracy, we won't get it back. W/out climate leadership from U.S. (world's largest historical polluter), global climate action will falter.
Vote like a livable planet depends on it. Because it does.
Don’t let the haters get you down Greta. It simply speaks to how effective you’ve been and the threat you pose to polluting interests. That’s why they have released their attack dogs on you. Be strong my friend. The planet hangs in the balance...
A letter to Chief Justice Roberts that the NYT has had for months accuses Justice Alito of leaking the outcome of the Hobby Lobby decision to anti-abortion donors who dined at his house. Contemporaneous emails corroborate the story; Alito denies it.
@ECOWARRIORSS
Where were the climate scientists twenty years ago? Even the average meteorologist must have had some inkling of what was going on
#ClimateCatastrophe
This is highly misleading framing
@7NewsSydney
! The unprecedented heat & drought are the primary reason we're seeing such extensive, intense, fast-spreading bushfires across the continent.
I'm right here in Sydney for next several months & would be happy to come on and explain!
Police are now working on the premise arson is to blame for much of the devastation caused this bushfire season. A strike force will investigate whether blazes were deliberately lit, and bring those responsible to justice.

"Tony Heller (pseudonym Steven Goddard) doesn’t just believe climate change is a “fraud” and a “scam”, but has promoted conspiracy theories about the Sandy Hook school massacre."
Absolutely disgusting.
Climate deniers are often simply awful people.
Folks continue to ask me how much warming is dangerous. Is it 1.5C? Is it 2.0C? I think we now have to recognize that dangerous warming HAS ARRIVED--in California, Puerto Rico, Europe, India, Japan, Australia...
It's simply a matter of how much worse we're willing to let it get.
Hey
@NYTimes
: I was looking for your story/stories about Gorsuch's acts of plagiarism, but having a hard time finding. Can you please send me the link? Thanks!
Ronald Reagan signed the Montreal Protocol to ban ozone-depleting CFCs.
George HW Bush created a cap & trade program to rid coal-fired power plants of acidic SO2.
Ozone depletion & acid rain were addressed because "conservatives" then actually believed in conservation.
Since the Koch Brothers seem so interested in my emails (), I've made them available to everyone--contextualized so climate deniers might actually learn something 🙂
Have at it:
The lesson here is that plagiarism is not a disqualifying offense (it's just "borrowing" from others, after all) if you're a powerful, conservative white male.
Wow --
@JayInslee
using his entire closing statement to emphasize that (a) climate change is the single greatest challenge we (b) taking on the fossil fuel industry is essential if we are to move toward a clean energy economy & defeat climate change.

All of the noise right now from the climate change denial machine, the bots & trolls, the calls for fake "debates", etc.
Ignore it all.
Deniers are desperate for oxygen in a mainstream media environment that thankfully is no longer giving it to them.
Report, block. Don't engage.
Yes I'm a scientist. I also care about things like fairness, equality and sustainability, and I'm deeply concerned about the wave of ignorance, fascism, racism, misogyny and intolerance on the right and how it threatens all of those things. If that bothers you, don't follow me.
The performative outrage is actually a twofer for the
@GOP
, both (1) furthering their attack on academia (which they've long perceived as a threat) and (2) serving as a shield to deflect attention from their endemic and overt antisemitism, racism, misogyny & bigotry.
Mr. Caldwell dismisses

What starts a wildfire is immaterial to how extensive, damaging & deadly it becomes--that's determined by fuel load (enhanced by climate-driven heat & drought). So when someone cries "arson" as a means of deflection, you know they're a denialist tool.
Won't name names though.
One diversionary tactic of climate deniers is to talk about what starts fires (e.g. lightning strike, arson, etc) rather than what determines their SIZE and INTENSITY (the amount of fuel, which is enhanced by heat & drought). I discussed on
