What started in the Reddit echo chamber is now echoing around the country.
Junior Doctors have been forced into action on an unprecedented scale due to 15 years of real pay cuts.
@SteveBarclay

Enough is enough! Doctors, rail workers and other public sector workers should not shoulder the burden of austerity 2.0! Organise, stand up for yourself and demonstrate your value!

Will

@ShaunLintern
Junior Doctors are due to go on strike in England for 96 hours starting Tuesday 11th April.
There’s still time to for
@SteveBarclay
to meet
@BMA_JuniorDocs
at the table and put forward a credible offer to prevent the strikes.
Will he?
This caller is spot on. The money is there for Full Pay Restoration.
£1bn for FPR is affordable, yet the government chooses to spend £2bn on sustaining the strikes.
'This country has plenty of money, it's just being misappropriated.'
This caller tells
@NickFerrariLBC
that funding for 'a hefty pay rise' for junior doctors exists, but is being misspent.
No funding for Anaesthetist specialty training jobs, but a seemingly unlimited pit of money for anaesthetic associates.
I’m yet to hear an argument for how this could possibly be in the interest of patients…
This nurse is saying what we’re all thinking as terrified patients
Small online vocal minority doesn’t seem that small anymore. Certainly is getting more and more vocal day by day.
Inspirational from this amazing lady.
@FullFact
They earned £14.09 per hour when the dispute started, and now they earn £15.53 per hour.
This isn't some "gotcha" moment and I don't think FullFact should be straying into these attempts anyway.
Perhaps it was naive to expect neutrality.
@VictoriaAtkins
You didn’t wait for the barristers to call off strikes to negotiate.
The Scottish government didn’t wait for their doctors to call off strikes to negotiate.
Please stop playing games and make us a credible offer so we can avert these strikes.
During my nightshift I walked onto AMU to fill up my water bottle. Drank as I was walking out because I’m busy, and a patient I’ve never met said “I hope you choke on it!!!” 🤣
A health service run for the benefit of Doctors? 😂 which ones? The doctors on £14ph or the ones on £16ph?
The Doctors who pay £1500 for compulsory exams or the ones paying £500 for the privilege of using a mandatory ePortfolio?

It’s like blaming a defeat on a striker missing a last-minute penalty when you’re already 15-0 down ⚽️
PM
@RishiSunak
is mocking the intelligence of the British public by suggesting that restoring doctors' pay could somehow spike inflation.
Expert economists clearly disagree and it appears he is setting up excuses for when he fails in meeting several of his 5 priorities 🤦♂️

Rishi Sunak says giving our nurses, doctors & teachers inflation busting pay rises will bake in inflation or even accelerate it. Its just complete boll**** & he knows it! A claim rubbished by most economists
These are the FACTS he doesn’t want you to know

I guess even media training doesn’t help explain why on day 1 a physician’s associate (2 years training) earns 35% more than a doctor (5 years training) when it’s doctors who supervise and prescribe for PAs.
It really is scandalous.

@ShaunLintern
Shaun I’m afraid the cost of strikes will be a recurring one unless government engage in negotiations in good faith & produce a credible offer.
I hope that can be avoided, but doctors are ready to strike for as long as it takes.
This is £3bn+ recurring vs £1bn recurring (FPR).
Maybe keep GMC numbers for doctors only so patients and staff aren’t deceived?
Maybe consider not having the exclusive regulator for doctors regulating PAs/AAs?
Maybe find a regulator that is willing to regulate, not just register?
@drcolinm
2/3 Like doctors, PAs & AAs will have a responsibility to clearly communicate who they are, & their role in the team. The GMC reference number has been raised in this context. We’re considering how to make it as easy as possible for anyone to identify individual registrants & to…
Turns out the best way to get well paid as a Junior Doctor is to not be a doctor but just work as one.
AHPs: please do not undermine our strike action by taking on additional shifts during strike days. Consultants can and will provide safe cover.
So here we have
@UHNM_NHS

No Doctor should get paid less than £19ph. Even that is an absolute bargain for the tax payer.

The story is that the public aren't aware that a FY1 (1st year Doctor) earns £14 per hour. He could be taking home less than £1700 as a full time Dr in London. You don't need to be a gambler living in Knightsbridge to struggle on that. Below is a payslip of a FY2 (2nd year Dr)
@rcpsych

Today’s announcement from the government that they still haven’t planned fair and reasonable negotiations.
It is the fault of government that these strikes have been announced.
It is not too late for them to be averted. Make Doctors and Consultants a credible offer.

It is hugely disappointing that you think Junior Doctors deserve another large real pay cut this year on top of the 26.1% they lost from 2008 to 2022.
Nothing about your offer is fair or reasonable.
You have betrayed doctors and patients Steve.
The ball is in your court 📉

industrial action.
The first strike action will take place from 7am on 20 December to 7am on 23 December. The second will take place from 7am on 3 January until 7am on 9 January.
Politicians have gone from hailing doctors as heroes just a couple of years ago, to suggesting they will sack doctors for exercising their legal right to strike.
If a 26% real pay cut wasn’t enough, Sunak and Barclay now want to hit doctors with a P45.
It’s disgusting.
There are no shortcuts in Medicine, except for when the government want them.
Do patients really want to be anaesthetised by someone who has done 2 years of training instead of 7-14?
How many patients are aware they are being seen by non-doctors when they see a PA or AA?
As little as £15ph to work on New Year’s Day.
My non-medical friends are shocked when they hear I won’t be receiving a penny extra for working on NYD.
They’re completely baffled when they hear that the lowest paid staff in hospital will be the doctors who have £100k debt.
Wishing all NHS staff a Happy New Year! In my opinion *ALL* undervalued, worst of all our junior doctors & the future of UK medicine- look at NYDs disgraceful rates of pay👇

@wesstreeting
thinks the BMA is “living on a different planet” because they want Doctors to start on £19ph and be on £38ph in their 10th year of work (+ 5-6 years study). I think that planet is called 2008. A planet when the Labour Party was in office…
The BMA will be balloting Junior Doctors on the demand that our pay rises to about £18/h in our first year of work, to £35/h in at least our tenth year of work.

thinks the BMA is being unreasonable, and has decided to go to war with us, in order to pay us less.

The cost of giving Junior Doctors the 35% pay rise they want is about £1bn. Before the current strike, the govt had already spent £2bn on refusing to reach a deal.

You’ve made a mockery out of the phrase “fair and reasonable”.
There is nothing reasonable about offering Doctors to get £0.70/hr back when their pay is down by over £6/hr.
It is not fair for the NHS to be subsidised by the goodwill and poor pay of Doctors.

Patients deserve an apology from
@RishiSunak
for exacerbating a workforce crisis that has led to a record 7.4 million on the waiting list.
More patients are suffering on England’s waiting list than live in Scotland and NI combined.
.
@TheBMA
’s 72hr strike is extremely disappointing and puts patient safety & work to cut waiting lists at risk.
At recent meetings with
@BMA_JuniorDocs
, we made a fair & reasonable opening offer & were discussing both pay & non-pay issues until they chose to end the talks.

Currently having a GMC number means you:
1) Are a medically qualified Doctor (with a medical degree)
2) Are regulated
We risk neither of the above being true going forwards.
How is that possibly in the public interest?!
So PAs are going to become regulated professionals without ever actually being regulated.... All the GMC are doing is keeping a list
This is seriously bad. Paves the way for prescribing, rads and limitless scope without any guardrails whatsoever!
Patients are being deliberately misled by AAs/PAs
“I think they assume you’re the anaesthetist… I don’t say I’m an anaesthesia associate.”
“That other job title” (physician assistant in anaesthesia) “never said that”, “cause it was just too long” and “just sounded ridiculous”
'An introduction to the AA role' from Lancaster University.
We have compiled excerpts from three talks by senior AAs. Names and other sources of identifiable information have been removed.
NHS Doctors: your employers are laughing at you. They boast about having well-being rooms on every floor of their office, while closing down your Drs Mess because “there’s nowhere else to have an inclusive rest area”. Time for change, time to strike, HARD! Are you

It appears “modernising” the NHS workforce is code for diluting standards.
It’s akin to mixing tin into sterling silver and hoping no one notices that their coins are no longer pure silver.
Are PAs are the 21st century’s tin?
'They are there to work alongside doctors not instead of doctors.'
Health Secretary Victoria Atkins reiterates 'regulations' on physician associates after the death of 30-year-old Emily Chesterton.
