I'm a doctor. My partner is a doctor. We are both at the same point in our training. We have no guarantee that we can live in the same area when we enter further training. We could end up opposite ends of the country. I've trained for years and the system couldn't care less.

This is the same month I paid £565 for exams that at the time gave me extra points for application. But after sitting exams and passing both, the college decided to remove the extra points I receive no reimbursement for these, despite the fact they are compulsory fir progression

MP salaries have risen by £20,000 since 2011 We are asking for full pay restoration for almost the same period of time. So @SteveBarclay can you explain why all MPs are worth a £20k pay increase but junior doctors are not?

I can't believe this time last year, I lost my job as a waiter. Then within a day started working at co-op. Then within 4 days got asked to start working as a doctor 4 months early because of a global pandemic.

I got paid £11 per hour as a waiter at uni. I'm now paid £13.50 per hour as a doctor. This is not meant as an insult to any waiters. But my responsibilities now as a doctor far outweigh those that I had when I waited tables, however my pay does not reflect this change

Final thought on NHS pay in general. The argument that medicine/care work is a ‘vocation’ (ie - we should pipe down and accept whatever we’re offered) belongs in the 1950s It’s a job - albeit one I’ve trained for 20 years to do and that I love. Claps alone don’t pay the rent

Had a student nurse call me overnight about a poorly child on the ward. She gave me an amazing SBAR. I found her afterwards to let them know and filled out their portfolio with my feedback. It made me realise how I need to give people positive feedback as a routine

It's a strange thing a junior doctors salary. Everyone thinks we're loaded. You tell them how much you really earn and it's met with 'well you'll earn more eventually' you explain how long that will be and how much debt. Then it's well it's more than others earn

My inbox is starting to fill with job vacancies for Australia £55k base salary for 76 hours per fortnight. OOH additional pay. Part relocation expenses paid. Visa sponsored. Less hours, for more pay, with more teaching and better weather. It's becoming hard to resist

Sometimes I worry that doing paediatrics I'll never see any adults again. Then I do a ward round and it involves asking what their favourite cereal is and it's coco pops and then the 2nd favourite is coco rice Then I realise I never need to see an adult again in my life

My beautiful nan died today. This was the last time I got to sit next to her and give her a cuddle in July 21. Last time I saw her was through a window in winter and my visit on Tuesday was cancelled due to a covid outbreak. I'm sorry you were alone. Give Grandad a hug for me x

I'm looking at cleaners, local services want £22p/h fair enough this is their worth. But why as a Doctor am I only worth £16? BTW I have nothing against cleaners earning this, my question is how doctors have become so devalued over time. PS it's not a vocation I pay rent & bills

What I have never understood with the rhetoric that we can afford to pay NHS staff higher wages. We are already paying it in agency/locum fees. Pay substantive posts appropriately, reduce your locum/agency spend.

I got told a 5pm discharge was inappropriate this week. We should aim for before 11. I was the only doctor on the ward. That morning I'd been with a sick patient for an hour whilst their systolic was 60. I finished my WR alone, made the decision another pt was fit for discharge

Please don't waste your money. Nuromol costs £4.99 for 16 tablets It contains just ibuprofen and paracetamol. Nothing else. (30p per tablet, 60p per dose) At tesco you can get 16 paracetamol for 29p And 16 ibuprofen for 39p (68p for exactly the same)

Imagine any other employer had the number of staff leaving that the NHS does. They would be having crisis meetings. Trying everything to hold on to staff, looking at what they had done wrong, what needs to change. What needs to be done better. Or they'd crash and burn.

The more I'm prescribing in GP the more I'm starting to realise the impact this can have on patients. I remember struggling to afford to pay the £10 medication. 2 weekly or monthly scripts are hugely costly for patients, sometimes no alternative. Prescriptions should be free

Why whenever I say I want to be a paediatrician do 9/10 people look at me with despair or sigh. It's becoming quite tiresome. I honestly can't think of a more rewarding career path. I know it's not for everyone but don't shoot me down because of it.

We're supposed to do a paper form for every cannula inserted (paperless notes) I asked why today? "Well we audit it" for what? "To see how often its completed" But no other reason that to check that the form has been filled out. Why waste everyone's time?

I got to see my nan today for the first time in months, through a window and only for 10 minutes she was too tired for any longer. But to see her face light up when she realised who I was made it all worth while. She even managed to blow me a kiss just like when I was a kid.

@surgicalscribe Except its not though is it. Very few jobs require you to constant rotate around large areas of the country with little choice in where that takes you I'm glad your happy to accept shitty conditions. I'm not and allowed to have an opinion on it

We were looking at start getting the bus to work as it's so convenient for most of our shifts. Turns out it will cost £8 per day each for a 20 min journey. On average about £340 a month for the both of us. It's cheaper for us to buy a second car. Public transport is broken

As a teenager I was expelled from my science classes, I didn't take one science A-level and I never wanted to go to university. Two degrees later and today my certificate for full registration as a medical practitioner arrived. I wonder what 15 year old me would say

Few weeks into GP I'm finding it clinically one of my hardest jobs. Maybe as its end of Foundation so expectation of myself is higher. But there is nowhere to hide, patients often want an answer there and then and often I won't know it. Which I try to explain.

Patient seen 2ww, during appointment another lesion noted that needs 2ww. Clinic can't take photograph as not in initial referral. Advised back to GP for another referral and another appointment. Make it make sense.

After a turbulent few years with lockdowns, horrible shift patterns, starting citalopram and since coming off. I became the heaviest I'd ever been in my life. In the last 75 days I've lost 12kg and in the best shape I've been in years. Thanks @6PackRevolution

The obsession with AM discharge is wrong. We should discharge once ready, most people are safe to go home in the afternoon/evening. Some are obviously not. I always prep my TTO/letter where known the day before, but I can't predict the future

The 4:1 competition ratio for IMT has been deliberately manufactured. The market is now flooded with SHO-level doctors who have no choice but to work cheap Trust grade contracts while they wait for a place to open up. We have a doctor shortage, but they won't let us train.

I think one thing that is never discussed enough with medical students, people considering medicine and the public. Is that we genuinely, as juniors, can not plan our life more than 4 months in advance(max) By the end of a rotation, sometimes not more than 3-4 weeks. It's tough

I have now got to a point where I am actively telling my loved ones to ask for a qualified HCP in their interactions with healthcare. I can not in good faith, pretend that a PA is a qualified substitute. I have no regrets telling my family to reject PA care in GP or ED settings.

Another patient almost refused me to cannulate them because I was a junior doctor. Once I explained I'd have easily done 300 this year. But I'm sure the surgical consultant would love to come and do it.

@Leaper81 No guarantee of progression. Many people can not get training posts around the country Will continue to be a 'junior doctor' for another 8 years. So will be a minimum of 13 years after I qualified as a doctor to become a consultant.

I supervised two medical students last night do a full medical clerking. It was only after they asked my grade. I've never seen two people look more disappointed as I explained I was an F1. Which meant I couldn't sign them off. (I hadn't realised this prior)
