As a hospital doctor in the NHS it is my
#PublicDuty
to tell you that the
@DailyMailUK
is wrong. The NHS is at breaking point, and all of its staff are working hard to save it
The worst experience was well-being team going around offering hot food (think after 2nd wave covid). We were told that the food was for ALL staff EXCEPT doctors
Few days later saw untouched food boxes in staff room - they would rather food go to waste then be given to doctors
This whole issue about doctors being excluded from staff areas is TOO COMMON.
It's gone on for too long. It's accepted by too many people.
Look at this. It is UNACCEPTABLE.
After todays debacle I’m thinking of withdrawing my membership to
@RCPhysicians
I don’t think it’s fit for purpose or representative of my views anymore
Absolutely fuming at Sarah Clarke’s tone deaf
@RCPhysicians
email bulletin on MAPs and the issues surrounding this. Seriously considering changing to
@RCPEdin
Last day as med reg
@NewhamHospital
tomorrow...
Here's a wonderful

photo of the wonderful weekend on call medical team
They don't win awards, there is no glory in what they do, but they work damn hard for every patient

Medical training fill rates by specialty - some good 100% fills but some very concerning vacancies too.
These figures are also artificial and don't reflect wider vacancies at consultant level nor do they fit with demand trusts see:
To complete ID checks for my next rotation I have to go to take a round trip journey of 4 hours!!!
Online ID check despite having all the documents did not go through and they won’t manually check
Only time I can do it is pre night shift.
Is rotational training even worth it?
We're continuing our work to improve the working conditions of
@NHSEngland
doctors.
Helping to make the NHS faster, simpler and fairer.
Health and Social Care Secretary
@VictoriaAtkins
explains how this is just the start 👇
@MedRegoncall1
I reckon asking for a meeting with the clinical director and GoSW about unsafe practice and escalating to tpd is warranted.
Why is a PA (who is working at reg level) asking an F2 to prescribe alteplase anyway… should be reg or consultant given the risks.
@DoctorPonglenis
I think there should be fines imposed on Trusts whenever there are shifts unfilled…. Same way Trusts are terrified by ED patients breaching etc etc
@campbellclaret
Is it time to fund
@GoodLawProject
for a legal challenge to this?
Electoral commission is not independent anymore…. There are no safeguards protecting us from the Tories
@zackferguson
I thought it was more like
🇺🇸 should I buy a Rolex whilst I’m still a resident?
🇬🇧 should I do some extra locums to pay for my kids nursery?
@veggieequallife
The same wellbeing team that came into the doctors mess at the start of covid saying they’ve had a lot of donations but Doctors already have too much, so could they take our recliner chairs?
To top it off they won Trust awards…
(The doctors mess has mice and is abysmal)
The past 3 nights have been the busiest of my medical registrar career so far...
Thank you to Team Nightshift ❤️
@NewhamHospital
Especially to our lovely CCOT nurses
@julietb08

Your reminder that:
1.
@DominicRaab
was happy to keep the “barristers’ strikes” going indefinitely. He refused to even negotiate. It was only when he was fired that it was resolved.
2. The backlog is still 60,000 cases.
3. He has closed most of the “Nightingale Courts”.
So….. academic pay premia…
Found out today only eligible if the higher degree was completed:
- on an ACF contract
Or
- completed whilst official OOP.
If you did your Masters in your own time and worked (forgoing sleep etc)
No academic pay premia.
Thanks
@TheBMA
2016!
@doctor_oxford
A dangerous precedent has also been set, where if understaffed and a mistake happens: lose license and charge of manslaughter. On the other side, if whistleblow on staffing levels like
@drcmday
: also lose job..
@Xeon4f145d96s1
Let’s be realistic.
A rotating doctor is bottom of the food chain in an NHS hospital.
Even if it’s reported the matron will be untouchable and the rotating doctor will be viewed as disposable.
Nothing will happen other than further distress and humiliation to the doctor.
@Doctors_Vote
This is the most insane email.
Completely unbelievable.
Please do name and shame.
What really gets me is that they are “ranking” registrars on extra-contractual work.
Everyone has different circumstances and some may want the extra money,but others may have responsibilities!
@drphiliplee1
This is so important. Completely understated in medicine.
I’m so lucky that everytime that I have called with “gut feeling” ny seniors have responded and taken it seriously
This is
@docib
@BBCNews
@TheBMA
We’ll just have to keep striking until the
@BBCNews
and HMG take notice.
Clearly the fact that every hospital in England with every doctor below consultant and SAS grade is striking is not newsworthy.
@Xe4f145d16s2
This is quite concerning, particularly in how it is framed to patients. If a patient enquired the qualification, the inference of “I went to medical school” implies that they undertook a medical qualification eg MBBS or equiv.
@ewenharrison
@BBCNews
Tories have totally them to stifle the story I’m guessing. There’s definitely a clear agenda afoot. Shame on
@BBCNews
for demonstrating their lack of impartiality and bowing to Tory party pressure
@NotAdoctor0000
@LeedsHospitals
Even before the MAP scandal I have hated policies that say foundation doctors shouldn’t speak to micro…
How are foundation doctors supposed to learn?
Who do they think manages the ward patients and all the ward referrals?
How are ST1+ supposed to get to clinic/theatre?
@theveindoc
Doctors were well paid when I applied to Med school. We were told the lie at Med school that we wouldn’t have to worry about money… we would always be comfortable.
That’s not the case anymore. When you can barely break even and there’s no safety net, what choice do you have?
By far the most powerful
@TheLancet
front page I’ve ever seen
Let’s say this to ourselves repeatedly, and consider if you make pre-determined decisions or judgements in your patient’s based on the colour of their skin
If we live in a racist society, maybe we all are racist?
@ShaunLintern
I’m so pleased that you are sharing this! Shame on the Med schools that aren’t ensuring that their students will be adequately supervised during strike days.
@Jcalcolado
@RCPhysicians
You led a very strong campaign…!
I’m surprised the numbers are so low, how many Fellows are there roughly?
Pity the wider membership doesn’t get an opportunity to elect the president
@trentconsultant
Can we use one of our anon medtwitter accounts like
@Xeon4f145d96s1
to name and shame this London Trust?
Because they should be named. Appalling behaviour.
@Xe4f145d16s2
In addition GMC regulations would penalise a doctor for misrepresentation including erasure but are other HCPs not under the same standards of probity?
@theRCN
Doctors are massively disadvantaged for not being allowed to join AFC… it was because they would have to pay us more on the AFC contract.
Now we’re in a situation where a 1st year Physician Associate earns more than a junior registrar (>5 years post grad)
@OrthopaedicOz
Well he wasn’t missold was he? Because we’ve seen so many examples of PAs being afforded opportunities over doctors.
They knew. That’s what they’re told at PA school. We were in the dark.
Can’t recommend going to medical school to any bright students anymore
@greenpsyched
Because the uk training programmes provide very little training….
You’re expected to learn through passive osmosis style, and of course do exams (through self-directed learning) to benchmark the process
@ShaunLintern
@acasorguk
They’re funded by the government… so how can they be impartial?
Also there isn’t much faith in ACAS after 2016 BMA debacle…. We’re in this mess now because of poor negotiations then.
Lovely flowers sent to me by a friend for the start of my ST4
#RespIsBest
post!
Although I should be sending her flowers as she got me through interviews!
Excited to be returning to training!
@DrOKaneAgain
@RishiSunak
@TheBMA
Hahaha haha hire foreign doctors…. They don’t want to come here anymore and look at how much we make them pay just for access to the nhs (that they pay for through tax).
Good luck to that plan!
@drmattuk
@DrSarahClarke
@BBCNews
@RCPhysicians
- lack of higher speciality training posts with a workforce crisis looming - RCP aware 50% cons posts unfilled and 40% retiring in 4 years
- gaps in service provision necessitating need for locum provision
- reservation wage for locum in taking the medico-legal responsibility
@Doc_IonaCollins
One of F1s I was working with funded himself through Med school as a tube driver…. He was a bit stunned that he earned less as a f1 (and more antisocial hours )
@DrSelvarajah
@gmcuk
@DAUK_GP
@BAPIOUK
Amazing news!!!! This case has been so unsettling. My best wishes to Dr Arora who should have been commended by the GMC for trying to keep patients safe by asking for a work laptop and recognising the patient load was too great for a single GP
I cannot get my head round how many people’s lives have been saved globally by the Recovery Trial
The simplicity in the recruitment is key in synthesising the evidence base
Clinical trials need to be embedded in all standard of care practice to continually improve patient care
@YousufMed
Coolio I’m those situations as a Reg I would ask to speak to said consultant and then pass the phone over to the SHO/F1 who knows the patient better
Slept for 24 hours after an 8 day stretch (clearly old age kicking in)
Woke up to
- rota planning coordination
- academic manuscript editorial deadline
- medical student project demands
I’ve decided to take a walk instead...
@UKGastroDr
It’s not even an elephant…. I remember having this discussion with my brother… the Conservative membership won’t know why they don’t like Sunak… just that there’s something about him….
It’s the same situation whenever someone of colour joins a new hospital….
I recently had a paper accepted. As a researcher of 10+ years, I've been lucky to have a lot of work published. Through this, I've participated in lots of peer review.
Today I'd love to take you through an example of how not to do

@alisonleary1
Crumbling IT systems, not enough computers to do a functional ward round or clinics.
They’re removing Microsoft Office from my Trust because they don’t want to pay for it anymore.
They only talk about innovation.
Let’s talk basics first.
@JeremyVineOn5
@linmeitalks
@Kevin_Maguire
Amazing that
@Kevin_Maguire
gets the crux of the issue so well - thank you!
The issue is if retention is not addressed these highly qualified individuals (who did go into a caring profession) have no choice but to leave the NHS, as they can’t afford to work there
@Dr_Done_
Algorithm medicine
The way this country is heading, we’re going to have a brain drain of doctors, with the majority of care being provided by PA/AHPs for the next decade.
We’ll then start seeing the tide turn again where the country will want doctors, but for now time to leave
@Telegraph
Dear
@lizrob92
and
@Daniel_J_Martin
What you don’t know is how hard it is to take annual leave for a wedding (including your own) as a doctor.
Most acute rotas are fixed leave, you have to give your dates approx 2 months before you receive the rota. Kudos that he got leave!
