One of our indoor frozen morning projects. Modifying the old custom valve box lids to work on the new systems valve boxes. They just don't build a decent box cover so we made our own about 10 years ago and they are still awesome.
I’ve been waiting 12 months for this picture. Here’s 14 green taken exactly one year apart. This is our tree management plan in action with a new perimeter buffer planting.
Yes we did connect 10 fwy and 11 tee with short grass. This is a high traffic area so managing short grass will improve turf quality, but if you miss the green over there be ready to face a near impossible up and down over the bunker 😬
This past spring we finished the renovation of the fifth hole. This meant rebuilding the teeing ground. Here’s a look at the fifth tee/fourth green complex in 2009, 2018, and now today.

“Thank you” to the membership at Tacoma for voting YES to installing a new irrigation system. We will start sometime in late March or early April. I couldn’t be more excited. This will be a Rainbird IC system
You get what you pay for. Google Earth is free. This new aerial cost us a little $ but it is amazing. Wish I wouldn't have topdressed 10 and 11 fairway that day.
Punching greens today and tomorrow. This is the tenth straight year of punching with solid tines only. Thanks to OM246 testing we now know that this is infinitely sustainable.
After 6 months of running two control systems simultaneously, I’m finally sitting at one computer. Old computer boxed up and ready to go to a new owner. Goodbye TORO Field interface and hello Rainbird IC two wire. Dual monitor is sick.
Loving the new GPS sprayer more and more each day. Almost 8 mph and the thing is just spot on. Auto steer is obviously essential for this and that also lets me check my email 🤣
The irrigation map is now complete. Amazingly accurate, amazingly detailed and simply gorgeous. Thank you
@BrentHarvey4
for being the best in the business
This skip in our fall application shows just how effective fungicides can be. Imagine if all the fairways looked like this small area short of

green.
Removed collar dam on entire perimeter of 4 this past week. The crew is really getting efficient at this. In some areas around this green 8 inches of sand build up was removed. We’ll be scalping the green out a little to recover lost pin positions

The 12th green/16 tee complex has certainly gone through some changes in the last decade. Here is an aerial from 2009 before the sewer project, another picture taken right after in 2010 and then the last pic is a drone shot I took the other day. 🙂
It’s like trading in a Yugo for a Ferrari. This new system can really move some water as the smallest mains are 6”. All new Rainbird IC complete on hole 10.
Excited to get opened up this coming Tuesday. Greens were top dressed last week and the Embark is down so they should be as sweet as pie. The new fine turf area around the putting green is all healed up and looks like it’s been there all along.
Kyle doing an exceptional job with the face smear and now checking sand depth.....good people that take pride in their work is priceless. Our staff is our most valuable asset
Claire’s first fish on the fly where she made the cast, the hook up and then in the hand all on her own. Oh, and she’s wearing a Beaver shirt too. So proud

We released almost every oak tree, thinned most of the dense fir clusters, and cleared those that were interfering with the new irrigation system design. It’s very likely that this is the last time you see a log truck on the golf course.

Some aerials I took today for
@TroyMartinGolf
in order to update our yardage books. New 4th green 5th tee complex, 5 & 8 green, 9 green, 10 & 17. It’s pretty easy to see where the greens have been expanded. That will take a few seasons to go away
Fantastic picture by one of my loggers while up in a tree. Love how 16 green looks from this viewpoint. BTW That’s a plywood bridge fronting it for crossing the fairway with big machines.
@Super__Link
Nitrogen became a secondary nutrient to me once I discovered feeding with Carbon. I applied less than 2 lbs of N in 2017 and never had a problem with health or color. For me feeding with carbon has been the most significant discovery of my career
On this day in 1913, Harry Vardon and Ted ray played a 36 hole exhibition match against Jim Barnes and Robert Johnston, over the playing field at Tacoma Country and Golf Club
Took the drone up today for the first time in a long while. Trying to get some images to show the performance of the new irrigation system during peak summer stress. Here’s a couple pics of the 4th hole, one from Aug 20th 2019 with the old system and one from today.

Very exciting day for me. Today we got the first visit from
@LandscapesGolf
as we prepare to install our new irrigation system. First step is figuring out where to store all the HDPE pipe
@BrentHarvey4
Diving into 18 green. This will be one of the most extensive collar dam removal projects yet. The team has done enough of this type of work that they are very confident in their approach. The new green shape will be bold and fitting for a classic finishing hole.
Updating the hole location chart. It’s been at least 10 years since we’ve done this. You can see the new green shapes are cool, but they also offer additional and more interesting hole locations
It takes about 4 growing seasons for these projects to fully grow in but I like how things are looking so far. Here’s an update on

……….how it was…….and how it is.
We’re now mowing the green expansions at 0.110”. For the most part they are looking good. Some areas will take a while to mature but overall I’m pleased with the progress. Here’s a few pics of 15 before and after
Most of these trees should probably be destroyed but what’s even more obvious is shouldn’t all these tees be simply mowed together with a fairway mower?

Taking advantage of the new sprinkler head spacing and expanding a few of the greens just a little. Here's a look at

. One of my favorite greens now after the main expansion project a few years ago.
The new GPS sprayers are absolutely amazing. On Autosteer it's easy to take a sip of coffee ......which was essential this morning since we are having historic cold temps right now.
@Sam_Schmidt_APT
Punching green surrounds today. 10” Solid tines on the greens yesterday with the Wiedenmann and now today with hollow tines. This is definitely the best aerifier I’ve ever seen.
