Being a doctor is weird as you are held to infinitely high standards by everyone but also expected to play down that your job is high responsibility & intellectually tiring at times & have to act like any old rando could do your easy job so people don't think you're "superior"
This argument is so tired.
Yes, doctors make errors too despite all their experience and education.
So why would you think having someone with a FRACTION of training doing the same job would have better outcomes?!
I swear no one is using their brains.
@c3convertase
What about all the errors doctors make?
Look at the scandals, coverups, complaints data, collated litigation, & inquiry reports in the UK. Read Francis and read Ockenden. Listen to bereaved parents lied to by consultants.
Maybe every should see a professor.
Statistically Iโm going to marry another doctor so I look forward to telling everyone to write โDr and Drโ instead of this โMr and Mrsโ nonsense.
EQUALITY, B*TCH.
A patientโs family member today said Iโm the best doctor theyโve dealt with and really appreciated the time I spent with them. And another one of the nurses say they all love working with me as Iโm so approachable, and that the patients all tell them they adore me too.
So WHY
This is a great example of why even cases that seem "simple" should be seen by a qualified doctor. He may not have survived a protocol-driven, non-medical practitioner. Medicine doesn't always fit pretty little flow charts.
Glad this lady's husband is ok!
@AmarHujan
My GP saw my husband when his โasthmaโ was bad - sent him straight to A&E ended up having 4 stents fitted for 80% blocked artery. Condition also known as โwidow makerโ Couldnโt be more grateful. Husbands โasthmaโ now disappeared!!
On a seperate note that's bothered me for years, I've noticed whenever people say they "chose" not to study medicine they're actually just assuming they would have got in rather than got in and turned it down. It is NOT easy to get accepted in med school lol
It's honestly terrifying hearing UK PAs talk about pattern recognition in their first years of work.
It's so important to go in with broad differentials based on fundamentals rather than getting led down a narrow path, particularly as a more junior clinician.
I'm PGY5 and a
Iโm sorry but I will always REFUSE to request bloods or scans for someone who can come up with a plan but is not allowed to order investigations if I havenโt personally been involved with the patientโs care.
Itโs my medical license. A concept they donโt understand.
I've also been bullied by midwives when I was a med student.
Now I'm terrified of them and my next rotation is O&G.
And I DEFINITELY see a big difference with how they treat male vs female doctors... ๐ข
Current medical student - told to โf offโ by midwives and stop stealing cases when all they wanted to do was sit there and watch a vaginal delivery ๐คฏ
Why are PAs always going on about how they're trained in the "medical model like doctors" when real medical school and training has followed the biopsychosocial model for DECADES, lol?!
@drnikkistamp
@emirates
Once I had airline staff very pointedly and repeatedly use Ms instead of the Dr on my boarding pass when I was in Business Class, but made a HUGE fuss calling a man with Dr listed on his, though he was in Economy Class. :/ So definitely just outright sexism.
did I get told for years Iโd be better in non clinical roles so I didnโt have to deal with people? That I wasnโt suited to medicine??!!
Seems it was indeed just discrimination after I disclosed mental health issues.
It's actually interesting that there's a huge reduction in availability of locum roles in Australia this year (even for the more limited first part of academic year) due to how many doctors have come over from the UK.
It's like a tidal wave lol
Iโm guessing most people are gone since this is no longer even called Twitter, but Iโve reactivated to let you know Iโve been accepted into GP training starting next year and even got a spot in Sydney so I can continue my treatment to improve my personal health.
Thanks so much
Reminds me when I had a Pt in ED triaged as just jaw hurting, prob a tooth was the thought. Turns out to be a major cardiac event when I reviewed.
If experienced triage nurses can miss things like this (yes, drs do too), what hope does someone with only 2 years training have?
The problem with suggesting PAs are suited to seeing โminor illnessโ in GP is
Who gets to decide / deem these patients illnesses as minor? Is it the receptionists booking? (๐ฅด)
Differentiating the sick from the not sick patients in GP is the biggest challenge of the job.
I got fooled by him again. He told me he was leaving her. I'm such a f*ckwit. And now I'm almost 35 and want kids but no one will want me. Literally everyone my age I know is married and most with kids.
Actually might have to drop out of GP training because of the huge pay cut once I do clinic-based training.
My rent would be the majority of my income &there is a rental crisis so nowhere cheaper.
More reasons no one from my gen of drs are choosing GP
@RACGPPresident
@RACGP
All the PA stuff has honestly encouraged me to very clearly introduce myself as a doctor rather than โpart of the medical teamโ like I used to due to attitudes by other staff about junior doctors.
Iโm quite worried Iโm too curvy to wear scrubs in the ED atm :/ no, this isnโt a photo to get people to perve, but will this be seen as unprofessional on the floor??!!
Should I return for baggy ones???
Theyโre so damn comfy though and was able to order Tall ones ๐๐
Ok, screw my ex. Planning a date with someone Iโve met before, like, have mutual friends (including my brother and SIL) and wants to settle down.
Wish me luck lol
How are they different to what a doctor brings to an MDT then, apart from being less trained?
I also have a first degree in science and then did graduate medicine, which is already considered accelerated and intensive as only 4 years instead of 5 to 6...
@medicalmodelbri
@parthaskar
Maybe not. But you cannot deny their value to multidisciplinary practice. The PAs are educated. Have a first degree in a science plus a two year intensive course in medicine. Show some respect!
Hello Twitter/X, long time no see!
Iโve been going through job applications and interviews for next year so decided to become less online during it lolol.
And I got offered a job to so I can finish off my last RMO rotations to FINALLY start GP clinic training in 2025! ๐๐
Deranged.
I only stepped up to a Reg role in the second half of this year and it is SO different and such a higher level of responsibility.
Absolutely deranged to think MAPs and such are equivalent.
Holy dunning Kruger โฆ
@vileslug
Yeah when i talked about mine when i was younger I was jumped on those more focused on my apparently internalised fatphobia than my potentially DEADLY ILLNESS. My BMI was 15 ffs. (Yes, I know the issues with BMI but it was not good.)
The attitude seems to be SO prevalent in the

@9NewsSyd
Your timeline is an embarrassing cesspit of racism, misogyny and science denial, none of which point to great intellectual prowess.
So itโs pretty damn hilarious you think youโre in any way qualified to have a worthwhile opinion on this topic.
Oh Dunning-Krugerโฆ
Horrifying that if this dude is being โleftโ to lead arrests that means heโs taking on a role he shouldnโt be and letting people think heโs a doctor.
The FYI 1 should be leading an arrest before him before the more senior doctors arrive.
@paulcallan843
@ENT_UK
Can men please stop making false equivalencies about female doctors? I have ONLY seen men on here do it, not female doctors. Stop it.
The Emergency Departments are full of people presenting with mild to moderate SIDE EFFECTS of ozempic.
Do people not read the side effect information before taking a new medication??!!
Ozempic is very well known in medicine to have some crappy side effects.
I remember in my first year of medical school a guy in my cohort cringing and freaking out whenever someone mentioned periods. He asked us not to as it was โgrossโ.
He is now a doctor. My god I hope he got over it but Iโm doubtful.
And this is why I will be vocal whether itโs
I only have 90 days of rotation I have to redo due to what I missed and then this degree is DONE. Please just let me finish, uni. Iโve passed every exam & OSCE.
Half my problems are rooted in money anyway. Med school while poor is very difficult. And most my peers donโt get it.
Iโฆumโฆ didnโt expect a photo of my butt in scrubs to be so popular; itโs not exactly a flattering photo and Iโm very covered up!! ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐ณ๐ณ
@drvyom
I left emergency in tears the other day after my GP sent me in. Because of my mental health history they donโt take serious physical things seriously either and Iโm even a doctor. Was HUMILIATING.
I would honestly rather just die than experience their loathing and scorn again.
Because of my disability it took me an extra 1.5 years to complete medical school.
I also did an extended internship. Yet I got here in the end.
So go to effing med school and work like I did or STAY IN YOUR DAMN LANE.
Do you know how hard it is to qualify and be a
โgrossโ for you or not.
Period stigma and shaming is why women have suffered for so long. Pain to do with it not being taken seriously. Misconceptions and myths abounding.
@drstip
I dunno, maybe. Seems to be common with the Brits on here too. At least the Americans apparently are allowed to be proud of their achievements! ๐๐ญ

@focusfronting
I am autistic and have severe anxiety but this is not "structure", this is ABUSE. You are one of those disgusting men who weaponise therapy and disability speak to make the things you think sound ok.
Iโm sorry but anaesthetists are still the nicest and non-hierarchical doctors to deal with.
My current reg is doing his last few weeks of medicine ward training towards his ICU training and he is so lovely and chill and ALREADY TRAINED AS AN ANAESTHETIST
All you people playing doctor by intentionally misleading patients with your job titles are pathetic. Go to medical school if you want to play doctor.
I went through medical school on THE DISABILITY PENSION, as they initially thought Iโd never be able to work again.
My parents, brother, his partner and I are all watching a Christmas Law and Order: SVU marathon. Itโs not actually related to Christmas but we all enjoy the show lol.
Curries for dinner with extended fam.
When I'm listening to a pregnant woman's belly the placental blood flow goes "whooooshhh whooooshhhh" and the foetal heartbeat goes "WHOMP WHOMP WHOMP WHOMP".
That's the best I can put it in writing! ๐คฃ
The consultant earlier said from working with me that I should really consider a career in emergency medicine ๐ฅน๐ฅน๐ฅน๐ฅน that he can imagine me doing it
Is one of the nicest things someone has said to me at work!
And he just reiterated ๐ฅน๐ฅน๐ฅน
Other doctors freak out if I tell them how Iโm really feeling when in a low.
Tired of the โjust reach outโ when itโs not really meant. (Not you, Erin! In general.)

I want to ask one thing
What are you doing to ensure it doesn't happen to someone else?
Ask someone how they *really* are, go out of your way. Maybe someone you haven't talked to for a while.
Otherwise posting about it means nothing
The midwives on my current placement have been lovely so far and made me eat the final Krispy Kreme today (even after they'd given me one earlier hahaha ๐)
Usually my baby brother (well, heโs 29 lol) wears the Santa hat to give out presents but heโs not here this year so I was made to don the hat!! ๐ซ๐
plan.
Maybe I should avoid ever working in the UK, whole system sounds like itโs going down the drain.
Hope they enjoy having heaps of PAs but no doctorsโฆ
The one good thing that has come out of my breakup is that Iโm slowly rebuilding friendships, including people I hadnโt seen in years, and theyโve welcomed me back with open arms. ๐ฅบ๐ฅบ
Iโm very lucky for that.
It's why we undergo so many years of training, but I find the rest of the MDT doesn't always understand this sadly. It's easy to think after enough years in the hospital "hey, I can almost do what the doctors do, they see the same things over and over" but it doesn't work like
Everyone please pray to whatever higher power you choose for me?
As tomorrow Iโll be running the weekly MDT of the entire ward as usual. But the Consultant canโt attend this week so Iโll be making the plans for everyone, including what leave if any they can have over Christmas
People are booking in with me for Telehealth oh goshhhhh nervous!!
(Yes, i am covered by medical indemnity, I was very careful and researched and took out extra indemnity that covers Telehealth)
Omg I accidentally ended up rather Scottish, with red hair (though hard to see in the poor lighting, tartan pj shorts and a t shirt with thistles on it ๐๐๐
(I actually do have Scottish heritage though way back hahaha ๐)
(And yes, I look tired AF. I'm going to bed lol)
