Got quite abruptly told the free tea and coffee on offer today in the postgrad Center was NOT for docs on training days. (I was eagerly walking in it’s direction) The free coffee was for the executive’s meeting The exec meeting was re our impending strike for pay & conditions

On my first ever shift as a Dr I worked a night, covering 120 patients across 6 wards on my own: - I witnessed 1 death, verified 2 -I assessed a man who dropped level of consciousness and sent him for an urgent CT head query bleed -I managed an acute GI bleed

I think medicine is great. I think most doctors will agree that when we complain about the job, it’s not the medicine part…it’s not the patients. It’s the exhausting, unrelenting system we are working in. It’s being underpaid and stretched. It’s the hoops we have to jump.

The problem with suggesting PAs are suited to seeing “minor illness” in GP is Who gets to decide / deem these patients illnesses as minor? Is it the receptionists booking? (🥴) Differentiating the sick from the not sick patients in GP is the biggest challenge of the job.

Doctors pay in the UK is poor. The amount of privileged people in medicine only proves this further to me. Medicine does not help social mobility. The poor pay actively pushes doctors who don’t have family money out and keeps those who don’t need to do it for the money in.

@jessdoe2000 Doctors walk into the hospital able to prescribe and order scans. We have done the longest and most insensitive academic training. We are left as the first point of call overnight and OOH for over 100 patients. Yes, our pay should reflect this.

11 qualified doctors applying for every 1 space in training. Yet we have a workforce crisis in every department of the nhs. We have a shortage of radiology consultants yet no expansion of training posts. Honestly what is the hope of being a junior doctor in today’s nhs.

We met an Israeli guy in Thailand while travelling Asia as a 4 in 2017. He joined us for a motorbike tour to a canyon and chilled with us for a bit. 5 years later I’m travelling Peru with the same group of girls and we bump into him while on a 4 day trek in the Andes 🏔

If the trust cared about our learning we would have a regular, helpful and structured teaching program that didn’t consist of pharmacists telling us again and again to fill in VTE prophylaxis forms …while we stuff some lunch down before rushing back to the ward
