This seems to me to be a key opportunity for the sector to not shy away from addressing our problems with sexual misconduct. Easy wins include 1) Open day sessions covering student safety including sexual misconduct 2) Staff not having sex with students.

The term ‘mental health’ seems to be being used much more widely. And we seem to be encouraging and incentivising the badging of everyday feelings that way, which is by no means always wise.

Seems to me that it contributes to international feedback that we care about civilians being killed by Israeli military. Presumably there will eventually be some sort of ceasefire and the quicker we get there the fewer deaths.
Free speech plan to tackle 'silencing' views on university campus Is there going to be an expert to address sexual violence at universities too? To my mind that seems far more of a problem than ‘threats’ to free speech.

To my knowledge there is very little interest in academia in closing down debate. On the contrary one of the strengths of the sector is that there are such dialogues.

If students are reluctant to come forward for help (whether due to ‘sex work’ , drug taking or mental health issues) because they are concerned that we will judge them, how is that helpful? We need to ensure that our staff are well placed to help.

Sorry to hear this - I think that such management approaches will fundamentally damage staff/management relationships well beyond this dispute. I understand concerns about the dispute, but not the contempt that some senior managers appear to view staff with.
What is it about academic culture that we are quite so tolerant of sexual misconduct? Universities are ran by academics and we don’t seem to prioritise the safety and well being of students or staff.

This is not unusual when ideology trumps the financial arguments. It looks like a further attempt to dismantle the NHS moving medics either to the private sector or abroad with insurance based systems etc.

Happy to sign up to that - call me old fashioned but imagine the joys of focussing upon the research and teaching and letting our students know that is the focus too.
Any university open days which do not include a session on student safety and sexual violence may result in reductions in application rates. It could be an institution in denial. Providing support to those reporting sexual violence may improve retention levels.

This reminds me of men in nursing and medicine who seem quite so offended that some women prefer a woman clinician. We surely need to stay patient centred.

One further problem with ‘unconscious bias’ training seems to be a potential for a cosy collusion with a myth that institutional and overt racism are not the substantive such problems in ‘liberal’ institutions of learning.
