Best way to retain staff?
Treat them like they matter- not just with words- show it with actions - look after your staff ; be supportive, respectful & compassionate & listen to them, whatever their grade or position
I find it concerning that the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care is not aware of the facts surrounding nurses pay. How many
#NRNs
start on £31k? Those that do don’t work in the NHS
We have accepted the recommendations of the independent NHS Pay Review Body to give nurses a fair pay rise of at least £1,400 this year. This means a newly qualified nurse will typically earn over £31,000 a year
Found this extremely useful, mainly because it’s rare we use peripheral cannula’s in community nursing!
Love a good visualisation! Anyone got any other good visuals to help?

My first week as a newly qualified community nurse. I’m exhausted, amazed and so happy! Here’s to a restful weekend before much more learning 🩺
#communitynurse
#nqn
Just a reminder that it doesn’t matter if you start your nursing career at whatever age or you qualify and change paths to a different area of nursing or 10 years down the line, you’re still succeeding!! It’s your nursing journey 🤩
#RCNNRN
its Friday the 13th today so lets look at superstitions in nursing, I know of opening the window if someone passes away, and NEVER saying the Q word, which ones have you heard off/seen?
#RCNNRN
@PUNCJack
I don’t think any nurses actually *want* to strike. We want to go to work in safe conditions and take care of our patients. It’s all we have ever wanted to do
Welcome to

a place to get support and information summed up nicely by our very own TikTok sensation
@DawnMarr20

@RCNStudents
we can't wait to hear what you all want to talk about - please do let us know
(TikToks on the subject welcome but not compulsory!)
Please be kind to your HCA's. They are a wrath of knowledge for you & your patients when you can't be with them due to other tasks. I've said it when I myself was a HCA, and now as a nurse I've had HCA's say it to me. Some nurses weren't hca's before they were a nurse & it shows.
Please let's dispel the myth that if you don't work in a ward, you suddenly become "de-skilled" because, frankly, that's rubbish! In reality, my experience is moving into the community in
@NHSGGC_HHS
is I've actually become "hyper skilled" in that area

After listening to our membership, we are excited to announce our name change to

Remember, you’ll now need to tag

in posts you want us to see.
1/3 So, if you’re a NQN, I’m gonna hedge a bet you’re feeling it? maybe a bit overwhelmed? Gone from feeling like a confident 3rd year to a small fish in a very big pond wondering if u know enough or worrying about learning all the new skills u need? Well,
Take a deep breath....
Our Preceptees wear the

I'm going to spend my time on the account today following as many STN & NRN's as i can. I found this page right before i qualified but I know it would have helped me to have had it sooner. Im glad to have had the community as a NRN. We'd appreciate it if you could share.
#RCNNRN
Walking out of my night shift to see all different groups of people gathered, some just there to show their support to nurses was overwhelming and made me feel emotional! If you haven’t already show your support!!

I’m really interested in the perceptions that people have about entering the community as an NRN.
I want to know if anyone here is considering or chose community nursing for their first post. Or if you’re waiting - why?

How many are interested in the research side of nursing? It’s a fascinating area dont you think?
What would be the one research project that would draw you in??
Here are a series of webinars which could be of interest.

Something I’ve heard over my training is that nursing “isn’t the same as it used to be” & it should go back to the way it was ie not a degree qualification...
This has always slightly triggered me as I feel I’ve worked hard to get my degree.
Any1 else ?
Thoughts?

Student nurses will soon be interviewing for their positions as Newly Registered Nurses. Do you have any advice for overcoming interview nerves?
#RCNNRN
Reflecting on my 1st wk as a NQN.
I felt like I didn’t know anything, like I was in the way. I felt like I was starting all over again.
Nurses told me it takes at least 6-12 months to settle in.
Does anyone else feel like this?
How long does it take to settle in ?

What an achievement…
How soon is too soon to go for promotion after you register? Is there a right time?
Have you got a timeline of where you’d like to be?

Yesterday a colleague on a training day said “you are the youngest matron in North Middlesex Hospital”. I thought about this and it made me feel so proud of myself. People who are proud of themselves tend to have a great passion for life. I wish to be a role model for young girls
My first tip & one I wish I'd followed is you don't start your first newly registered role as a fully-formed nurse. That mindset is unsustainable & sets you up for failure. So, don't try & operate at the same level as those who've been nursing for years

: How do you really feel about this?
A little note - you pave your own career path, you can do and be anything you want to be! Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t go into that area of practice or you will lose skills… it’s your career, you define it 🤍

A fabulous idea: we should be talking about what to do “when” not “if” we make a mistake. Nurses aren’t infallible, we’re human.
Also, how do we proactively deal with the emotional fallout of making mistakes? New registrants can be crippled by the fear of making mistakes

Today I’m asking with the current government situation, how can we increase morale? Newly qualified nurses are joining a profession in which retention rates are constantly in the spotlight. What can we do to help students & NRNs when they’re feeling disheartened?
With evidence suggesting that things are getting more stressful than ever this is interesting to think about. Are you looking after yourself enough to keep going?

What advice would u give to ur student self?
I think I’d say it’s ok to not know where u want to go yet, just make the most of every opportunity & it will become clear later. Don’t compare ur journey with anyone else- every nurse has different skills & this is so important

3/3 No ones expecting you to wake up tomorrow knowing everything you didn’t know yesterday, the wonderful part of nursing is that it’s lifelong learning & even the most experienced nurses have days they have to ask & look things up
You’re doing great and You Got This

Being out of supernumerary has honestly been good but omg it’s terrifying!! I have found myself missing being a student but I’m thankful for the massive support my ward gives me, but wow the transition from student to NRN is quite something
#RCNNRN
So for the first time last week I called in sick and honestly the guilt I felt was horrific! I felt awful letting them down but I physically couldn’t go in! I feel this however also stems from uni, they drilled it into your head that you’ll be down on hours and behind 😭
#RCNNRN
2/3 The reason we know this is because you’re not alone. We’ve all felt like this, and it’s ok.
Make sure you’ve got people to talk to, that you can get constructive feedback & support from, and go easy on yourself
It's often easy to forget nursing support workers are there, they are autonomous and highly skilled professionals who perform an essential role in the field. Thank you on this

I’ve came across this a few times…
I’m interested to hear the nursing Twitter verse and their thoughts on it?
Do u agree? Are grades not everything?
What do you think?

How lovely is this?
Looks like a wonderful placement area.
