@mahad_minhas Medicine subi, new patient admitted: middle-aged Black woman with severe thigh pain. Thigh extremely tender on exam. I asked for imaging. Supervising resident saw her, said she's hysterical, probably high on cocaine. Discharged...admitted again. Turned out it was a thigh abscess.

I just found out I passed the Bar Exam! Now let's abolish it. It takes just one one look at our biased judiciary, a Congress that doesn't pass bills, insane election lawsuits today, or any other ailing aspect of our legal system to realize we are selecting for the wrong people.

New study @NatureBiotech @ReedBeall @akesselheim @AmeetSarpatwari identifies new way to track pharma company "product hopping." I.e., extending drug exclusivity via minor changes with minimal clinical benefit --> impedes generic entry and raises prices

@alvie_barr Hey all! I'm an MD/JD graduating in May, with a hope to prove that law is key to every social determinant ( #SDOH ). If law is life's rules, then we could fashion various rules to deal with SDOH. Follow me for tweets about law surrounding obesity, opioids, tobacco, race, & more.

Hey all, The next case on race or racism is Milliken v. Bradley (1974). This Supreme Court case covers structural racism in education and what courts will (or won't) do about it. Thread. 1/

Good news for readers of @shailinthomas 's tweets. Humor can help us cope, according to a light-hearted piece in @JAMA_current . A single joke can send "ripples of fun...across the country." So keep tweeting @shailinthomas , and keep laughing everyone. 😂

Significant updates on my and @DrSinhaEsq 's article on immunity for the Sackler family. Yes, the Supreme Court case that might immunize them from answering in tort law for the opioid crisis. After we posted the article, something *weird* happened: (1/3)

@askdrfatima and I offer a 10-point plan to study and address the intersection of systemic racism and obesity. Important: We need more research here – on obesity and racism, not just obesity and race. (14/x)

As a new president transitions into the role, here is what I'll be looking for: 1. Do we directly advance public health and health equity? 2. Do we reverse the trend on climate change? 3. Do we foster a more equal society? 4. Do we ensure people have enough to survive & thrive?

Accountability matters. Accountability is public health. Don't sell it for money. (Not to mention a small amount split among thousands of cities and states, paid over 10 years.) Bad deal 🙅‍♂️

David Sackler said on Tuesday that he and his family, the owners of Purdue Pharma, would withdraw a $4.5 billion pledge unless they are granted broad legal immunity. The money would go to communities that have been devastated by the opioid epidemic.

New in @JAMA_current : @stephenwpatrick et al. find across 47 states that opioid addiction/use disorder about doubled in newborns and pregnant moms from 2010 to 2017. Opioid crisis remains ripe for federal legislation even if overshadowed by #COVID19 .

🚨 NEW in @NEJM : @MichaelRUlrich exposes the unscientific and harmful nature of gender-affirming-care bans, arguing they intrude on medicine and are "strategic targeting of a marginalized group for political gain." And courts should not uphold such laws

It’s sad that Chief Justice Gants didn’t get to see the fruits of this report. In any event, it’s time to recognize the urgency of structural and institutional racism in our criminal system. After seeing it take a woman and her baby, I’ll never view it in the same way again. 6/6
